Gourmet Feast Journey Part 14 - Conquering the Unexplored Kishu Area (Truly the Kitchen of the Nation, Osaka) at Night. The location is less than a 10-minute walk from Osaka Tenmangu Station. It's near the intersection of Higashi Tenma Minami. When I arrived around 5:40 pm on a weekday, the restaurant was already bustling with customers. It's amazing to see so many customers at this time. By around 6 pm, there were already several groups waiting, so it's definitely a popular spot!!! (I later found out that there are even longer lines on Saturdays... haha) Weekday power is truly amazing!!! Solo trips are best done on weekdays, right? The interior of the restaurant is all table seating, giving off a typical local diner vibe. The teamwork and atmosphere were really pleasant. I ordered the following: Niku-sui Teishoku (meat and tofu simmered in broth) for 1,050 yen; Dashimaki (rolled omelette with broth) for 400 yen. First, the Dashimaki. It was exactly like a Kansai-style egg roll, with a generous amount of broth making it incredibly fluffy and moist. This was extremely delicious!!! There's a popular egg roll shop in my local area that always has long lines, but this one, at a more reasonable price, is just as good... no complaints at all about this 400 yen Dashimaki. Next, the Niku-sui. Similar to the Dashimaki, it had a rich and delicious broth flavor, with the meat also giving off a good broth taste, enhancing the overall richness and flavor. It was incredibly tasty!!! It had plenty of tofu and was quite filling. It pairs perfectly with rice, making it the ultimate side dish!!! The combination of the simple meat flavor and the broth was so delicious that I ended up finishing it all in one go. Who knew Niku-sui could be this delicious, it's strange that it's not available in the Tokyo area, it's that good! No wonder everyone in Kansai loves broth (laughs). Before the start of the Namba Grand Kagetsu show, I heard the refrain "Osaka is full of delicious food~" in a song, and this broth culture might just be the essence of Osaka's delicious food... the core of its deliciousness!!! The taste really hit home. It felt like I touched upon the soul food of Osaka, or the core essence of Osaka. It was really great!!!

"One Fujisan Shokudo" @ Osaka Tenmangu Shrine / Osaka ~ Final day of Kansai Blitz Expedition ~ Last night, the Toyama team safely returned home, and today, the final day, I went solo. The first stop was the well-known old-fashioned eatery "One Fujisan Shokudo," which is famous for having the best dashimaki tamago in Kansai. I managed to slip in for the first round just 30 minutes before opening, but there were already about 20 customers ahead of me. The menu offers various items such as udon, donburi, and Western-style dishes, but most customers were there for this particular combination. ★ "Niku-sui Teishoku" (1,050 yen) (rice / small side dish / pickles) ★ "Dashimaki" (400 yen) There is almost no pre-made food, and they cook each order, so it takes about 10 to 15 minutes, but that's actually a good thing. First, the dashimaki tamago arrived. "It's... huge..." Steam rose from it, and it was jiggly and shiny. It was a truly elegant sight. The niku-sui teishoku was served next. The niku-sui had a generous portion, and the grated radish in the small side dish was a nice touch. It was the dream Osaka soul food teishoku I had always wanted. The dashimaki tamago was so soft that it would crumble if picked up with chopsticks, and when you put it in your mouth, it melted with a silky smooth texture and a flood of dashi flavor. It's amazing that such a high-quality tamago-yaki is only 400 yen. The niku-sui, with its fluffy silk tofu and plenty of beef, including a poached egg, was a scalding hot dish that was sure to burn your mouth. The salt-based flavor combined with the beef broth made the rice go down easily. The dishes themselves are simple, but the care and skill of the chefs shine through, making it a true feast. Despite its location quite far from the station, it's easy to see why there is a long line every day at this iconic eatery in Osaka. The best breakfast ever. Thank you for the feast. #tomyamfoodie2023 #KansaiBlitzExpedition #OneFujisanShokudo #NikuSuiTeishoku #DashimakiTamago #KillerDishThatMakesYouSwoon #DrowningInDashi #WantToConnectWithPeopleWhoLoveDashi #yummyfile2023-126

I tried meat suki for the first time! I lined up 20 minutes before the opening and was fourth in line. Other people started lining up one after another, even though it was a weekday lunchtime. After waiting for a few minutes, I was seated on the first round (shared table since I was alone). The meat suki was served in a bowl as big as a ramen bowl and was delicious with a flavorful broth. It goes well with rice too! I was originally planning to order dashimaki as well, but the meat suki was already quite filling so I made the right decision not to order it! I want to try it again next time! Thank you for the meal ☺️

I was taken by my junior, but it was super crowded. We waited in a long line. I ordered meat skewers and rolled omelette, but the meat skewers had a rich broth and really gave off that Osaka vibe. Osaka's broth is truly delicious!! It was incredibly tasty. I understand why it's so popular. Thank you for the meal!

It was my second visit and since it was Saturday afternoon, there was a one-hour wait from the 11:30 opening time. Finally got in and ordered the popular meat-sucking set meal and rolled omelette. It was delicious as expected. The portion felt a bit large but I was very satisfied. Personally, if you come to Osaka, you should definitely go at least once, and the chicken cutlet set meal also looked delicious.

For about a year now, perhaps due to the influence of social media, there has been an unusual line at the local diner. Photos of dashimaki and nikumaki are often seen. Today, in the afternoon, after a long thunderstorm, I finally passed by around 6:30 pm on a Friday and surprisingly there was no line, with only 3-4 people inside, maybe because it was close to closing time. While the nikumaki and dashimaki are renowned and delicious, tonight I felt like trying something I don't usually order, so I went for the oyakodon as a single item. I also considered the udon, but decided against it. The dish arrived in a few minutes, simple and unpretentious, just like what you would expect from a local diner. The small side of pickles (lightly flavored) and miso soup were a nice touch. It's a comforting diner taste, with a dashi that's different from what you make yourself or have at home. Wait until halfway through to break the yolk and eat it. The staff chatting, the sound of the second hand on the clock, the TV that no one is watching. It had the relaxed atmosphere of the good old days. This is what I like. It's been a while since I could eat leisurely. While it's good for the restaurant to be busy, finding a pocket of time like this was fortunate. For first-time visitors, I would recommend the dashimaki set with a side of nikumaki. The nikumaki has a generous amount of tofu, so it's quite filling. You could also opt for a smaller portion of rice in the set, or share it between two people.

Visited around 11 am and there were about 6 groups of customers waiting outside. It wasn't too hot today, so waiting outside wasn't too bad, but it's still hot. Thankfully, there was a fan near the front of the line, which helped a lot. Thank you. Today, I had the meat-sucking set meal with an additional rolled omelet. Since I don't come here often, I can't choose other side dishes, but the rolled omelet is as delicious as ever. The broth is rich and irresistible. The meat-sucking dish is also well-seasoned and tasty. Hot food is good even in hot weather. I'd like to come back again. Thank you for the meal. ◎

Today's lunchtime was in the Temmabashi area. Just before noon, after finishing a job, I checked the opening hours of "Ichifuji Shokudo," a place I had been curious about for a while. Fortunately, I arrived just before the opening time, and despite the scorching heat of the sun, there was already a line of 12 people! I managed to squeeze into the first round of seating. Most people ordered the meat absorbent set meal and dashimaki tamago pair for 1450 yen. It took about 20 minutes for the food to be served due to the bulk orders. And finally, I came face to face with the dishes I had dreamt of for years. A plump, large dashimaki tamago and a bowl filled with meat absorbent. With rice added, it was quite a generous portion. The dashimaki tamago was exquisite, with a fluffy and perfectly cooked texture that was hard to lift with chopsticks. Using a spoon, I placed it on top of the rice, creating a fluffy and delicious egg rice dish. Even without soy sauce, it was delicious. Next was the meat absorbent. When sipping the soup, it had a taste resembling udon soup with a slightly spicy soy sauce flavor. It was a different taste from the typical Naniwa flavor, but the portion was generous. The tofu was also about half a block, and the amount of meat was substantial. The meat used in Kansai is beef, but some may consider it "cheap" or "common" due to the texture. As a bonus, an egg came out from the bottom of the soup! In any case, I topped these on white rice. The slightly spicy flavor paired well with the rice. I then topped the dashimaki tamago on the rice, and the large amount of rice quickly disappeared. It was as expected from a popular diner. Today, I am grateful for my healthy body.

I went in the evening on a weekday. The store opens at 5:30 pm, and there were about 5 groups lined up just before opening. Right after opening, there were still some tables available, but they filled up within 10-15 minutes. There was no waiting outside the store. It seems like on weekday evenings, if you're willing to wait a bit, you can get a table. This time, I had omurice and dashimaki. The omurice wasn't as big as I expected from looking at other people's photos, but it was still delicious and easy to eat. The dashimaki was a juicy rolled omelette with overflowing broth, and it was indeed delicious.

On a weekday in 2023.08.10, even though it was before opening hours, people were already lining up. I managed to arrive early and waited in line under the scorching sun, and was seated after the first round of customers. I ordered the classic Niku-Sui set meal for 1050 yen including tax, without green onions. I also ordered the Dashimaki for 400 yen including tax. Even dining alone, you end up sharing a table with others... which was a bit disappointing. The food was served promptly after ordering, and the portion size was generous. The Niku-Sui was not bad, but not incredibly delicious either. It was a bit salty. The soft-boiled egg was a bit firm, but the egg itself was fluffy and had a gentle taste. I managed to finish it all as it was quite filling. Thank you for the meal.

On a regular lunch day, I received an invitation from my partner. "Today, let's finally go to Ichifuji Shokudo and debut with Niku Sui~٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و♪ It's a must-try!" It has been 10 years since I moved to Osaka. I have become accustomed to the culture of dashi and sauce in my diet, but I have never experienced "Niku Sui." "Niku Sui" is considered a soul food in Osaka, which is essentially meat soup without the noodles, derived from the flavorful meat udon. It is said that everyone in Osaka loves it, but there are not many places where you can eat it! Only a few restaurants and diners offer it, so I have not had many opportunities to try it (ノ∀`)アチャー Today, I finally made my "Niku Sui" debut٩(。•ω•。*)و at the famous diner in Osaka Tenma Hashi-suji, "Ichifuji Shokudo." A red tent that forms a line is the landmark! In the midst of the modernization of the metropolitan city, a nostalgic diner stands alone on the corner of a 6-lane road with 3 lanes on one side. It has been buzzing on Instagram, and surprisingly, the clientele is mostly young people (⑅•͈૦•͈⑅) I thought there would be more middle-aged men at a diner, but there are many young couples and women. ◉Niku Sui Set Meal 1050 yen Rice, pickles, whitebait with grated daikon ◉Dashimaki Tamago (single item) 400 yen ◉Yakisoba (single item) 750 yen Dashimaki Tamago is reasonably priced, but the famous "Niku Sui Set Meal" is quite pricey (*´ω`*) Originally, it was born from the trend among comedians in Osaka to eat "meat udon without noodles" the day after drinking, hence the menu item. It has firmly established as a set meal with rice. The broth is rich with Kansai-style kombu and katsuobushi, with tofu and egg adding volume ♥️ The single item menu "Dashimaki Tamago" is hot and juicy! The "Yakisoba" is a Kansai-style dish with a sweet and savory sauce flavored with dashi, coating thick noodles. The naming of "Niku Sui" and the retro atmosphere of the "diner" are innovative. In addition to "Niku Sui," the menu is also diverse, so it seems fun to come with a few people and share. The excitement of experiencing something I have never experienced before, like an attraction, is not just me. Thank you for the meal~(*´▽`人)

I ordered the following menu items: Oyakodon (with miso soup) for 750 yen, Dashimaki for 400 yen, Nikusui for 750 yen, and Tonkatsu for 750 yen. This restaurant is located a 9-minute walk from Osaka Tenmangu Station, and it is a traditional diner. I arrived around 2 pm and there was no wait, so I could enter smoothly. The restaurant was crowded with many customers inside. The interior had rows of table seats, giving off an old-fashioned diner atmosphere. There was a whiteboard with daily specials listed. If you are dining alone, you may have to share a table with others. Since I went with a friend, we ordered a variety of dishes. First, the Oyakodon arrived within 5 minutes. The Oyakodon consisted of chicken, onions, and green onions simmered in half-cooked eggs, with a raw egg yolk on top. The half-cooked eggs had a fluffy texture and were rich in dashi flavor. Breaking the egg yolk added even more richness to the dish. When sprinkled with shichimi and sansho pepper on the table, it added a nice touch. The Dashimaki was soft and flavorful with a strong dashi taste. Although the surface was slightly firm, the inside was creamy and melted in the mouth, spreading the flavors of dashi and eggs. The Nikusui contained beef, tofu, half-cooked eggs, and green onions. While the Oyakodon and Dashimaki had a sweet dashi flavor, the Nikusui had a savory and slightly salty taste. The sansho pepper added a strong, tingling sensation. The beef was cooked sweetly and generously included in the dish. The half-cooked eggs were perfectly cooked, not mixing with the broth. The tofu was cut into large pieces, making the dish very satisfying. All in all, the portions were larger than expected, and I left feeling full. Thank you for the delicious meal.

After waiting in line for about 10 minutes, I entered the famous and delicious Itomi Shokudo. The restaurant was crowded, so seating was shared. I ordered the Meat Sucking Set Meal for 1050 yen and the Rolled Omelette for 450 yen. The Rolled Omelette arrived first, and it was delicious with a rich broth flavor, reminiscent of takoyaki. When the Meat Sucking Set Meal arrived, it also had a strong broth flavor. Both dishes were very tasty, but I felt that ordering two dishes with such intense broth flavors was a mistake.

It's quite a walk from JR Tozai Line Osaka Tenmangu Station to Ichifuji Shokudo. This popular Osaka diner along Temmabashi Street always has a line. Arriving 30 minutes before opening on a Saturday, there were already about 10 people waiting. Despite the scorching summer heat, I had already decided what to order. I got the Niku-sui set meal [1050 yen] and Dashimaki [400 yen]. Most people order this combination, as Niku-sui and Dashimaki are the specialties of the restaurant. However, there were also quite a few people ordering omurice or chicken cutlet. The dishes are made diligently at this old-fashioned diner, so it takes some time for them to be served. The turnover is slow, so be prepared to wait if you don't get in on the first round. The steam rose as my Niku-sui set meal and Dashimaki arrived. Niku-sui is like meat udon without the noodles, with tofu and egg added. In Osaka, people have the image of eating udon with okonomiyaki, rice, etc., so this Niku-sui is a fitting set meal. And then there's the other specialty, Dashimaki. The deliciousness of this dish explains why everyone orders it. It's so juicy with plenty of egg and dashi, a diner's version of Dashimaki that you won't find in a restaurant or at home. It's delicious on its own, but when eaten with the dried fish and grated radish that comes with the Niku-sui set meal, the flavor is even better. This old-fashioned diner offers unique specialties that you can't find elsewhere, and every menu item looks delicious, which explains why there is always a crowd. I feel like going back again and again. Having Niku-sui in the middle of summer was quite an experience, so I'll wait for cooler weather next time.

The restaurant is a bit far from the station and it can get hot in the summer, so be careful! I arrived at 6 pm on a weekday and luckily didn't have to wait at all! Everyone seemed to be ordering the dashimaki, and I was also interested in the omurice, but I ended up ordering the meat and tofu set with dashimaki. I thought I might have ordered too much, but the dashimaki was hot, fluffy, and delicious! The meat and tofu set had a gentle flavor with a perfect combination of meat, tofu, and egg. Surprisingly, I finished it all quickly. I would love to visit again! Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant with my colleagues and juniors during lunchtime on a regular day. We arrived 10 minutes before the opening and found about 15 people waiting in line. We were nervous if we would be able to get a seat in the first round, but luckily we did. I ordered the meat-sucking set meal for 1050 yen and added a dashimaki for 400 yen. It took about 15 minutes for the food to arrive. The meat-sucking dish looked quite voluminous. The dashimaki arrived hot and fresh. I took a bite of the meat-sucking dish first and found it to my liking. It was delicious, although I felt the soy sauce was a bit strong compared to Chitose's meat-sucking dish. This place focuses more on the dashi flavor, making it easier to drink. While the meat portion may be smaller than Chitose's, it goes well with rice. Next, I tried the dashimaki. It had a lot of dashi flavor and was quite different from the Kyoto-style dashimaki. The one here goes really well with white rice. It's no wonder everyone comes here for this. The restaurant's exterior, interior, and the atmosphere of the old lady give off a nostalgic Showa era vibe. The fried rice also looked delicious. I would definitely like to come back here again. Thank you for the meal.

A must-visit famous restaurant in Osaka, known for its set meal of "niku-sui" and dashi-maki. Owned by Hiroki Kato, a family-run establishment that started as a noodle and rice bowl eatery. The signature dish, "niku-sui," was born when Kato tried it at a noodle shop and created his own version through trial and error. Established in 1961, this historic restaurant exudes a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. Located near the Higashi-Tenmangu Shrine South Intersection, it is a 9-minute walk from Osaka Tenmangu Station. Operating hours are 11:00-14:30, 17:30-19:00 on weekdays, and 11:30-14:30 on Saturdays, closed on Sundays, holidays, and Wednesdays. With 32 seats, including 5 tables for 4 and 2 tables for 6, reservations are not accepted, so expect to wait in line. Popular dishes include the niku-sui set meal and dashi-maki, which I ordered. The niku-sui, a popular dish born in Namba, is a refreshing combination of beef, tofu, and half-cooked egg in a flavorful broth with a hint of sansho pepper. The dashi-maki, generously served on a plate, is more flavorful than usual and pairs well with rice. A must-try restaurant in Osaka.【Order】◻︎ Niku-sui set meal 1,050 yen ◻︎ Dashi-maki 400 yen

This was my first visit. I arrived before 12 o'clock. There were about 8 people waiting in front of me, but I was able to enter the restaurant in about 10 minutes. I ordered the Meat Sucking Set Meal for 1050 yen and the Dashimaki for 400 yen. The popular Dashimaki was fluffy and delicious, with a slightly rich broth that was tasty even without soy sauce. The Meat Sucking dish was also popular, with plenty of meat and a satisfying volume that could fill you up on its own. The meat was flavorful and delicious. I also became interested in other bowl menu items. I will definitely go back.

The restaurant is popular on social media for its meat dishes and dashimaki tamago. There were many young female customers. It's best to share a table when dining alone. The omurice is fluffy and moist, very delicious. Everything on the menu seems to be delicious. It's a great place that makes you want to come back again!
