It was crowded everywhere because of the fireworks day. I managed to get a seat at a restaurant near the hotel where I stayed. I tried "zangi" for the first time and it had a rich flavor, very delicious. When I ordered a salt lemon sour, it came in a blue tropical color. The staff was kind and friendly. It was just right for a casual drink. Thank you for the meal.

Solo trip to Hakodate. At lunch, I had sushi at Hakobiba near the station and noticed a place nearby where I could have a drink, so I decided to check it out in the evening. The restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere and was easy for solo diners to enter. I sat at the counter, but there were a few other solo diners as well. I wasn't planning on drinking much, so I opted for individual drinks instead of all-you-can-drink. I ordered a beer and a gin and soda. For food, I had some appetizers like meat miso on green peppers, fried chicken skin, and pork wrapped in shiso leaves. I enjoyed everything, but since I was dining alone, I felt like I was going to burst from eating so much (laughs). Although I was satisfied, I thought it would be nice if they offered half-size portions so I could try more dishes. They only allowed a minimum of two skewers, so I couldn't try as many different types as I wanted. Overall, I was very satisfied and would love to visit again when I return. On the fourth day of my long vacation, I moved to Hakodate. While waiting for the hotel pickup, I chose this shop in a nearby alley from Hakodate Station. I ordered Hakodate Kombu Highball, Sunset Highball, and Goryo Japanese sake. The menu has a wide variety, so you can enjoy various ways of drinking.

I visited the Yuyake Highball near the station. Instead of a complimentary dish, they offered a single item from the speed menu, which was a thoughtful gesture. I ordered the Hokkaido Kombu Highball, Iburi Gakko Potato Salad, and Hokkaido Colorful Buttered Potatoes. The Kombu in the Highball was a new touch, adding a refreshing aroma. I usually prefer a regular Highball. The Gakko Salad had a delicious taste with the presence of Iburi Gakko. The Buttered Potatoes came with a salty seasoning, allowing me to enjoy various flavors. Although I ordered a la carte this time, it seems that even solo customers can enjoy all-you-can-drink service, which is much appreciated.

The second place I visited was here. I had been here before, so I was somewhat familiar with it. When I told the staff, they urged me to sit wherever I liked, so I chose a seat at the counter. They asked me if I wanted to have a 90-minute all-you-can-drink option or order drinks individually... I decided to go for the all-you-can-drink option. The price was around 1500 yen? I probably wouldn't stay for more than an hour, but with three glasses of draft beer (Sapporo Classic), I would break even. So, I'll have that much to drink. For snacks, I ordered chili chicken, green peppers with seasoned minced meat, and a mini salad with squid legs. In the end, the total came to around 2860 yen, which was quite reasonable. I had four glasses of draft beer, a highball with kelp shochu, and a whiskey highball. Personally, the green peppers with seasoned minced meat was a hit! The fresh green peppers were delicious, and adding the seasoned minced meat enhanced the flavor, making it a really tasty snack. The kelp shochu highball was interesting, with a taste reminiscent of kelp itself. It felt like drinking a broth. I could also taste the alcohol content quite well. It had that unique Hokkaido touch. This time, I got a great deal on drinks. Or rather, I drank too much haha. I'll definitely want to come back here again. Thank you for the meal.

Stayed at a hotel connected to the Hakodate Station Yokocho in July 2022. Went back to the room once but wasn't satisfied with the drinks, so went out again. No seating charge or appetizers. Found a familiar-looking casual pub. Ordered a highball for 450 yen without opting for all-you-can-drink. The food was nothing special, with no distinct Hakodate-style dishes. Ordered the safe option of salt-boiled peanuts for 320 yen. They were freshly boiled and warm, but slightly overcooked and soft. Overall, just a regular izakaya that you wouldn't go out of your way for, but convenient when needed. Thank you for the meal! (^ω^)

I used this restaurant while waiting for a reservation at another place. When I arrived, I was told to "please wait a moment" and waited at the entrance for about 15 minutes. The staff in general seemed inexperienced in their operations. They mentioned there were no appetizers, so I think the cost performance was average.

This was my first visit to the restaurant in Hakobiva. Many shops were closed due to the pandemic, creating a lonely atmosphere. I tried cabbage, potato chips, and lamb skewers. Ordering through the touch panel was convenient for subsequent visits.

I got off at Hakodate Station and had some time, so I decided to explore HakoBiba, a retro-themed restaurant that caught my interest. It reminded me of the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. I marked a couple of places to revisit in the evening. When it comes to Hakodate, seafood such as squid is popular, but last night I had oden, this morning I had sashimi, and tonight I felt like having yakitori and ochazuke, so I chose this restaurant. They have both counter and table seats, and it seems to be the largest seating area in HakoBiba. The menu is diverse, suitable for solo travelers as well as groups. I ordered pork skewers (with sauce), chicken skewers (salt), salted cabbage, ochazuke, beer, and oolong highball, which came to about 3000 yen. If you're not specifically looking for seafood (especially fresh squid), this place is more suitable for those looking to have a drink and snack. Hakodate gets a lot of snow in winter and is known for strong winds, so it's convenient for those staying near the station.

Located inside Hakodate Station's Hakobiba, it's convenient. Despite the name "Sunset Highball," they also serve draft beer. For 2500 yen, you can enjoy draft beer, sashimi, and grilled scallops. The beer is Sapporo Black Label, and the grilled scallops come in a shell with sliced onions on top, perfectly seasoned and delicious.

I visited "Hokkaido Sakaba Yuyake Highball" on this day. The restaurant is located inside "Hakobiba," very close to Hakodate Station. I arrived after 7 pm and there were 1 group of customers before me and 2 groups after me. I sat at the counter and ordered a draft beer without looking at the menu. The draft beer I ordered was "Sapporo Classic" and I also ordered the "Iburi Gakko cream cheese" which arrived soon after. I already knew that Iburi Gakko and cream cheese go well together, but it was also delicious with honey that the staff brought. I then ordered the "Shichinohe Town King Shiitake Skewers" and another Classic beer. The King Shiitake skewers were rich in flavor and delicious! They went well with the beer! I spent about an hour enjoying my drink alone before heading back to the hotel.

I went to a restaurant in Hakodate for a drink after dinner. They had a unique menu with a touch screen for ordering drinks. I decided to try the Hakodate Kombu Highball. It had a strong kombu flavor, which I enjoyed. The snacks included salted cabbage, squid salted guts, and Matsumae pickles. I would love to visit again when the weather is warmer to try more drinks. I had a drink while waiting for the train at a new facility called Hakobiba near Hakodate Station. It was a very cold day, but since it was my first time in Hokkaido in a while, I had a glass of Sapporo Classic beer. For a snack, I had Hokkaido beef tripe with vinegar. The Hokkaido beef tripe is served with a refreshing ponzu sauce. It's a convenient place to adjust your time since it's right by the station. Next time, I want to try a highball or zangi.

I thought this place specialized in highballs so I came all the way here. I visited during non-peak hours to avoid crowds, so there were no other customers. The menu is really limited, just some basic snacks. The classic highball for 500 yen is quite pricey, and the whiskey used is Dewar's? The lemon and lime highballs are made with syrup, which is disappointing. Maybe the beer, sake, or shochu would be a better choice, but for highballs, you're better off drinking at a family restaurant. Maybe half of the 500 yen is just for the location? (laughs)

This is my third visit to Hakodate. I made a reservation using gotoEat. The restaurant is a casual place with a yakitori-like atmosphere. I tried the famous Hokkaido dishes, Zangi (fried chicken) and Genghis Khan teppanyaki, as well as buttered potatoes. The portions were generous and the flavors were great. I was surprised when the bill was almost a thousand yen higher than my own calculation. It didn't seem like the kind of place that would overcharge. Disappointing!!!

I'm in Hakodate. I moved to the station area because of JR. I've been eating sweet desserts, so I felt like having something salty. I was wandering around Hakobiba and found a newly opened place. Let's have a drink! The sign says they're open from 11:30 to 22:00, but it seems they take a break during the day due to the pandemic. I'll have a highball and chicken skin with green onions and pork skewers! It's a bit pricey, but no cover charge is fine. I quickly got my highball and chicken skin with green onions. Ah, separate worlds are great. There's a sense of freedom and you can go to whatever kind of place you like. The chicken skin with green onions is crispy and the ponzu sauce is tasty. It's quite filling and makes for a good side dish. The pork skewers were a bit overcooked, the fat seems to have melted away, but it's just right for replenishing salt. I had them with mustard and nanban sauce. I'll order another drink and get some more salt in before I go. Thank you for the meal!

Well, it's been a while since my last post, but I came to Hakodate! It's been about 20 years since my last visit, so the area around the station has changed a lot, but there are also things that haven't changed, so I'm looking forward to exploring. After checking into the hotel and dropping off my luggage, I headed to an izakaya that is open from lunchtime in a facility called "Hakobiba" in front of Hakodate Station. The building was a bit complex, and I got a little lost, but I finally arrived. There were counter seats and a few table seats. The place wasn't too crowded yet, so I happily took a seat at the counter. I ordered... Sapporo Classic (draft beer) x 2 glasses Vinegar Motsu Teppanyaki Genghis Khan The total came to 2,260 yen (tax included). Sapporo Classic is a staple in Hokkaido, isn't it? It's nice to be able to drink it at regular eateries. You only place your order face-to-face at the beginning, and then you order using a tablet. You can also settle the bill this way. I ordered the vinegar motsu as a quick appetizer, and it was reasonably priced at 390 yen. The flavor was good with a moderate acidity (ponzu?), and it was delicious. And when you come to Hokkaido, one of the things you want to eat is Genghis Khan. Of course, it's nice to cook it in a big pot, but I also thought this teppanyaki style was good. It had a unique smell, but it didn't bother me, so I enjoyed it. Overall, it was a good start. I might use this place again during my trip. Thank you for the meal.

Hakodate Station commercial facility Hakobiba 1st floor is a street next to the station created with the motif of Showa era streets. It offers seafood bowls, Genghis Khan barbecue, and oden stalls. It seems to be aimed at overseas tourists. There is also a food stall village and gourmet street nearby. My daughter visited the Otamagai Yokocho at the end of last year during a solo trip and had a great time, so she wants to go again (with me). However, considering my husband's dislike of walking, we chose to stay at a hotel directly connected to this facility. It was still early in the evening, and we were happy to find places open early. We started with a toast with a sunset highball, which had haskap and frozen orange in it (sweet!). Even though we weren't very hungry, we enjoyed beef tendon stew and special Zangi as our first dish. The appetizer of smoked herring potato salad and fresh salted fish were also delicious and plentiful. Since my husband was feeling tired and wanted to go to bed early after soaking in the hot spring, we did a sake tasting. With no other customers in the store, we cheerfully asked the young manager to pour us some sake. We had a fun sake tasting session while listening to the explanations. My husband, who hadn't had sake in a while, seemed to be in a good mood and slightly tipsy. The bill came out to around 7000 yen. We bought some drinks from the convenience store in the facility after taking a bath and said goodnight. We then went our separate ways. My daughter and I exchanged a knowing smile (laughs). We looked at the souvenir shop at the station before venturing into Otamagai Yokocho for a little adventure. Inside the beautiful store, there was a modest master who seemed to have just opened. The menu was handed to me on a tablet on the wall with a slight delay. It's quite high-tech here~ The tablet menu here is surprisingly easy to read. Hakodate Sunset Highball with Haskap and frozen orange original (= ´∀´)ﾉ 凵゛ Delicious... To start off, I ordered "squid salted guts and potato salad." It's very Hakodate-like and goes well with sake. The potato salad has pickled radish in it, and the salted guts are gently salty. The pork skewers have a firm texture, giving a satisfying feeling of eating meat. The sweet and salty sticky sauce makes you want to sprinkle some shichimi pepper. The slightly high prices might be due to the location. There is no background music, so you can quietly enjoy your drink.

I will return to Sapporo by JR from Hakodate Station and decided to visit "Hakobiba," which opened in December 2019. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, most of the shops are closed. It is past 2 pm and I have about 40 minutes until departure, so I decided to have a drink at "Hokkaido Sakaba Highball Sakaba." The place is quiet and deserted, but this particular shop is brightly lit and seems lively. I sat at a good spot at the counter and ordered a Sapporo Classic draft beer for 490 yen. I also ordered a potato salad with salted squid for 390 yen. It wasn't bad, but it might be a matter of personal preference. Since I didn't have much time before departure, I quickly ordered boiled peanuts with salt for 320 yen. The portion size and quality of the peanuts were okay, and the saltiness was just right as a snack. There were various types of empty sake bottles lined up on the counter, including some unusual ones not listed on the menu. I thought about trying a Ponzu, but it was time to leave. The total bill was 1,300 yen, which seemed reasonable. It could add up quickly if you keep ordering, but it's convenient for a quick drink in a tourist area. It would be nice if they offered a tab system. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
