It was a small, cozy, handmade-feel shop. I came here for the first time based on my son's recommendation, so I'm not sure how it usually is, but there was a man running the place alone. The meat sauce was rich in flavor and I enjoyed it until the last bite. For an extra 100 yen, I got a mini salad, cup of soup, and a small side dish, which was a great deal and delicious. The small dish with tofu topped with olive oil and salted kelp inspired me to try making it at home. I plan on going back again.

TALON is a small restaurant located a bit away from the center of Sumikawa. The name "Nishioka Co-op" comes from the fact that there used to be a co-op in the center of Sumikawa, so a new co-op near Nishioka was named "Nishioka Co-op" to avoid confusion. The restaurant does not have a parking lot, so some creativity is needed to find a parking spot. Inside, the restaurant is not very big, but they have taken proper measures with partitions. The menu consists of pasta and some food items, with no lunch sets available. I ordered the "Shrimp Tomato Cream Pasta" which came with salad and soup. The pasta was beautifully presented with a generous amount of shrimp in an orange-colored tomato cream sauce. The salad had a tangy dressing, and the onion soup had a unique flavor. The pasta itself was made with homemade fresh pasta, with a firm texture and good bite. The sauce and shrimp complemented each other well, although the acidity of the tomato sauce was a bit strong. Overall, it was a satisfying meal with good portion size.

On a certain weekday, I visited a pasta restaurant in Sumikawa 6-jo, Minami-ku, which I had always been curious about. The lack of parking was a drawback, but the interior of the restaurant was surprisingly spacious, with a large seating capacity including 3 counter seats and 4 tables. The menu was stylishly displayed with table numbers. English narration accompanied by Western music played in the background. I was intrigued by a "special" meat sauce lunch plate, which I ordered with an additional topping of "cutlet". The pasta, made fresh in-house, had a soft yet slightly chewy texture with a good amount of sauce mixed in. The meat sauce was flavorful with chunks of minced meat and bacon, giving it a unique and slightly spicy taste. The cutlet had a crispy coating and a tender, juicy meat inside. The chicken was also lightly breaded and fried, providing a nice contrast to the cutlet. I also enjoyed a refreshing salad with boiled shrimp. Overall, I appreciated the effort put into creating the impactful meat sauce served with fresh pasta. Personally, I feel there could be more menu options that better complement the fresh pasta. I also felt that a soup option, other than water, would have been a nice addition. Thank you for the meal.

A new restaurant had opened without me realizing it. I had some errands in Sumikawa, so I decided to stop by. A sign for pasta was displayed outside. The opening hours seemed to be from 11:30 onwards. Upon entering, I found the interior to be dimly lit and stylish. I was greeted and told to choose any seat I liked. I sat at a table and looked through the menu. The restaurant's specialty seemed to be meat sauce, so I ordered a small portion of meat sauce with a salad and a drink. There were options for toppings like soft-boiled egg and cutlet. I also added some anchovy potato fries that caught my eye on the menu. First, I was served with oolong tea. Then came the salad. It had a beautiful presentation with Italian dressing over crispy lettuce, paprika, and onions. I refreshed my throat with the oolong tea as it was hot. When the potato fries arrived, I tried one while it was still hot. It paired well with a lemon sour drink, which I found addictive. On a hot day like that, I would like to have potato fries with lemon sour or beer. Finally, the main dish of meat sauce pasta arrived. The slightly flat noodles were topped with meat sauce. I dug in and found the noodles to be chewy. The meat sauce was not the typical tomato-based one but more like a demi-glace with a hint of tomato. I usually prefer tomato-based meat sauce, but this one was also delicious. The small portion was just right for a light lunch for a woman. Ordering just the small pasta is budget-friendly. Although I came for the pasta, I ended up really enjoying the potato fries. Cream-based pasta sauce would probably go well with the noodles here, I thought. If I visit again, I would like to try the cream-based pasta and the chicken dish that caught my eye.
