I used to think it was such a luxury to feel completely full after having beef tongue at Rikyu, but I finally tried it myself. Although beef tongue was the main focus, I also enjoyed combinations like skirt steak. The beef tongue sausage was impressive too!

One of the famous places for Sendai beef tongue (gyutan) is Rikyu at Gransta. When I had it in Sendai, it was impressively delicious✨ I ordered the "Tan no U" lunch, which comes with grilled beef tongue and a side of tongue curry. The classic barley rice and the rich tail soup loaded with green onions were just perfect ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧ Right now, they're not serving lunch, only the regular menu, but when I was asked if that was okay, I had no objections, haha. It seemed like most people were ordering the beef tongue set or the premium beef tongue set. I thought they should try the curry too, haha. The beef tongue releases a good fat as you chew, making it tender and easy to bite through. Mmm, delicious✨ I really want to visit Sendai again. Last year, there was a rise in the price of beef tongue. Because it had generally become quite expensive, I had been staying away from it. However, I suddenly craved beef tongue. I had a set meal that included beef tongue mini stew, three types of grilled beef tongue, oxtail soup, and a salad. I enjoyed being able to sample a variety of dishes. The grilled beef tongue was consistently delicious. The stew was tender and paired well with the demi-glace sauce. The oxtail soup was light yet packed with meaty flavor, making it excellent. The salad had what I thought were croutons, but it turned out to have chicken on top, showing the attention to detail in the meal. Thank you for the delicious food!

In tonight's Gourmet Exploration Team in Tokyo, we tried gyutan (beef tongue) at "Rikyu" in Tokyo Station's GranSta. Rikyu has surprisingly become a major chain with branches all over the country. When I arrived around 7 PM on a weekday, about half of the seats were occupied. Although there are counter seats available, I was seated at a table and took a look at the menu. I decided to go for the classic gyutan set meal (3 pieces, tax included at 2,508 yen). It seems that due to the weak yen, prices have really increased. A quick check of old reviews showed that it used to be around 1,800 yen including tax just a few years ago. The price has jumped significantly in just five years. After placing my order, a small side dish was served, and shortly after, the gyutan arrived. The set, which includes barley rice, gyutan, and oxtail soup, was indeed satisfying. The taste was reliably good. However, with the set meal costing 2,500 yen, it feels a bit too luxurious for an average dinner.

I worked late and went with my partner. The interior of the restaurant is surprisingly calm, considering it's right underneath Tokyo Station. Since we were there, I ordered the beef tongue set meal with three pieces, which includes six slices. I was disappointed that there was no tororo (grated yam), which is a standard companion to beef tongue, but the slices were thick and flavorful. The small side dish was also great for enjoying with beer. I appreciated the mini dessert as well. My partner ordered the beef tongue stew set meal. It came with a generous salad and was quite filling. The beef tongue was tender and delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant without waiting in line for lunch and chose the daily special (1980 yen), which included beef tongue, oyster rice, and stewed potatoes. I prefer the texture of the meat at Rikyu rather than a softer kind. I enjoyed the stewed potatoes as well, but I started to think that maybe I would have preferred a regular beef tongue set with oxtail soup and grated yam instead. It was delicious overall.

During my son's hospital visit, we strolled around the Tokyo Station building for lunch and found this restaurant, "Rikyu Tokyo Station Gransta Yaesu." I was excited that I could enjoy Rikyu from Sendai here (≧▽≦). I wondered if there had always been a branch at Tokyo Station and, after a quick search, discovered it had recently opened. The interior is bright, and the staff are cheerful. There are about ten table seats and counter seating, making it easy for families and solo diners to feel comfortable. Today, we ordered the #Beef Tongue Soy Sauce Ramen and from the lunch menu, the #Hamburger Plate (my son wanted to try the Beef Tongue Stew as well, so we chose this). The beef tongue was tender and delicious, and the hamburger was to my liking as well!

I had some business in Okachimachi at night, and since dinner was delayed, I arranged to meet my wife at Tokyo Station to have dinner together. I ordered the "Tannou Set Meal" which included beef tongue stew, while my wife went for the regular beef tongue set. The staff member who took our orders cheerfully said, "I'm a stew fan too!" It was such a fun interaction. The Tannou set also comes with a salad, making it a healthy choice. The salted tail soup seemed like a good way to combat heat exhaustion too. I had lunch at Tokyo Station while transferring trains. I visited a new location of a famous Sendai beef tongue restaurant, Rikyu, which just opened. On the evening of July 17, 2024 (Wednesday), I had dinner after working in Murayama until the early afternoon. I missed lunch, so I headed to work in Nihonbashi in the evening. For dinner, I decided to try RIKU, located in the basement level 1 of GRANSTA YAESU on the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station. This restaurant just opened on July 11, so it's less than a week old. I wondered what this place was before. The location here is not very good, as all the nearby restaurants seem to have few customers. Is it one of those situations where you crave a dish from a trip after returning? I ordered the beef tongue set meal (3 pieces, 6 slices) for 2,280 yen (including tax 2,508 yen) and a domestic yam tororo (150 yen, including tax 165 yen). Compared to the beef tongue I had four days ago at Tanya Zenjiro, this one was somewhat lacking. The meat was tough and hard to chew, and it became even tougher over time. It wasn’t bad, but the previous restaurant's flavor was so good that the differences became stark. The total bill came to 2,618 yen.

This popular chain originating from Sendai, known for its beef tongue, has now expanded to many prefectures across Japan! Our location is just a 1-2 minute walk from the ticket gates at Tokyo Station, and it features a clean store with counter seating. On a weekday around 6 PM, the restaurant was about 70% full. While other locations had long lines, this one might be a hidden gem. **What I ordered:** Beef tongue set meal - ¥2508 Tororo - ¥2673 When the staff asked, "Our rice is barley rice, and we recommend the tororo; would you like some?" I thoughtlessly agreed, only to find out it was an extra charge. I understand why, but it would be nice if they clarified whether it was free or not. It felt a bit confusing, especially since they had just explained that extra rice is free, and the question about rice quantity came immediately after. Also, I used to frequent another branch back in my student days, and I noticed that the prices have really gone up. Given the current economic situation, I can understand, but a set meal nearing ¥3000 feels a bit steep for everyday dining. However, the great location, the fact that it wasn't crowded, and the availability of counter seating make it very convenient for solo diners. If I find myself in a bind for meals again, I think I'll visit again. Thank you for the meal!
