Visited for lunch in October 2018, exploring a new area. The restaurant caught my eye with its appealing photo of the Oyako Donburi (chicken and egg rice bowl). There’s something about the way half-cooked eggs look, especially the contrast of the yolk that is tempting. Personally, I prefer the type where the yolk is placed on top. It's more about appearance than flavor for me. Laughing, I think enjoying with all five senses is important, right? The "Ultimate Oyako Donburi Set" is priced at ¥1,300, but I find the name a bit over the top. I understand the intention from the restaurant and those who developed the idea, but for the staff, it can be somewhat of a hassle. Playful dish names can spark conversations with customers, while grandiose ones may serve as conversation starters but also attract backlash, which is only natural. According to the restaurant's promotional text, the dish features "Tsukuba chicken," particularly the rare "torotori" cuts, grilled over charcoal, using "Ryuu no Tamago" eggs, and rice from "Aizuwakamatsu" that received a special A rating. The rich chicken broth used in their famous "mizutaki" and a secret stock complete the dish. What is "torotori"? It's a cut from the shoulder of the chicken. Shoulder meat? The variety of cuts has become more detailed compared to the past. This increases rarity and highlights distinctive features, which is important. The oyako donburi was packed with torotori, making it filling and visually appealing. However, as a business lunch, ¥1,300 for oyako donburi is a bit high in terms of cost-performance. The service has a bit of the nighttime izakaya vibe, which I don’t mind. Overall, I enjoyed a delicious oyako donburi. Thank you!

On June 26, 2024 (Wednesday), I made a reservation and visited "Sakaeya" on the third floor of Queens Square for lunch. I was able to dine in a private room, which was very comfortable. After 12:00 PM, the place was fully booked, and there were people waiting in line, so I recommend making a reservation. ◎Charcoal-grilled Chicken Hitsumabushi Set····1,200 yen The charcoal-grilled chicken thigh was incredibly tender and fragrant. It came served over fluffy white rice drizzled with a special soy sauce, making for an exquisite bowl. I enjoyed one bowl topped with a mix of egg and tororo (grated yam), and finishing with a comforting bowl of rice soaked in creamy chicken broth was truly delicious. ◎Ultimate Oyakodon Set····1,000 yen This oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) lived up to its name, featuring yolks that were rich and condensed with flavor. The chicken was grilled to perfection over charcoal, making for a filling and satisfying dish. ◎Sakaeya Salad with Steamed Chicken and Soft-Boiled Eggs····1,050 yen This salad featured fresh vegetables along with incredibly tender steamed chicken, complemented by a refreshing dressing that was very tasty. The portion was generous, so it would be good to share between two people. ◎Whole Tomato in Sweet Vinegar····660 yen The moment I took a bite, I was blown away. The sweet vinegar-soaked tomato was refreshing yet deliciously sweet, making it a dish I'd love to have again. ◎Dragon's Egg Dashi-Maki (Japanese Omelette)····920 yen The eggs were simply incredible. The flavoring was light, but the eggs were so rich that they paired well with sake or served as a side with white rice. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal. Thank you very much, and I look forward to visiting again.

We held a year-end party at Sakaeya, Yokohama Minato Mirai Main Store, enjoying a water-boiled chicken hot pot course. The rich, creamy broth was full of flavor, enhancing the taste of the chicken and perfectly complementing the vegetables. The course was satisfying from start to finish, including a delicious rice porridge at the end, leaving us feeling warm both inside and out as we reminisced about the memories of the year. With the beautiful night view of Minato Mirai as our backdrop, we had a luxurious time.

I saw water poached chicken on the menu and it looked delicious, but since I wanted something relaxing during my lunch break, I ordered a parent-and-child bowl. The chicken had both tenderness and a good texture, which I liked, and the egg was rich and tasty. The entrance was a bit hard to find, but aside from that, I really enjoyed it. Next time, I’ll try the water poached chicken.

When I accidentally entered through the back, I was told bluntly, "Please enter from the front." I understand if there are people waiting, but... After re-entering from the front, there was no one there. After a while, I was guided in. The staff's attitude wasn't very good. The oyakodon (parent and child rice bowl) was very delicious, but the water was bad.

I visited for lunch on the weekend, and I'm glad I made a reservation because there was a line outside. I chose chicken nanban, while my wife ordered the sesame mackerel set. The chicken nanban was crispy and freshly fried, and the sesame dressing on the mackerel, along with each of the various small side dishes, was all prepared with a carefully balanced light flavor. I was very satisfied with the meal.

I ordered the excellent sukiyaki course! The chicken that came in the middle is included here. Surprisingly, it's quite good. For sukiyaki, I definitely like to eat it with salt. The portion size is quite substantial, and by the end, I was really full.

In Minato Mirai, there's a restaurant offering gentle flavors. I visited on a weekday evening and was able to make a reservation online just that afternoon, which made it easy for a spontaneous meal. For the appetizer, I was served tofu with black sesame and chicken broth. The tofu was creamy and sweet, while the broth looked rich and cloudy, but it turned out to be light and smooth. For the main dish, I ordered a hot pot and added some chicken meatballs. The meatballs were especially delicious, so I recommend ordering extra. We finished with a rice porridge (zousui), which the staff prepared for us. Even if there wasn’t much broth left in the hot pot, the staff added more, allowing us to enjoy it fully. For dessert, I had ice cream with a smooth texture and pleasantly sweet warabi mochi drizzled with黒蜜 (black syrup). The food was refined and delicious. Lately, I had mainly been dining at izakayas, Western restaurants, and Chinese eateries, so this comforting flavor was a treat. However, the service was a bit slow; while this restaurant isn’t focused on speed, it may be something to consider. I recommend visiting when you want to take your time and enjoy a leisurely meal.

At the third stop of my bar hopping, I enjoyed a chicken and egg bowl as my final dish. The taste of the creamy eggs was incredibly delicious. There was also a version with soft bones and a plum flavor that paired wonderfully with the drinks. The seating arrangement has partitions, providing a semi-private atmosphere where I could relax. I had previously enjoyed their chicken hot pot and found it delicious, so I often went for that. However, now that I've discovered their other menu items are also tasty, I'd like to visit again and try a variety of dishes.

As it's a specialty chicken restaurant, the grilled chicken rice bowl was delicious. It was plump, juicy, and very meaty. The chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard) also had a refined flavor, and I enjoyed every bite without getting bored. Since I visited during lunch hours, I found the prices to be reasonable. The interior of the restaurant is calm, making it a great place to enjoy a meal at leisure.

I was late for my reservation, but they kindly accommodated me. Thank you! I reserved the hot pot course for ¥3,000 per person. Depending on the group's drinking preferences, we also opted for an additional drink package. The sunken kotatsu seating provided a relaxed atmosphere. The pace of the food service was just right, and the staff showed great care. The balance of the course was excellent, and for the hot pot finale, we had a hearty rice porridge that really filled us up. Overall, I was very satisfied.

I am always drawn to a flower basket filled with various dishes to enjoy a little bit of everything. I think the reason many of the dishes were quite flavorful is that it was an izakaya. Each dish was provided with care, which left a good impression. Since there is a private space behind a noren (fabric curtain), it seems like a place where you can relax and enjoy your meal.

I came to Sakaiya on the third floor of Queen's Square in Minato Mirai to try their famous oyakodon (chicken and egg bowl). According to my friend, it’s exceptional. The oyakodon features generously sized chicken that has been grilled over charcoal, giving it a delightful aroma. The egg yolk is rich and creamy, making this a luxurious dish where both the chicken and egg are truly top-notch.

I used the restaurant again for lunch. The simple oyakodon lunch course is very convenient when you want to enjoy a leisurely meal during the day. I'm also a bit curious about the water-boiled chicken lunch, but since it's hot right now, I think I'll wait until winter. Once again, the food was very delicious.

The atmosphere was calm and, in a good way, had a flavor that appeals to older customers. The chicken breast was incredibly delicious, and I want to eat it again. The staff seemed busy, and it felt like our course was forgotten, but we can use the call button if needed. Given the extreme heat lately, I was sweating from the heat of the gas stove while cooking the hot pot, so it would be great if the air conditioning was strong. It might depend on where you sit, but overall, I'm glad I came.

Sakaeya, I always think that the seating arrangement is messy and cramped. It’s good for sitting close and drinking, but if it were a bit more spacious, it would be more relaxing. The service is not as good as you'd expect for the price. You can't see the Minato Mirai scenery, so I’d like to see more compensating services. The food is quite good, though.

I remembered a great experience with water-dakiyaki, so I made a reservation with my son and daughter. My daughter ordered the ultimate parent-child rice bowl set (1,000 yen), my son had the grilled eel rice bowl set (1,200 yen), and I chose the salmon and roe rice bowl set (1,300 yen). Although I’m not a big eater, it wasn’t enough, so I added a large fried chicken set (1,000 yen). We also ordered some side dishes: omelette (920 yen), horse meat yukke (1,320 yen), and diced tuna (720 yen). This time, I was glad we reserved since we got a private room. Thank you for the meal!

This restaurant specializes in chicken dishes, and I visited for lunch. I arrived right when it opened, and there were no other customers yet. However, I was seated in an uncomfortable, awkward spot in the middle, while other customers who came in later were given better seats. I wanted to enjoy a quiet lunch at an early hour, but it was quite unsettling. Since it was a slow time, I couldn’t understand why they seated everyone in such a cramped area. The food was delicious, but the grilled chicken sauce for the hitsumabushi (a nourishing rice dish) was made from chicken broth. While it was good, the portion was a bit small and served in a container that cooled down quickly, which was disappointing. When I think of hitsumabushi, I imagine pouring hot broth over it, so I hope they can improve on this aspect in the future.

I visited for lunch on the weekend and had the oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) and the salt chicken karaage set. The oyakodon came with generous portions of chicken, and the karaage was freshly fried and served in a huge portion. The access is a bit complicated, but considering the price and quality in Minato Mirai on a holiday, I think it's amazing!

A long time ago, I visited Hakata and had waterzooi, so I came back specifically for that. We ordered a classic waterzooi for two (¥4,400 including tax), an exquisite oyakodon for my daughter (¥1,100), two servings of grapefruit juice (¥800), and two appetizers (¥1,000). A 5% service charge is also added. After asking about the proper way to eat, we started by taking the chicken from the pot. We devoured it boldly while tearing it away from the bones. The soup was made from the carcasses of 100 chickens, which gave it a rich flavor. It was filled with vegetables, tofu, and chicken meatballs, which we simmered on a table-top burner. We dipped our pieces in ponzu and yuzu kosho for extra flavor. I’ve never really thought about it before, but it’s clear there’s a lot of collagen in this dish. I wanted to try some zosui (rice porridge) or add more chicken, but I couldn't because I had eaten Shonan pancakes just 30 minutes prior, so I finished the pot without any added rice, noodles, or meat. The exquisite oyakodon had a vibrant orange yolk and was rich in flavor, much to my daughter's delight. We chose a sunken kotatsu table, but it turned out to be closer to the neighboring table than expected, with nothing but a bamboo screen as a divider, making it hard to ignore the loud voices of drunk guests. I hope to eat in a private room next time for a more relaxed experience. Thank you for the meal!

The restaurant is directly connected to Minato Mirai Station, located on the 3rd floor of Queen's Square. It has been around for over 20 years and specializes in mizutaki (chicken hot pot) and chicken dishes. The menu offers various delicious options, including mizutaki and chicken sukiyaki. ──────────────────── ⭐️ Ordered Menu ☑︎ Supreme Oyako Don Set - 1,300 yen (tax included) ──────────────────── This time, I chose the "Supreme Oyako Don Set" for a weekend lunch, which comes with all-you-can-drink miso soup and a sweet treat for 1,300 yen. It seems to be around 1,000 yen on weekdays? The chicken used is a rare cut called "tori-toro," lightly grilled over charcoal, adding a fragrant flavor as you eat. The eggs are from "Ryū no Tamago," and the rice is "Aizu Special A Hitomebore." It also includes the rich chicken bone broth and a secret stock used for their famous mizutaki. This is a must-try oyako don! ─ Waiting Time & Restaurant Atmosphere ─ I was able to enter without much wait just before noon on a holiday. By the time I left, there were a few people waiting, so if you time it poorly, you might have to wait a little. The interior has a chic and modern vibe, giving off a somewhat hidden gem atmosphere. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant alone for the first time during lunch. I stopped by for a quick bite before a meeting at a nearby client. There was no line, so I was seated right away. Since it’s a chicken restaurant, I ordered the premium oyakodon set (¥1,000). I enjoyed the delicious, perfectly cooked oyakodon. Thank you for the meal!
