However, I tried something new today with the tempura soba, which turned out to be the common tempura soba with tempura bits. I was expecting something like crispy shrimp tempura, but it was actually tempura bits on top of the soba. I chose soba to save on calories, so I didn't really need the tempura bits (laughs). Nonetheless, the soba was delicious as usual. Unfortunately, there was no complimentary coffee this time (tears). Also, it was amusing to see that the water on the table was in a thermos! Today, I visited this restaurant near Horonobe Station for the first time since summer. When I arrived at 11:50, there were still seats available, but as soon as the noon siren sounded, customers started coming in one after another. In no time, the restaurant was full! I stopped by Aiizu Shokudo on my way back from Wakkanai. It's located in Horonobe town. There is a parking lot in front and on the side of the restaurant. It seems to be run by a couple. There are counter seats, tables, and a raised tatami seating area. I ordered the "large portion fried rice" (900 yen). It was really a large portion, and the price was very reasonable! I sat at the counter where only three people can sit, and I ordered the soy sauce Katsu ramen. I really like the Katsu ramen here. It's not just any ramen from a ramen specialty shop, it's the ramen from this local diner. The broth is rich and the Katsu is freshly fried. The Katsu is made in-house and doesn't fall apart even after soaking in the soup for a long time. The ramen only comes with green onions and bamboo shoots, which is quite simple but nice. Of course, the price is a bit high, with the Katsu ramen costing 1050 yen. The curry rice is 750 yen, while the Katsu curry is 1050 yen. But in a place like this, where you never know when customers will come, it's important to keep the business running. If this local diner were to disappear, it would be a big loss for the town. I hope this place continues to thrive and operate for a long time. I will definitely visit again in the future.

The soy sauce ramen was light and delicious. The fried rice was moist and just how I like it. I want to go back again!

I had lunch at one of the few diners in Horonobe Town. This was my second visit but my first time posting a review. There are only two places in town where you can have lunch, and the prices are a bit on the high side. I ordered the soy sauce ramen & mini fried rice set menu, which cost 950 yen. The soy sauce ramen was better than the ramen at the beach house (lol)! It tasted similar to Asahikawa ramen. The mini fried rice had a rich flavor and was surprisingly generous in portion. What made me happy was that they had a proper coffee server and you could enjoy freshly ground coffee for free. This year, there has been an unusual amount of heavy snow in northern Hokkaido, and the locals have been busy shoveling snow every day. The snow piled up on the roofs and the icicles were quite impressive.

The menu is extensive, offering ramen, soba, udon, set meals, curry, rice bowls, and even set menus. Despite it being October, there was a sign for cold noodles inside. The atmosphere is quiet, with a man in a white coat taking orders and the wife working in the kitchen. My colleague had the large portion of fried rice, ramen and curry set, while I had the pork cutlet bowl. My colleague kept saying "Delicious, delicious" while eating the fried rice. The pork cutlet bowl was well-cooked and the cutlet was quite big. We all enjoyed our meal together.

The Katsu was crispy with a thin crust, and the soup was flavorful with plenty of umami. It's a standard ramen, but delicious. The rice was a bit clumpy, not freshly cooked. The owner brought the tray of food to me, but didn't say "Enjoy your meal" or anything. But that's quite common in this area. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. When I said "Thank you for the meal," he replied with "Thank you." That's rare in this area. I left feeling satisfied and had a pleasant experience. Overall, it seems like this restaurant could become a staple for lunch in the northern region.
