It's been a while since we came to Ichiban Boshi as a couple! The food was delicious and we had a great time.

After returning to Tokyo from a half-month stay in Sapporo, a magnitude 7 earthquake hit Hokkaido in the middle of the night. I had just avoided being there, having delayed my return due to the influence of Typhoon 21. I hesitated to post this, but decided to do so with a message of support. Every year, at least once, I visit Sapporo. Since my wife's parents' house is relatively close to this restaurant, we often visit for our final dinner. It had been a while since my last visit, so I decided to go back. The atmosphere of the restaurant was still elegant, despite its somewhat rundown appearance in a remote location. The addition of new decorations and a livelier atmosphere gave me a good impression. I sat in the same private area as before, which provided a sense of privacy and comfort. I ordered various dishes with a beer in hand. Each dish was simple in presentation but meticulously prepared and delicious. The restaurant has been gaining a steady stream of loyal customers and new visitors since relocating a few years ago. The quality of the food justified this success. I couldn't resist ordering the Ramen Salad, which was unique compared to other restaurants in Sapporo. It was more like a cold noodle salad dish rather than just mixing vegetables with ramen. The staff was efficient and pleasant, unlike the lazy staff you might find at other izakayas. This restaurant is truly top-notch in terms of food, ambiance, and service, standing out in Sapporo's dining scene. I will definitely make it a point to visit this restaurant every year in Sapporo. I accompany my wife on her hometown visits and we visit this place once a year, sometimes twice. As I have become more accustomed to the taste of this restaurant, I can't help but notice that the menu is somewhat limited. I understand that with personal ownership, the chef is often limited to just the owner. However, I'm not criticizing the lack of creativity in the menu. It's just that there are limitations to what can be prepared, and in that sense, it can't compete with chain restaurants. As I become more familiar, I realize that there is not much variation in the flavors. The menu often reflects the taste preferences of the chef. Does this lead to a certain level of monotony...? It's not a major issue, but something that has been on my mind lately. Oh my, to think that there is a restaurant like this in the outskirts of Sapporo, close to the city center and near the foot of Moiwa Mountain! To put it bluntly, this place is so good that it could thrive in Susukino, Odori, or even in front of Sapporo Station. In my nearly 20 years of coming to Sapporo, I have never encountered a restaurant that serves such high-quality dishes. I can't mention the name of other restaurants, but this place is far superior to those with double the customer spending around Nishi Ichijo. It's a top-ranking restaurant in Sapporo without a doubt! We went as a group of three and the bill came to just over 9000 yen! We ate to our heart's content, yet it only cost around 3000 yen per person. It's surprisingly affordable. Despite the affordability, the quality of the dishes is top-notch! The pasta for the finale is better than what specialty stores offer. There's really nothing to complain about... the couple who seem to run the place must be doing a great job. However, during peak hours, do they hire part-time staff? The floor space is decent for a personal business. With just one chef and one staff member on the floor, can they handle the rush during busy times? The restaurant opens at 5 pm as it's an izakaya. Even on weekends, it starts to get crowded after 7 pm, so I recommend going before that if you plan to visit. We ordered a total of seven dishes, including those not shown in the photos, and all of them were perfect, with a completion rate of 100%! For me, four and a half stars is almost a perfect score, so there's really nothing to complain about. The lower rating for service is due to the aforementioned concern about the slowness in serving the dishes during busy times. Even this time, I felt a bit impatient as the customers increased. As for the sake and drinks, I was impressed by the selection of Japanese sake, but due to the limited quantity, I have to deduct points. Still...! To think that there's a restaurant like this in this location. It's near my wife's parents' place, so I'll be coming to eat here every time we visit. I wish I could retire soon and live near my wife's parents' place because of this restaurant.

I have been going to this restaurant since it was an old establishment. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. It's an izakaya, but they have a wide variety of menu items such as ramen, pasta, and ankake yakisoba. Even if you go for a meal, you will be fully satisfied. They also offer takeout, so you can feel at ease stopping by after work. Located in a residential area, the closing time is a bit early, but I have stayed from opening to closing before (laughs). There was a time when I made a reservation on a weekend and only counter seats were available due to a party. The counter seats were all occupied by women at that time. Many families also come here, and it is a beloved izakaya by the locals.

I visited a cozy izakaya near the animal hospital my dog goes to, which I always found intriguing. It's a house-style izakaya where you have to take off your shoes at the entrance. The kitchen is separated by glass walls, so noise and smells don't reach the dining area. They have counter seats, sunken kotatsu tables, and even a tatami room in the back. The place is elegantly decorated, creating a nice atmosphere. We started with beer and looked at the menu, which had colorful decorations that didn't quite match the ambiance of the place. It was hard to read and understand, so I asked for recommendations but didn't get a clear answer. The sashimi of the day was tuna, salmon, and octopus, with the octopus being a bit thin. The grilled dishes included pork, chicken, skin, and gizzards, all of which tasted overcooked and overly salty. The chicken wing dumplings were delicious, with a generous portion and perfect grilling. The grilled squid was large and served with mayonnaise and chili pepper, but the squid was a bit dry. Despite the mixed experience, the menu was extensive, making it a good spot for a cozy meal in the area.
