I went on a trip to have lunch and unfortunately, the weather was bad, so Chinatown was quite empty. It took a little over 5 minutes to get to the restaurant from Motomachi-Chukagai Station. The entrance showcased their recommended Lu Rou Fan, along with various set and course menus! When I entered through the automatic door, it just so happened that there were no other customers! (laughs) My main goal was to try the Lu Rou Fan set with some additional shumai! It took a bit of time, but the Lu Rou Fan set and the shumai were served almost simultaneously!
First, let's talk about the set. It includes Lu Rou Fan, soup, and dessert – a three-item set for just 900 yen! I couldn't help but worry if that was too cheap! (laughs) However, I heard that it used to be even cheaper… As for the Lu Rou Fan, it consists of braised pork belly, minced meat, seasonal greens, and a boiled egg. I was surprised by the size of the braised pork and the egg! The seasoning was light, and the spices like star anise were quite subtle.
Some people complained that there wasn't a clear menu for the set or commented on the price, but there's actually a notice about the set right at the door level! (laughs) Spices are generally expensive ingredients, so it’s natural for prices to increase when used. The individual item is 600 yen, and the set is 900 yen, which seems quite inexpensive. It's important to note that while this Lu Rou Fan is made to be "generally" easy to eat, those expecting something "authentic" might feel disappointed. However, I think it's quite rare to find a restaurant that serves both braised pork and a boiled egg in such generous portions! Plus, it comes with wonton soup and almond tofu. The wonton soup was delicious, and if I had to nitpick, the almond tofu was missing cherries, but that’s just a minor remark! (laughs)
Recently, I've been exploring various Lu Rou Fan places, and this restaurant offers great value for money. It was really tasty. Thank you for the meal! ♪♪
