I had always wanted to visit this restaurant. It has been awarded one Michelin star for many years☆ There were rumors that it was difficult to make a reservation, so I thought it might not be possible, but I managed to make a reservation for my desired time with a phone call just two days before. It is located about a 3-minute walk from Nakanoshima Station. It is not facing a main street, and the location is not very crowded, so its popularity must be a testament to its quality. The restaurant has 8 counter seats and some table seats, and it seems to be run by a couple. We started with some appetizers and toasted with beer. We ordered dishes one by one ☆ When looking at the menu photos on Tabelog, the prices were listed, but currently, the prices were not written, so I was a bit hesitant to order some dishes.
- Sashimi platter with 3 types of fish: tuna, sea bream, and cockle. The sea bream was moist and had a good texture, the tuna was small but tasty, and the cockle had a strong taste of the sea, leaving a somewhat strong shellfish smell.
- Grilled blowfish shirako with soy sauce. It was delicious! It was soft and melted in the mouth.
- Anago Yanagawa: eel cooked with eggs and burdock. It had a gentle flavor, and the eel was quite delicious.
- Fried scallop: crispy fried with a crunchy texture. The scallop was a bit small and firm, the taste was good but somewhat disappointing.
- Mackerel heshiko: the taste was stronger than expected. It was a bit too salty for my liking.
- Duck and green onion rice bowl: the duck had a unique texture, and as you eat more, it becomes more enjoyable. The green onions had a good texture and taste, and when eaten with the gently seasoned rice, it was delicious.
That was all we had that day. The service was a bit lacking, as they did not bring the dishes in the order we requested, and we had to wait quite a bit for some dishes. Also, they did not allow photography, which was a bit disappointing. The bill came out to be 21,700 yen, which was quite expensive. The prices for drinks were listed on the menu, with bottled beer at 600 yen each and sake at 600 yen and 800 yen. Considering the total cost, the average price per dish was around 3,000 yen. The fact that the restaurant is run by just a couple should mean that they are saving on labor costs. The location is not ideal, and the overhead costs should be relatively low. The quality of the ingredients was good but not exceptional, and the portion sizes were not very large. With all these factors, the high price seemed a bit unjustified. Add to that the lackluster service, and it seems like there won't be a next time. It was disappointing as I had high expectations for this place.
