A highly rated curry restaurant near Nishinakajima Minamigata Station. They are only open for lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Otherwise, they operate as an izakaya called "Wa Dining Shunka Fuyu." I visited for the first time on a weekday afternoon at the end of the year. I arrived at 12:00 and there was one person waiting outside. I waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. The restaurant has a L-shaped counter with 7 seats, 3 tables for 4 people, and 2 tables for 2 people. The curry arrived about 15 minutes after being seated. The curry options for the day were Spring Seafood Dashi Curry for 890 yen, Seasonal Vegetable and Tsukune Keema Curry for 890 yen, and Combination Curry for 990 yen. I chose the Combination Curry. The curry had a rich fish broth flavor. The fish included tuna and even blowfish! The keema was made with a similar recipe to the tsukune served at Wa Dining Shunka Fuyu, with a nice crunchy cartilage texture. The rice was cooked firm and mixed well with the curry. The paprika and celery pickles added a nice touch. The egg, resembling a soft-boiled egg, added a mild flavor when mixed in. Watercress and green onions provided additional enjoyment. It was a delicious curry with various surprises. The izakaya at night also seems promising. The menu includes Combination Curry for 990 yen, Spring Seafood Dashi Curry for 890 yen, Seasonal Vegetable and Tsukune Keema Curry for 890 yen, Rice (can be changed to tofu) for free, Large portion (rice or tofu) for an additional 100 yen, Tofu + Small rice for an additional 100 yen, Cheese topping for an additional 100 yen, Extra spiciness for free, and Bottled beer for 500 yen.

This is my first visit. Today, I ordered the Aigake with egg topping and extra spiciness. The seasonal seafood curry was a special with soft shell shrimp, dried shrimp, and other shellfish. I was lucky to have it at the right time! I started by eating it as is, then gradually mixed it together. I love broth-based spiced curry. Lately, I prefer the broth-based ones with a lighter texture over chunky spiced curries. It seems like they don't use strong spices, but the balance was perfect and delicious. The service was also good, leaving a positive impression.

Shunko Karai in Minami is a lunch spot that serves curry. Their menu changes weekly, and this week they had a special featuring shellfish like crab and shrimp. I was unsure of what to order since it was my first time at the restaurant, but I decided to go with the vegetable keema curry. Today's vegetables were moroheiya, winter melon, and burdock. I'm new to spicy curry, so I'm not sure about the taste, but I thought I should go for extra spiciness since I ordered it with a soft-boiled egg and mild spiciness. If I were to have it with tofu, I think the dashi curry might be better. Thank you for the meal.

What kind of dish is it? Seasonal vegetable tsukune keema! Made with seasonal fish and shellfish broth? Can't wait to try it! Ordered with a side dish. Topped with spicy horse sara (horse meat keema?). And changed the rice to warm tofu! First, the broth curry is light and delicious. The shrimp and clams, which you can eat with the shells, are a nice touch. The acidity of the pickles and the aroma of mitsuba are perfect! The spicy horse sara is delicious. I was told that it has low calories. I really liked the vegetable keema. A spice curry that I can recommend to girls without feeling guilty about enjoying it! Thank you for the meal!

I have conquered the top 100 curry restaurants on Tabelog, so now I am exploring highly rated curry restaurants that are not in the top 100. This time, I visited a restaurant with a Tabelog rating of 3.62 in Osaka. The location is at 4-5-4 Wise Court Shin-Osaka 1F, Yodogawa-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture. It is a 3-minute walk from Nishinakajima-Minamigata Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line. I arrived at the restaurant at 12:50 PM and there was no wait, so I was seated at the counter. The restaurant is spacious with many seats available. Looking at the menu, I saw they had a Chinese version of curry with options like "Mapo Keema with Firefly Squid Broth (Hachiku)" and "Chicken Shirodashi Curry with Firefly Squid, Bok Choy, Shiitake." The prices were 890 yen for a single dish (tax included) and 990 yen for a combination of two dishes (tax included). There were also various toppings available for an additional cost. I decided to try something new, so I ordered the Mapo Keema with Firefly Squid Broth (Hachiku) as a single dish, along with the topping of Spicy Horse Sausage. The dishes were served promptly at 12:55 PM. The Mapo Keema was not as spicy as I expected, but it had a rich and flavorful keema with a hint of Sichuan pepper. I stopped by for the first time because I had some errands nearby. The curry was delicious with a strong taste of broth rather than spiciness. I ordered a mixed dish, which seemed to be a themed menu. It was a lunch menu with a Chinese influence. I will definitely visit again!

Visited Shunkarou in Minami-Nakajima. Had the seafood broth curry with vegetable tsukune keema on the side, topped with a soft-boiled egg. The seafood broth was flavorful and spicy, with a nice kick. It was delicious with hotaruika (firefly squid) and hamo (pike conger) in it. The fact that you can get this combination for under 1,000 yen is a steal. Located a 2-minute walk from Nishinakajima-Minamigata Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line, it was my first visit in 2 years. I visited for a solo lunch on a weekday afternoon. I was seated at the counter by the staff and ordered the Aikake Curry: 990 yen with a large portion of rice: 100 yen and a hot spring egg: 50 yen. The dish arrived in about 10 minutes. The Aikake curry included two types (seasonal seafood dashi curry & seasonal vegetables and tsukune curry) with swordfish, firefly squid, and sweet shrimp for the seafood, and spring cabbage, lotus root, and bell pepper for the vegetables. The seafood part was a bit difficult to eat as the flavor of the firefly squid and sweet shrimp was too strong (it had a stronger scent than the curry's spices). Thank you for the meal.

Is it okay to call it dashi curry? It had a seafood-flavored dashi and plenty of crab in the curry, but it didn't taste much like dashi curry, it was a bit watery. A slightly thicker curry with more curry flavor would be nice. Also, it's a matter of personal preference, but I ordered the special curry with luxurious toppings for ¥980. However, there was a topping menu available only this week, which they change every week. The staff recommended it to me, so I added it for an extra ¥200, making it over ¥1000. The luxurious toppings for ¥980 were appealing. This curry might be recommended when you want to eat a light curry.

I had a combination curry. It was a mix of seasonal seafood broth curry and seasonal vegetable and tsukune keema curry. I topped it off with clam and shirasu jalapeno salsa. The curry was a bit spicy, and I couldn't stop sweating a little. It was delicious.

I visited during lunchtime. They serve spice curry for lunch and also run an izakaya at night. It seemed to be full right after opening, so I had to wait for about 15 minutes before getting a table on the second round. I ordered chicken keema curry and seafood dashi curry as a set, with a topping of marinated green chili peppers. The rice was intentionally cooked slightly firm to absorb the broth well. The seafood included sweet shrimp and oysters, cooked rare to enhance the juicy flavor. The high-quality seafood curry and the pleasant texture of the chicken keema complement each other. The spiciness was also increased, but it was just right to not overpower the flavors. Mixing them together brings out even more umami, showcasing the true essence of a set meal. This dish, made possible by their main izakaya business, is a fresh and sustainable masterpiece.

The sign at the restaurant said "Half Crabs, Golden Eye Snapper Inside," but it was closed today. I decided to go back and have curry instead. I added a boiled egg for 50 yen. The curry was very watery, almost like soup curry, with a mild spiciness and not much spice flavor. It wasn't the creamy type, but next time I'll try just the keema curry.

February 28, 2023, Tuesday. Holiday spice lunch!! Went for a solo lunch to Nishinakajima Minamigata. Had some business in Yodoyabashi area, and then headed to Nishinakajima Minamigata. Managed to arrive just before opening time, so I aimed to be the first customer at Top Gun, arriving around 11:40 am. No one else in line yet️✨ I'm the first one here (laughs). At night, it's an izakaya called Shunkasai. During weekdays from Tuesday to Friday, they serve spice curry as Shunko Karu during lunchtime. The curry doesn't use flour or butter. They opened at 11:45 am. I sat at the counter and ordered the Aigake curry for 990 yen including tax. Topped it with a hot spring egg for an extra 50 yen (from this day, the hot spring egg for Aigake is an additional topping). Also added the Ume no Koji Ebi Kozo for 300 yen. Asked for extra spiciness for free. On this day, it had my favorite mozuku❤️ in it!!✨✨ Premium early-harvested fresh mozuku from Izena Island. It's so delicious! I really love this one!! I can feel the freshness of the hotaruika and haru in it. The Ume koji pickled shrimp was refreshing and chewy, adding an accent to the flavor change❤️ It was so delicious that I finished it all in one go!! The best spice lunch! Paid in cash. They also offer takeout and delivery through services like Uber. Thank you for the meal!

On January 31, 2023, a holiday Tuesday, I took care of some errands in the neighborhood in the morning and then headed home. For lunch, I went to Shunkarou in Nishinakajima Minamigata for their curry. In the evening, I visited Shunkatou, a popular izakaya with a dual menu for different seasons. It had been a while since I had their curry lunch! The restaurant had recommended arriving after 12:45 pm for a more relaxed experience, so I aimed for that time. However, I got caught up in cleaning my house (bathrooms, toilets, kitchen, etc.) and ended up rushing to Nishinakajima Minamigata just before 1 pm! When I arrived, there were four customers at the counter and one at a table, and it seemed like they had been busy just a little while ago. Being a bit late turned out to be the right decision (laughs). The restaurant had a new setup with female staff in the front and two male chefs in the kitchen. They were both very friendly. Even at the later hours, with groups of four and solo diners, the place was still very popular! I ordered my usual favorite, the two-curry combo for 990 yen, with free extra spiciness (price increase is understandable). The topping I used to order, the spicy horse meat salad, was no longer available, but they had three limited-time toppings, so I decided to go all out and order all of them! I had the spicy potato salad for 100 yen, the drunken beef tendon curry for 300 yen, and the pickled mushroom for 150 yen. The curry that day was a luxurious one with two pieces of marinated amberjack from Himi, a premium brand. The seasonal fish broth curry had Himi amberjack, mackerel, and tilefish small fish, along with seasonal vegetables and minced chicken keema with lotus root, eggplant, and shiso leaf. I enjoyed both separately at first before mixing them together. With a soft-boiled egg, the spiciness was mellowed out. I felt like it could have been a bit spicier, but it was so delicious that I licked the plate clean! The total came to 1440 yen, paid in cash. It was a fantastic curry lunch on a holiday! Visited before 1 pm. There are 7 seats at the counter, 4 tables, and 1 table in the tatami area, but there are also unused seats. There were about 2 vacant seats. There are two types of curry using fish broth and tsukune keema, and they also offer a combination of both. You can add extra rice or spiciness for about 100 yen. By the way, the water is blended with sudachi, giving it a refreshing flavor that refreshes your mouth. The fish of the day was Biwa trout, beltfish, and shiba shrimp. The vegetables were nagaimo, persimmon, and kikuna. I ordered the combination for 990 yen. It arrived in just over 5 minutes. It also comes with a soft-boiled egg. The rice is default at 180g. The soup is set to be a bit more, and the chili spiciness is not strong. The umami of the broth is prominent. The texture of the vegetables is good, and the fragrance of kikuna matches well, expanding the depth of the flavor. The fusion of broth and spices was excellent. The food was delicious, but what remains in my heart is the service. The sudachi water and the heartwarming words from the staff at the time of payment. The curry with seasonal seafood dashi and the vegetable and tsukune keema side dish had a lot of vegetables, which was good, but I felt like the dashi and keema didn't blend well together. It's a matter of personal preference, but I didn't like the dashi flavor. I understand that it's a dashi, so it's supposed to be watery, but I barely felt the keema flavor. The spices were a bit lacking in both curries. I wish they had more punch. Thank you for the meal.

Located in Nishinakajima, Yodogawa-ku, Osaka City, "Spice Curry Shunko Karakara" opened in 2002 as a seafood izakaya called "Wa Dining Shunka Fuyu". Since June 2017, they have been serving wheat-free, additive-free, and butter-free spice curry during the day. Currently, they only operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In April 2019, they opened "Jukusei Sakana to Sake.jp Shunka Fuyu" near Hankyu Sojiji Higashiguchi, which operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with "Spice Curry Shunko Karakara" available only for lunch on Saturdays. They have won the runner-up award in the New Store category in the curry magazine "Ultimate Curry" in 2019, and in the Creative category in 2021 and 2022. The rice was firm and cooked with kelp and sake. The tuna meatballs were flavorful, and the onsen tamago (soft-boiled egg) was creamy and paired well with the keema curry.
