I usually review ramen, but occasionally I will review the breakfast at hotels where I stayed. This is a series of breakfast reviews that are a bit more touristy and recommended. The second installment is the "Breakfast Buffet" at the "Art Hotel Asahikawa" in Asahikawa.
Asahikawa is a place I often visit for business trips, and the hotels I stay at vary each time. The Art Hotel in Asahikawa, which has been around for a long time, is popular among business guests for its hot springs, but it also has a spa in the basement (for a fee) and a restaurant on the 15th floor with a great view and a breakfast featuring local ingredients. The hotel has changed names over the years, from Palace Hotel to Lozail Hotel to Art Hotels, and since 2016 it has been known as Art Hotel. This time, there was a plan for one night with breakfast included for 6,200 yen, so I decided to use it after a long time.
At 7:00 in the morning, I went to the 15th floor restaurant "Hokkaido Sky Terrace MINORI" for breakfast, and the spacious restaurant was bustling with guests. After securing a seat by the window, I headed to the buffet corner to get breakfast. There were salad, Western dishes, rice, and then I turned the corner to the Japanese food corner. There was also a corner for Asahikawa ramen, but I decided to refrain since I was planning to have ramen at "Tenkin" for lunch. However, I couldn't resist and had some menma as a topping for the miso soup. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes that couldn't fit on a plate of 9 items. Salad, sausages, bacon, yakisoba, shumai, onion rings, potato steak, yudofu, and more, all made from locally sourced ingredients, were placed on a tray and brought back to the table.
Now, let's dig in! It was delicious from the morning! The menu mainly consisted of ingredients from the mountains of Asahikawa, and the quality of the breakfast at the hotel was high. I enjoyed the chef's specialty dishes. By the way, the "Asahikawa soy sauce yakisoba" is a third local Asahikawa menu that they want to promote, following "Asahikawa ramen" and "Shio Horumon", but it doesn't seem to be gaining popularity. The condition is to use noodles made from Asahikawa rice flour. Since there seems to be a gradual "rice flour" boom going on, with the right appeal, it might become a hit. The mochi mochi texture was delicious! The miso soup with menma, which is normally used for ramen, was also delicious with plenty of ingredients. I quickly finished it all. It was delicious from the morning! The dessert corner with cakes and ice cream was also well-stocked, but I was already full, so unfortunately, I had to pass. Instead, I enjoyed a cup of coffee while looking at the view outside. As expected, the "Sky Terrace" name was fitting, with an unobstructed view and a great sight of the sky. The sky was blue, and I could see the Teshio mountain range in the distance. Beyond that, there are places like Wakkanai, Nayoro, and Rumoi. Now that I've had a hearty breakfast and enjoyed the beautiful view, I'm fully recharged in both mind and body. Let's work hard today as well! A fulfilling breakfast typical of a Hokkaido hotel in Asahikawa. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal! (Visited on April 25, 2022) (Posted on September 12, 2022)
