I visited Oro Line Michi no Eki for a stamp rally event, and also went on a hot spring tour from Kodaira to Teshio. This area is close by, but surprisingly not visited often. It always feels like you can go anytime. It was a good opportunity, so I finally visited a place I had been curious about for a long time, the Bekochichi Factory. It's located about 20km from Route 232 in Teshio town, Hokkaido. The place is surrounded by fields, making you wonder if it's really there. After passing through the Oshinai Tunnel, you'll see some banners along the road. The shop opened in 2011 and is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the summer, and only on Saturdays and Sundays during the winter. The shop looked small from the outside, so I didn't have high expectations, but inside, they had a good selection of products. I was surprised by the variety of sliced cheese they had. They had plain, black pepper, chili pepper, soy sauce, basil, parsley, sansho, and sesame flavors. We chose soy sauce. I was delighted to learn that they use soy sauce produced in Motomachi. The cheese was moist and soft, much more than regular sliced cheese. They also had mozzarella, plain and miso-flavored. I've been a fan of the combination of miso and cheese ever since I tried Needs' miso cheese. They also had Kachocavallo, "Teshio" semi-hard cheese, and "Tatsuneushi" hard cheese on display. My husband is picky about cheese, so we only bought a little. We also tried the cheese tofu, which you can eat with wasabi soy sauce or fruit sauce. It had a slightly tart flavor. The kimchi sauce was easy to eat, not too spicy. They also have a salt-flavored soft serve that was delicious. We tried the plain flavor, which was not too sweet and had a gelato-like texture. I'd love to come back and try the salt flavor next time. Thank you, Bekochichi Factory, for the delicious food!
