Sakai's famous sweet, Geshi Mochi, loved by Sen no Rikyu. It has a gentle sweetness that is not too overwhelming. It is simply delicious. It contains no additives, so it has a good shelf life. And, the Nikki is also delicious. I believe you can only buy Nikki at this shop. This time, I purchased both Nikki and Geshi Mochi.

Sakai, a long-established shop among long-established shops. In Sakai, there are "Kojimaya" and "Honke Kojima" for keshi mochi. "Kojimaya" is easier to purchase at places like Kansai Airport. "Honke Kojima" can only be obtained by visiting the store in Sakai. Personally, I prefer the quaint atmosphere of "Honke Kojima", and I find that the mustard flavor is more pronounced in the main house.

It was a shop that seemed to have an aura of a very historical building, probably loved by historical figures, with a truly elegant harmony of sweet red bean paste, mustard, and rice cakes. Even if you don't like sweet things, you could probably eat it up!

When I visited in the early afternoon, there were no customers so I was able to get a takeout right away! I bought some Nikki mochi and Keshi mochi, which were available for takeout that day. They also had anko and kinako dango, but it seemed like you needed to pre-order those the day before. The Keshi mochi was small but packed with plenty of anko filling, and had a chewy texture with a hint of sesame flavor, it was really delicious. The Nikki mochi was heavier and had a nice aroma and flavor. Personally, I preferred the Nikki mochi! They were priced at 150 yen each, which I thought was reasonable for how tasty they were. I would like to get them as souvenirs next time!

This is a long-established store that I love. My friend who always guides me around Sakai (Mamochan in Sakai) took me here. I'm so happy~ I'm always so grateful. There are two types of mochi, Akashimochi and Nikkimo. Akashimochi is delicious too, but I love Nikkimo. I want to try both, so I got a mix. The price has gone up a bit from before, but it's still very reasonable! It's truly a blessing to be able to enjoy this elegant, sweet, soft, and smooth mochi at this price.

A visit to a long-established Japanese sweets shop in Sakai on a holiday afternoon. The shop is located in a traditional Japanese house. On this day, there were four types of Japanese sweets in the showcase: - Kesimochi (140 yen) - Nikki (140 yen) - Okina (170 yen, requires reservation the day before) - Anpin (150 yen, requires reservation the day before) I purchased 3 pieces of Kesimochi and 3 pieces of Nikki. Kesimochi is a smooth red bean paste wrapped in mochi with mustard seeds sprinkled on top. It has a gentle sweetness and the texture of the mustard seeds adds a nice touch. Nikki has a soft mochi wrapping around smooth red bean paste. The mochi is brown in color with the scent of nikki. The harmony between the red bean paste and mochi is delightful. The mochi is coated in white powder and has a smooth texture. The shop has a history dating back to the first year of Tenbun era, which is 1532. According to their website, it was a favorite of Sen no Rikyu. It was truly delicious traditional Japanese sweets with a remarkable history.

In the first year of Tenmon, which was 490 years ago, the 21st head of the family was a young man. The rice cakes are made from 4 o'clock in the morning. The recipes have been passed down through generations, preserving the original taste. I bought 6 pieces of Akamoku and Nikki rice cakes. Currently, one piece costs 140 yen. I will enjoy them while feeling the history. Inside the soft rice cake, there is a perfect sweetness of red bean paste. Both the chewy texture and refreshing flavor of Nikki are delightful. When buying a lot, it is convenient to make a reservation by phone in advance to reduce the waiting time. Experience the original deliciousness of the main store. Thank you for the meal!

After visiting the Daisen Kofun, a World Heritage site, I was taken to this local tea house by the president of one of our business partners. It is located near the birthplace of Sen no Rikyu, known for its tea sweets associated with Rikyu. It's near the Gekotei. Although you can't find this sesame mochi anywhere else, its chewy texture and refined sweetness are truly outstanding. It's no wonder it's considered a top-quality product from Sakai!

On this day, I had a job managing an event in Sakai City and visited Sakai City for the first time. I decided to buy a local specialty as a souvenir, and after some research, I found this place. My companion doesn't usually eat sweets, but for some reason, they like Gesshi Mochi. After finishing the job successfully, we headed to the shop. 1. Exterior, atmosphere, interior of the shop: About a 20-minute walk from Sakai Station on the Nankai Main Line. It was a hot summer afternoon, and I almost died from the heat while walking there. I saw a white noren hanging alone. It's located in a quiet residential area, with a really quiet and serene atmosphere. Inside the shop, there were old glass cases and banners neatly arranged, as if time had stopped. It was so quiet and had a unique atmosphere. 2. About the food: There were two types of sweets available for purchase without a reservation: "Gesshi Mochi" and "Nikkei Mochi." I didn't put them in a gift box since they were for home use, but they were carefully wrapped. The wrapping paper had an illustration of Sen no Rikyu, which was cool and stylish. The design sense was excellent! Gesshi Mochi has a smooth sweet bean paste inside a fine and stretchy mochi. The Gesshi seeds are beautifully and uniformly wrapped around the mochi. The harmony between the mildly sweet bean paste and the fragrant Gesshi seeds is excellent. Nikkei Mochi highlights the refreshing and spicy flavor of Nikkei. The fluffy and soft texture of the mochi, the mature aroma of Nikkei, and the simple sweetness of the red bean paste create a perfect balance. 3. Staff service: As soon as I entered the shop, a male staff member came out from the back and explained each type of sweet in detail. He reassured me that it was okay to buy just one piece, which made me feel at ease while shopping. The packaging was also meticulous and pleasant. 4. Cost performance: I was able to enjoy two well-made mochi sweets that made good use of quality ingredients. Considering the 400-year tradition that you can feel, the price of 140 yen per piece is quite reasonable. The staff's response was also pleasant, so I think the cost performance is good. 5. Other observations: I would like to try the reserved sales items "Ou" and "Anpei" as well.

A gift from my grandmother. She often says, "This is from the original Kojima family," when giving it as a souvenir. Until recently, I didn't realize that it's different from the one in Hankyu Umeda. Indeed, the keshimochi here has a very soft and delicious texture compared to the surrounding rice cakes.

Located just a 1-minute walk from Sakai-Sujiyama Station on the Hankai Tramway is the famous "Honke Kojima" known for its specialty Sakai mustard mochi. The shop, established in the first year of Tenbun era (1532), exudes a traditional atmosphere with its aged exterior and old-fashioned interior, reflecting its long history. They pride themselves on using the finest ingredients and handcrafting their products without any additives. The shop is filled with references to being the original and the authentic. During my visit, I purchased their Sakai mustard mochi and Nikki mochi. The Sakai mustard mochi, a famous mochi loved by Sen no Rikyu, features smooth red bean paste encased in mochi, topped with mustard seeds for a delightful crunch. The flavor of the mustard seeds adds a nice touch to the mochi. The red bean paste is not overly sweet, making it easy to eat. The Nikki mochi, on the other hand, is a mochi filled with red bean paste mixed with ground Nikki (Japanese pepper). It has a subtle aroma of Japanese pepper and is also very delicious. These unique treats can only be purchased at this shop, making them a perfect gift for anyone. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

I wanted to eat keshi mochi after a long time, so I went to buy some. When it comes to keshi mochi in Sakai, the famous place is Honke Kojima-ya. People's preferences may vary. Today, I felt like having both Honke Kojima-ya's keshi mochi and nikki mochi. I enjoy the chewy texture of keshi mochi. It is slightly bigger and darker than Kojima-ya's. Nikki mochi has a soft, melting texture. When you put it in your mouth, it releases a fragrant scent of nikki. In my opinion, it is the number one nikki mochi. Established in the first year of the Tenbun era. I enjoyed it deliciously while feeling the history. Sakai also has other places where walnut mochi is delicious, and it seems like there are many shops with delicious Japanese sweets.

When it comes to famous sweets in Sakai, there are various traditional Japanese confections to choose from. One of the most popular ones is Keshi Mochi, which consists of sweet bean paste wrapped in thin mochi and sprinkled with poppy seeds on the surface. There are only two shops in Sakai that sell this delicacy, and one of them is Kojimaya. The shop near Hankai Tramway's Shukuin Station is called Kojimaya, and they also have a store in a department store. I visited Kojimaya this time, where they wrap the Keshi Mochi in traditional paper packaging. It is best to enjoy it on the same day as it does not have a long shelf life. The poppy seeds on the surface provide a nice crunchy texture, and the sweetness is just right, making it a perfect match with tea.

【Original Kojima】Established in the first year of Tenbun (1532), the famous confectionery "Keshi Mochi" with a history of 490 years, loved by Sen no Rikyu (#^.^#). Since its founding as a confectionery store Yoshioemon, it has been preserving the traditional taste for over four centuries (^o^)丿. We continue to pass down the traditional famous confectionery loved by Sen no Rikyu to the present day. I received a gift set recommended by a friend, consisting of Nikki and Keshi Mochi, and it was packed beautifully (*^^)v. The fine-textured mochi, carefully kneaded sweet bean paste, and high-quality mustard seeds... the exquisite harmony of flavors they create is truly enjoyable. You can tell that they have inherited the traditional secret techniques and put their heart into making this exceptional product (●^o^●). It seems like a gift that would be appreciated as a souvenir or present. I look forward to revisiting at the right timing (≧▽≦)/~♡.

On this day, I wandered around Sakai. After enjoying some walnut mochi at Kanbukuro, I visited Nanshuji Temple to get a temple stamp. Then, I planned to visit the observation floor of Sakai City Hall to overlook Emperor Nintoku's Mausoleum, but it was closed for maintenance that day. So, I wandered around the Sakai Higashi area and returned to Hankai Sakai-shukuin Station to continue my food tour! I passed by a shop I had bookmarked and decided to give it a try. Just like Kanbukuro, this shop also has a long history dating back to the Muromachi period. The exterior and interior of the shop were very stylish. I bought their famous Kesimochi and Nikkimochi, each for 140 yen. I took them to a bench to enjoy! The Kesimochi had a crunchy texture and a delicious aroma of mustard seeds. The Nikkimochi had a nostalgic flavor of cinnamon. They are made without any additives, have a good shelf life as fresh sweets, and can be softened by toasting over a fire when they harden. They are perfect as souvenirs! Nearby, there is another shop called Honke Kojima that also sells Kesimochi. Originally, this shop was named Kojimaya, but when they could no longer continue business, they sold the name to the current Kojimaya. When Honke Kojima reopened the shop after the war, they used the original name Kojimaya, which led to a legal dispute and eventually settled on the current name Honke Kojima. It seems there are disputes over shop names quite often. I would like to try comparing the Kesimochi from Honke Kojima and Kojimaya next time! Thank you for the meal. To be continued...

This morning, I had some traditional Japanese sweets from a shop called "Honke Kojima", located near the Sumiyoshi Station on the Hankai Line in Sakai City. I got the following items for takeout: - Kesimochi (mustard seed rice cake) for 140 yen each (tax included). I bought 3 pieces individually. As for the taste, it was incredibly delicious! The moment I put it in my mouth, the crunchy texture and the nutty flavor of the mustard seeds spread. The rice cake had a good chewy texture, and the sweet bean paste was not too sweet, but had the perfect balance of sweetness and the nutty flavor of the mustard seeds. This is so tasty! It would make a great souvenir. I will definitely come back to buy more. Next time, I'll get a box. Highly recommended takeout shop!
