On the morning of my fourth day in Kitakyushu, I visited a newly opened restaurant that specializes in nuka-zuke (pickled vegetables in rice bran). I arrived right at opening time and ordered the mackerel nuka-zuke, but unfortunately, it was out of stock. Instead, I ended up trying the chicken drumstick nuka-zuke, which was quite delicious. Next time, I plan to try the mackerel, and the time after that, I'll go for the sardines.

Hirame (flounder) seafood bowl for 1300 yen and a chicken wing nuka-daki set meal for 1000 yen. There's a rumor that a second branch of Asano's main store has opened in Kyomachi, so I came to check it out. And indeed, it exists! I've already tried the Hirame seafood bowl at the main store, so I decided to go for the chicken wing nuka-daki this time. My friend, who doesn't like nuka-daki, opted for the Hirame seafood bowl instead. The chicken wing nuka-daki set meal comes with five wings, which is a generous portion. At first glance, the dish looks white and a bit unappetizing, but when I tasted it, it was as mild as it looked. It has a very unique flavor, which is not to my liking at all. Personally, I don’t think it pairs well with rice either. At this point, the large number of chicken wings felt more like a curse than a blessing. The small side dish of crab stick and corn also didn’t seem to match well. If someone is daring enough, they might want to give it a try. By the way, the Hirame seafood bowl was delicious! I’m only rating the chicken wing nuka-daki. If it were sardines, I might have left it uneaten, but that's just a matter of personal preference. Suica is accepted for payments.

I visited the Kyomachi branch, which is presumably the second location of Mizukoro Yano. I haven't been to the main branch yet, but I've heard great things about it and have been wanting to go someday. As for the Kyomachi branch, it has both counter and table seating and is new and clean (which is to be expected, of course! Haha). The young staff members are quite friendly. I was torn between the flatfish seafood bowl and the marinated mackerel set meal, but I decided on the mackerel. After all, blue fish is good for your health. The price was 1,100 yen. The marinated dish was prepared without any chemical seasonings, giving it a gentle flavor. It felt a bit watery, but I guess that's how it usually is. They also had a marinated mackerel dish. It seems like a perfect place for a healthy lunch. I definitely want to visit the main branch too! Thank you for the meal, and I’ll be back! They accept PayPay. P.S. I just checked the reviews for the main branch… the flatfish seafood bowl seems to be their signature dish. I have to try it!

The mackerel has a light fish flavor, while the sardine is stronger in nuka-daki flavor. There's a slight acidity, so if that's not your thing, don't worry—there's also a nuka-pickled breakfast option! For lunch, you can enjoy the flounder seafood rice bowl. I’ll be back at night for some drinks with fermented food. Definitely a win for the healthy breakfast! ♪♪♪
