I had high expectations for Ooyama and chose the Yamakasa Course, which included a variety of exquisite dishes such as vinegared offal and horse meat, finishing off with a delicious offal hot pot. Everything was incredibly tasty. The name "Bettei" suggests a quiet and serene atmosphere, and I was looking forward to enjoying a hearty offal hot pot in a relaxed setting. However, the surrounding tables were filled with what seemed like celebratory gatherings, and there were many loud guests, making it hard to enjoy my meal in peace, which was disappointing. The interior had an elegant design, so it felt like a missed opportunity.

In October 2024, when I came to Hakata, I decided to try motsunabe since I hadn’t eaten it much before. I searched for places near where I was staying and found this one on the second floor of a building. The interior was really nice, with partitions that made it feel calm and relaxing. The all-you-can-drink menu didn’t mention soft drinks, but they had beer, sour cocktails, highballs, and local umeshu, which was quite good. I started with a draft beer and chose the Dontaku course for 3,500 yen with an all-you-can-drink option for 2,500 yen. The appetizers included vinegared dish, roast beef, and vinegared mentaiko offal. The flavor was nice, and I added some balsamic vinegar to taste. This was delicious and easy to eat, but I forgot to take a photo. I ordered an Amaou sour, which was sweet and very easy to drink, and then enjoyed the beautifully presented appetizers. While dining, the beef thigh tempura arrived next. I added some herbs to the dipping sauce and it was delicious. The鍋 was pre-cooked and ready to eat once warmed up, and wow, it was tasty! I could possibly order more, so I asked for a piece of horse sushi. It was beautifully presented with caviar and sea urchin. I also ordered a Hyuganatsu sour, and for the sushi, I could choose between tataki or lean meat. The staff recommended the lean meat, so I went with that. It was really delicious, priced at 638 yen. The offal in the鍋 and the vegetables had a wonderful miso flavor. For the final dish, I ordered additional champon noodles for 319 yen since it wasn’t included in the course. I also ordered a Dekopon sour. While enjoying the鍋, I added the noodles. But of course, I ended up feeling quite full! If I had more people with me, I could have ordered extra; the vegetable set would have been good too. Since I was alone, I ordered rice for 275 yen, and it was so delicious that I felt incredibly stuffed. After two hours, with the last call for all-you-can-drink thirty minutes before the end, I had to throw in the towel. Thank you for the meal, it cost 7,232 yen in total.

We visited with our spouse and our friends, making a group of four. Since we had made a reservation for the Dontaku course on Tabelog, everything went smoothly. The staff recommended the miso flavor, but the four of us agreed that motu nabe (offal hot pot) is traditionally made with soy sauce. (laughs) When the appetizers were served, we were pleased with both the taste and the beautiful presentation; the stylish dishes also lifted our spirits. Finally, it was time for the main dish: the motu nabe. It was prepared in the kitchen and brought to our table ready to eat as soon as we lit the flame. The offal was tender and delicious, and the thinly sliced burdock root added a wonderful accent that made it even better. Choosing the soy sauce flavor was definitely the right decision! Everything from the appetizers to the main course was elegantly presented. I look forward to coming back to try the miso flavor next time.

The seating feels somewhat like a semi-private room, giving off a slightly upscale atmosphere, but the drinks and food are not overly expensive. The motsunabe was just as delicious as I expected, and I finished it all! For the final dish, there were choices of rice or a rice porridge, but the only difference seemed to be whether it included an egg or not. Personally, I thought the soup of the motsunabe was rich enough, so I opted for plain rice instead of putting in an egg. The staff was kind enough to offer me the soy sauce ice cream as a complimentary treat! It had a sweet and salty flavor and was really good. Thank you for the meal!

Located in Fukuoka City's Chuo Ward at 2-9-5 Daimyo, this restaurant is about a 10-minute walk from Nishitetsu "Fukuoka Tenjin Station" and an 8-minute walk from the subway "Akasaka Station." The establishment will open in December 2023, operated by "LAV Co., Ltd.," which has 22 locations across Japan under the name "Hakata Motsunabe Ooyama." It is reported to have achieved sales of 4.7 billion yen, making it number one in sales in Fukuoka Prefecture. The opening capital for this "Tenjin Bettei" is an astonishing 360 million yen, prompting questions about the return on investment. The exterior is located on the second floor of a mixed-use building housing "Gyoza-ya Nino Ni" and "Mandarake." First-time visitors may wonder where the entrance is; the large wooden door on the left side, just before the entrance to "Gyoza-ya Nino Ni," is the way in. Once you open the door, a staircase awaits. At the top of the stairs, you'll find a reception area resembling a hotel front desk, where staff will guide you inside. The venue has a modern ambiance that radiates luxury, making one question if it's truly a "motsunabe restaurant." There's a welcome drink counter, as well as couple seats and private rooms. The menu offers everything from course meals featuring meat kaiseki cuisine to a la carte items, with prices set higher than typical "motsunabe" restaurants. We tried the a la carte option, including "motsunabe," which is a signature miso flavor! It features a blend of several types of miso, including Kyushu and Saikyo miso. There are also "soy sauce" and "water-boiled" options, so choose according to your preference. For a perfect finish, "chanpon" noodles are highly recommended, allowing you to enjoy the rich broth until the last bite. I visited again because the first time was good, but this time the service was really disappointing. They got my order wrong, the container for the chili powder they brought was empty, and I couldn't understand what they were saying. It was just so unfortunate. Are they university students doing the serving? If you're promoting the "Tenjin Bettei," you really need to improve the service to meet expectations.

During my trip to Fukuoka, I was eager to try motsunabe, so I visited this place! Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the motsunabe and only have pictures of the horse sashimi platter and the appetizers, so I'm sorry about that... The horse sashimi was incredibly delicious, so much so that I could have eaten another plate! For the motsunabe, you can choose the flavor, and I ordered the miso flavor. Instead of being rich in soy sauce, it had a somewhat milky richness and a slightly sweet taste. I didn't really taste much saltiness, and while preferences may vary, I personally didn't enjoy it as much, which was a bit disappointing...

The atmosphere of the restaurant with the motsunabe (beef tripe hot pot) is luxurious and calming, which is very nice. Many of the staff seem to be student part-timers, and their service could use a bit more polish. The motsunabe, with its vegetables, tofu, and miso seasoning, was very delicious. However, the champon noodle dish was just barely edible, which was a disappointment for the ending. If it were just the motsunabe, it would rank quite high in tastiness.

The entrance stairs and the entire interior are luxurious and stylish, overflowing with a sense of high quality. I ordered a 6,000 yen meat kaiseki and added a serving of horse sashimi as well. Since I went with a group of big eaters, I ended up overeating to the point of being too full (sweat). The recommended miso flavored oden was a super rich broth that rivaled even the thickest tonkotsu ramen. I wonder how they make this broth... The pot is pre-cooked, so it doesn't need to be simmered and can be enjoyed immediately after it’s served. The restaurant has a traditional Japanese-style private room with no time limit, allowing for a relaxed dining experience. Since it can be used for various occasions, I've found a great place that I will visit frequently!☆彡

I visited a renowned restaurant famous for its motsunabe (beef tripe hot pot). We started with ika mentaiko (spicy cod roe with squid), followed by simmered heart, sagari (flank steak), and roasted beef, each dish bringing forth rich flavors to the table. The meat sushi was made with smoked meat, leaving a striking impression with its unique flavor. The deliciousness of the meat paired with the smoky aroma was perfectly balanced, and once tasted, it's sure to enchant you. The tripe had a plump texture and a refreshing taste that harmonized wonderfully. One bite would flood your mouth with the umami of the tripe, making it hard to stop eating. Finally, the motsunabe arrived, filled with tripe, tofu, and garlic chives. It was seasoned with miso and was absolutely exquisite. Eating it with the finishing noodles left me in awe of its deliciousness.

I recently visited a new hotel located next to Mandarake, directly across from the Ritz-Carlton. I tried the miso flavor, which reminded me of Makanaka-san's style. It was delicious, but I got so full that I couldn't eat the noodle course at the end. There are various menu options, and the place has a nice upscale atmosphere, which I really liked!

When you think of Hakata, you think of motsunabe! I went to the famous "Hakata Motsunabe Ooyama" in Tenjin Bettei. The exterior was stylish, and it remained chic all the way until we entered our private room. (I forgot to take pictures, but) as soon as you open the outer door, you are greeted by a wide staircase leading up to the second floor. The seating was plentiful, with both regular and round tables, all quite stylish. However, I felt it was more of a casual dining spot. Most of the staff were young, and they seemed like part-time workers! Now, for our meal, we ordered the meat kaiseki course, which had 8 dishes: 7 kinds of appetizers, fish cake, horse meat sushi, vinegar dish, motsunabe, lemon sorbet, champon as a finale, and mousse. There was a lot to eat! Haha! Everything was delicious, but I ended up getting quite full before reaching the motsunabe. I asked for a smaller portion of the champon noodles... It was my first time trying motsunabe, and it was incredibly delicious—so tender and juicy with just the right amount of fat! I learned that I probably need to skip lunch on days when I plan to have motsunabe. Haha!

A premium "Motsunabe Ooyama" has opened in Tenjin, and I visited the day after the opening. The approach to the entrance feels like that of a high-end club. Inside, there is a waiting bar and luxurious booth seating, giving the place a very glamorous vibe. The staff brings the ingredients and explains them to you, adding to the unique premium experience that you can only find here, even though Ooyama is now enjoyed all over the country.

This was actually my first time trying miso motsunabe. I've eaten it outside of Hakata before, but it had a strong odor. However, the one here had clean offal, no unpleasant smell, and was truly delicious.

The entrance may be hard to find, but it is a very stylish space. We enjoyed an 8,000 yen course, and if you're still hungry, you can order more meat for an additional fee. The restroom is also very clean. Since it was my wife's birthday, they generously presented us with a cute fruit plate during dessert. Thank you very much! I would definitely recommend this place for a date.

The atmosphere, taste, and cost performance were all excellent! I was especially surprised that they had horse sashimi! For someone from outside the prefecture, being able to enjoy multiple Kyushu specialties like hot pot with offal and horse sashimi is truly appreciated.
