【Takeout】In Sapporo, which has become popular with tourists in the past 10-20 years, a new takeout shop for zangi opened in July 2020 at the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market, in the same spot where a popular ohagi shop used to be over 40 years ago. The shop mainly offers chicken products such as zangi, half-fried chicken, chicken tempura with egg, and konjac oden. The shop is located along Kuoen-Hassamu Street within the Central Market, near the entrance of the market dining alley where various food establishments are lined up. Recently, I revisited the shop while shopping at the Central Market and decided to buy their zangi again as it was really good the last time. Unfortunately, I lost my notes and can't remember the exact price, but I recall it being quite a good deal. I enjoyed the zangi while walking towards Nijuhokken Station, and found the frying and seasoning to be just right. The oil used for frying was also of good quality. I will definitely keep coming back to buy this every time I visit the market.

I visited "Tori Shin" located outside the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market. It's great that they are open in the morning! I asked the cheerful and friendly staff for a Zangi skewer. She also recommended a Toriage skewer, but I couldn't eat it here. So, I asked if I could eat the special Zangi skewer here, and she said yes. I sat at the outdoor seating area and enjoyed the Zangi skewer, which had three pieces on a skewer. It was a bit firm but had a great flavor that spread in my mouth. It would be a perfect side dish for a bento. I quickly finished it, but the delicious aroma of the Zangi lingered. I promised the staff that I would definitely come back for the Toriage skewer next time. Thank you for the meal!

Outside the market, "Torishin," which opened on July 1, 2020, is open on Sundays. I hurriedly went there as they were open on Sundays. In front of the store, a young female staff member was calling out to customers. The menu mainly consists of fried chicken items such as "zangi, half fried, leg." Actually, I came here with the intention of visiting this place, but with the body of an old man who was lured by the young lady, I bought "zangi@250" haha. I continued to wander around without eating along the way, so I ended up taking it home without eating. I will have it as a side dish for dinner. When I bought it, it was freshly fried and hot, but over time, the coating became moist. The meat texture seemed to have become tough after cooling down, but it was surprisingly juicy and tender with a hint of garlic flavor, and the light seasoning was well-balanced. On the visit, I purchased "Zangi on its own," "Zangi skewer," "Miso oden," "Toriten," and "fried sweet potato." My companion loves sweet potatoes. I bought "fried sweet potato skewer" for 250 yen and "Zangi skewer" for 250 yen. Toriten is priced at 150 yen per 100g. I requested 100g. The actual weights were Zangi skewer 113g, fried sweet potato skewer 180g, and Toriten 122g. Zangi was delicious and crispy, priced at 250 yen. Fried sweet potato was wrapped in a pancake-like flour and tasted great. Toriten, flavored with ginger soy sauce, was a good side dish. The staff kindly gave a little extra Toriten. On a certain weekday, I had lunch and stumbled upon a new fried chicken shop nearby, so I rushed in. It's a takeout-only shop specializing in fried chicken and other items located in the Sapporo Central Market area. The shop is small and faces the main street of the market, so it's easy to miss if you're driving by for the first time. They have a showcase displaying various fried chicken and oden items for sale, and there are a few outdoor tables and chairs where you can eat. On this day, I ordered a few items from the menu. The "Fried Chicken Skewer (250 yen)" had three pieces of fried chicken skewered like acorns, and the meat under the crispy coating was flavorful, soaked in a delicious dashi-based sauce. The "Chicken Tempura (100g for 150 yen)" had a light saltiness with hints of ginger and other flavors, different from regular fried chicken coating. I also tried the "Miso Oden (150 yen)" with a large piece of konjac, which had a satisfying texture and a sweet-savory miso sauce that complemented the seafood flavor well. Overall, I was impressed by the excellent use of dashi in the fried chicken and the delicious miso sauce on the oden. Thank you for the meal.

I wonder why I never noticed this place before, even though it's been open for over a month. Oh well, it's a new discovery for me. They have a simple setup with benches, tables, and beer available. You can even enjoy a casual drink during the day. It's a takeout only place with a variety of zangi (fried chicken) options and beer. The zangi is delicious and tender, even though it's made with chicken thigh meat. They offer zangi by weight, zangi skewers, and beer. I can imagine local elderly folks taking a stroll and enjoying zangi and beer here. For those like me who don't drink much, they also have oolong tea available. I'll definitely be back, and maybe if I can guess the owner's name, they'll give me extra zangi!
