グルメハンター・酔いどれ天使
8-5, Kita 2-jo Higashi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido. Located further east from Sapporo Factory in Higashi-ku, near Naganuma Memorial Park, this Chinese restaurant is a two-story building with a prominent photo of tantanmen on the wall facing the street. I had been curious about their tantanmen for a while, so I visited around 6 pm. I climbed the stairs to the second floor, where I found a menu with photos on the wall. Inside, the restaurant had a typical Chinese eatery vibe, with a few customers already seated. The kitchen was not visible from the dining area. There were counter seats, regular tables, and even a raised tatami seating area at the back. I ordered the tantanmen and half serving of shrimp fried rice for 1200 yen. The tantanmen had a simple combination of ground meat and green onions, lacking in leafy greens. The soup was not the usual white sesame paste-based, but rather a spicy broth with cayenne pepper and chili. Although it was different from my expectations, the light yet flavorful soup with a hint of garlic and ginger turned out to be quite tasty. The noodles were made from 100% locally sourced wheat. The shrimp fried rice, cooked in lard, contained shrimp and egg, and was served with pickled daikon and cabbage. The restaurant also offered a complimentary drink after the meal, with choices like hot coffee, 100% orange juice, or oolong tea. I chose oolong tea and was pleasantly surprised when they also brought out some karinto (Japanese fried dough snacks). The miso soup portion was generous, and the overall nostalgic atmosphere of the place was charming. They had a variety of set menus, including options for choosing two main dishes, as well as curry dishes priced at 750 yen and 790 yen for katsu curry. The cashier area displayed a cute illustration of the owner and the hostess, drawn by a customer. The restaurant was non-smoking, with a designated smoking area next to the cashier.
