This is my first visit to Toko Store Shin-Sakae Store, which is closing down. I visited the first floor and bought the following items:
- Northman Salt Lemon (1 piece) for 180 yen
- Yama Oyaji (3 pieces) for 145 yen
They are having a clearance sale and the shelves looked a bit empty but there were still a few items left. I decided to try the Northman Salt Lemon, which had a refreshing taste with a hint of salt and lemon juice. It was perfect for summer and very delicious. I also bought the Yama Oyaji, which had a nice buttery aroma and a good balance of thickness. It was very tasty. I found out that the Northman Salt Lemon is priced at 180 yen, which is the same as usual. They will be having a "Thank You Clearance Sale" on the last day (September 21st). Since I wanted more, I also bought the Yama Oyaji. It seems that the Shin-Kotoni Yonban-doori Store will also be closing on October 19th. Thank you for the delicious food!

On a certain weekday, I decided to have lunch and stumbled upon Senshu-an, a well-known confectionery store located within the Seikoh Store in Higashi-Maeda, Kiyotoda Ward. The store is located at the corner and has a typical size with a wide variety of individual items, which is convenient for someone like me. From the menu that day, I picked a few items that caught my eye, as I had already bought various items from other shops.
"Northman Sakura (170 yen)": When I took a bite of this seasonal limited edition Northman from Senshu-an, I found the classic pie crust filled with a white bean paste base that had a light salty taste.
"Sakura Mochi (162 yen)": This mochi had a lighter color compared to average ones, with a subtle salty flavor from the sakura leaf. The sweet red bean paste inside had a moderately sweet and smooth texture.
"Yama Oyaji's Souvenir (170 yen)": I was intrigued by the appearance of this snack and decided to buy it. The white chocolate base was more like a senbei than a cookie, with a hard texture. Inside the white chocolate were dried fruits, walnuts, and pistachios, making it clear that there was a big difference between senbei and cookies.
I realized that despite the abundance of confectionery shops originating from Hokkaido, there are still many successful ones operating in supermarkets, which shows their true capabilities. Thank you for the meal.

After shopping at Toko Store Maesaki, I bought desserts at Chishuian inside the store! "Northman (Haskap)" (including tax 170 yen) - it's not as intensely sweet and sour as a certain famous three-star confectionery, but it has a nice sweet and sour Haskap flavor. "Baumkuchen" (including tax 189 yen) - moist and sweet with a strong taste of eggs and butter. I usually like to peel off each layer of Baumkuchen to eat, but this one was so moist that I couldn't peel it off neatly, which was a shame (laughs). There are still many sweets I haven't tried, so I would like to purchase them at another store again. Thank you, Maesaki Store♪

Located on the 1st floor of the Higashi-Ko Store Maesakae branch, at the corner of the intersection of Takino Koen-dori and Hitsujigaoka-dori.
▼About the Shop▼
Founded in 1860, Chishuian Seika was established in Sapporo in 1921 after branching off from the main branch in Hakodate and subsequently from Otaru. Chishuian Seika has since spread to Obihiro and is now known as Rokkatei. Chishuian Seika has 30 stores mainly in Sapporo, Otaru, and Muroran.
▼Menu▼
They offer a variety of Japanese and Western sweets, cakes, including popular items like Yama-Oyaji and Northman.
▼What I Ate▼
▽Northman 162 yen▽ (Oct 2016)
A slightly smaller pastry with a moist and slightly sweet pastry filled with a subtly sweet red bean paste. A unique and delicious Japanese-Western confection that is somewhat addictive.
▽Northman Pumpkin 162 yen▽ (Oct 2016)
A new product released in 2014, similar to the regular Northman but with a pumpkin-flavored filling. Made with Hokkaido pumpkin and white bean paste, it has a mild sweetness and a pleasant taste. The pumpkin flavor is subtle and very easy to eat.
▼Impressions▼ (Oct 2016)
Established in 1921 in Sapporo, Chishuian Seika is a well-known confectionery chain with a history originating from Hakodate. They offer a variety of Japanese and Western sweets, ice cream, and more. The Maesakae branch is located on the 1st floor of the Higashi-Ko Store Maesakae branch. I purchased the new Northman with a changed package and found it to be just as delicious as before. The moist pastry and subtly sweet red bean paste make for a unique and charming combination. Despite the change in packaging, the deliciousness remains the same. I look forward to trying something different from Chishuian Seika next time.

After shopping at the Higashikou Store Maesakae branch in June 2015, I visited here. It was my first time buying Senkyu-an sweets on my own. The Maesakae branch used to have Sazae in it before, but it seems to have disappeared at some point. There was a note to watch out for the step at the entrance, but I accidentally caught my cart on it. Everyone, please be careful. The castella cookies with cute characters look delightful. They are crispy cookies with a castella flavor. Although they break easily, I prefer the harder cookies. I tried the pumpkin paste flavor of the Norseman♪, which was supposed to be moderately sweet but turned out to be very sweet. Perhaps the pumpkin itself is sweet. The pie crust was moist and didn't crumble easily. The naming of the "Oyaji no Okimiyage" was intense, but the appearance was elegant, with red bean paste, chocolate, and dried fruits in a manju dough, and I really enjoyed it. The names of Senkyu-an's products are interesting. Thank you for the feast♪
