TINTIN@呑んだ暮れ
This is my usual lunch. Due to the ongoing intense heat, my appetite has decreased, and I feel like eating cold noodle dishes that have a refreshing taste and cool down the body. I searched online for a restaurant that offers seasonal limited cold noodle dishes, and I decided to go on a lunch expedition to "Noodle FACTORY JAWS 2nd" near JR Tamatsukuri Station on this day. They are offering a limited-time cold tantanmen.
The restaurant is located in a shopping street near JR Tamatsukuri Station, on the west side, facing Tamatsukuri Nichinodori shopping street that continues from Tamatsukuri-suji. It is located south of the popular "onigiri specialty store Komedo." The exterior wall is made of exposed concrete, and the large single board sign on the eaves is a landmark. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with white walls and white wood, giving it a Japanese atmosphere similar to a small traditional Japanese restaurant rather than a ramen shop. It has a capacity of around 20 seats, including counter seats and table seats.
The owner, who is from "Menya Kagayaki" in Osaka Awaji, opened the main store in Uehommachi in July 2014. In the JR Tamatsukuri Station area, they opened a second store in October 2019, a tsukemen restaurant "Third" in September 2020, and "Zero" in Kyoto Ayabe in July 2022.

[Tofu Tantanmen]
In a white bowl, there is a creamy-looking white sesame soup with homemade spicy oil rich in oil covering half of it. The white sesame soup is garnished with crushed nuts, chopped purple scallions, and thinly sliced menma. There are plenty of white scallions in the center. When mixed well from the bottom, the soup changes to an orange color. The soup is made with several kinds of seafood, white sesame, and tofu milk, with a spicy homemade oil flavored with sansho pepper. The tofu milk makes it surprisingly light, and the aftertaste has the richness of white sesame. The spicy oil has more of a sansho pepper flavor and numbness than spiciness, but personally, I prefer it to be more numbingly spicy. The crushed nuts and chopped scallions not only add texture but also enhance the flavor. The noodles are thick, flat noodles, seemingly homemade. They have a good chewiness and firmness, and they go well with the tantan soup, providing a refreshing taste. Finally, I added a portion of rice to finish it off, which was enough for two bites.
I used to have the impression that cold tantanmen was inferior to hot tantanmen, but this bowl was incredibly delicious!
[Final Thoughts]
Although there was no line outside the restaurant, it was always full of customers, showing its popularity. It was nice to see that they provided frozen wet towels when I sat down. Everyone else ordered hot noodles, so next time, I want to try the Spicy Mazesoba that caught my eye. Thank you for the meal!
