Lunch at Toge no oyakodon. Located along the national highway, it's a popular spot for those traveling between Onuma and Hakodate, so everyone is driving fast. It's a bit hard to find parking, but I managed to park and go inside. It's a restaurant made from a shipping container, a 40-foot high cube. When painted, it looks quite stylish. The owner trained at Kansai-style ryotei and opened this place. I ordered the oyakodon. The Datte young chicken was tender and juicy, with a delicious dashi flavor. The generous owner also gave me some karaage, chicken ham, and a boiled egg as a bonus. I had a chance to chat with him a bit. He said he priced the dish at 1000 yen because he wanted to provide satisfying food. Due to the influence of a famous hamburger place in Hakodate, many people get karaage to go, but he wants everyone to try the delicious oyakodon here. Thank you for the filling meal.

Last year, a shipping container suddenly appeared in the neighborhood of Nanairo Nanae. A chef who used to work in Japanese cuisine is now serving oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) as their main dishes. The service from the owner is great, and they let you sample various items. The prices are reasonable, with oyakodon for 1000 yen and karaage for 700 yen, but they are quite delicious. This was my second time purchasing from them.

Located facing Route 5 (northbound) with parking space for a few cars. Be cautious of the elevation difference between the premises and the road, the depth of the parking space, and high-speed passing vehicles when entering or exiting. They offer two types of oyakodon: regular and garlic with leeks, as well as pork belly rice bowl and chawanmushi. I ordered the regular oyakodon (¥1,000) and chawanmushi (¥600). The oyakodon is prepared after ordering and served in less than 5 minutes. I took it home to reheat. The container is separated, with rice on the bottom and chicken and egg on top, allowing you to adjust the amount of broth to your liking. The chicken is tender, the egg is fluffy, and the broth is plentiful. The flavor is rich with Hokkaido corn and salt, not too salty or sweet, just right. While oyakodon may seem similar at family restaurants, soba shops, or supermarket eateries, this one stood out. The crab stick-filled thick-style rolled omelette was also delicious. I hope this unique specialty store in southern Hokkaido continues to thrive. They will start selling salt-fried chicken from February after the New Year.
