I tried a seafood bowl with sweet shrimp and scallops instead of surf clams, as they were out of stock that day. Personally, I prefer regular rice over vinegar rice for seafood bowls. However, the portion size was generous and worth the price of 1600 yen. I would like to try other menu items as well.

When I think of Tomakomai, I always crave for Hokkigai, so I ordered sashimi and butter sauté. Overall, the flavors were rich and went well with alcohol, making it easy to drink. There was more volume than I expected, and the freshness was delicious! I was very satisfied.

On the first night in Tomakomai. I visited an izakaya near the hotel. First, I tried the surf clam sashimi. It was full of umami when chewed. The ramen salad, with plenty of tuna and salmon sashimi, was a treat. The drinks like sours and highballs were a bit weak in flavor.

Next to the Genghis Khan restaurant, we couldn't get a reservation, so we went to the neighboring fish market. It was still empty because it was early. Since everyone wasn't very hungry, we ordered a little bit of everything. ★ Zangi 840 yen A visually stunning and delicious large zangi arrived! It was my favorite super crispy type, with a strong seasoning, and very delicious zangi. Even though it's a seafood place, the zangi was also delicious! ★ Salmon head miso soup 364 yen Only salmon and green onions. Unfortunately, this doesn't compare to the conveyor belt sushi restaurants. ★ Tuna and salmon hand rolls 580 yen There was more than I expected on the hand rolls, and it was a huge volume that made us wonder, "How do we eat this?" It was a tremendous amount of hand rolls that might be too much for a woman to eat in one bite. It was delicious. ★ Butter soy sauce grilled rice ball 345 yen The butter was already soaked in, but it was very tasty with butter oozing inside. It was my first visit, but my husband had been before and said that the seafood dishes he had tried were all delicious. It's expensive, but it was a feast. Thank you for the meal!

I stayed at a hotel and was looking for a place to drink on a Sunday, but couldn't find anywhere open. I ended up going into a random place and ordered a beer. I also had deer sausage and steamed shellfish with four kinds of clams. The deer sausage was okay, but it was hard to identify all four types of clams in the dish. The broth was tasty, but the portion of small clams was a bit disappointing for the price. Overall, I finished my drink quickly and left the restaurant feeling a bit unsatisfied.

Solo travel, first night. Entered a restaurant across the street from my accommodation at Dormy Inn at 5:00 PM. It was early and a weekday, so I was the only customer. All seats are non-smoking. I was seated at a table and ordered a beer first. This place is in Tomakomai, so I ordered Hokki fried clams and Tsubu sashimi. The Hokki fried clams were served first, but one fell on the floor from the plate as the female staff was bringing it to me. "I'm sorry! I'll fry another one right away!" I didn't say, "Well, of course! Hurry up, please!" Instead, I said, "No, it's fine. Don't worry about it." The next dish, Tsubu sashimi, came with a complimentary Hokki sashimi. They also gave me pickles as a service. I felt bad for making them feel apologetic. I wanted to go to the hot spring and had five jugs of beer before paying the bill. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

It's expensive. That's the first impression. The menu is generally expensive. So I thought it would be fresh, but it wasn't at all. I thought maybe it's because of the pandemic, but it's not at that level. The Genghis Khan was undercooked, the fried chicken was lukewarm, the ramen salad's noodles were hard, the only thing good was the oysters. But guess how much the seafood bowl in the picture costs? 3080 yen? Haha well, I won't be going back there again.

When I stayed in Tomakomai, I used this izakaya. I was hoping for more options nearby, but there weren't many. Since I was in Hokkaido, I wanted to eat seafood, so I chose this place. It may be a bit pricey, but I'm grateful that they were open.

This business trip took me to Tomakomai City in Hokkaido. A client who I had worked with in Sapporo was promoted and transferred to Tomakomai, so I had the opportunity to visit them. I arrived at JR Tomakomai Station at 8:00 PM, and as I stepped onto the platform, I felt the cold, harsh wind blowing from the sea, stealing away my body heat. Since it was located on the Pacific coast, the cold was quite severe. I checked into a hotel near the south exit of the station, dropped off my luggage, and headed out for dinner. However, by 8:30 PM on a Sunday night, most of the shops were closed. I walked towards Route 36 and explored the area known as the downtown district, but everything seemed quiet. Only two local pubs and a chain izakaya were open, so I decided to try a local pub called Tomakomai Fresh Fish Market. The interior of the restaurant was warm and welcoming, and despite it being a Sunday night, there were a few customers. Since I was alone, I was seated at the counter. I looked at the menu, which featured a variety of fresh seafood dishes. I was approached by a young waitress who asked, "Would you like something to drink?" I initially ordered a Sapporo Classic draft beer, but when I found out it was 550 yen, I changed my order to a Dewar's highball for 430 yen. I then looked at the menu to decide what fish to order, and I came across the "Soy" sashimi, a fish unique to Hokkaido, priced at 650 yen. I ended up ordering oysters, North Pacific clams, and Soy sashimi. The oysters arrived first, and they looked plump and delicious. I squeezed some lemon juice on them and enjoyed their succulent texture. Next, the North Pacific clams and Soy sashimi arrived. The clams were a bit pricey, and the Soy sashimi had a soft and sticky texture, similar to sea bass. After savoring the dishes and enjoying three highballs, I calculated that my bill would be around 3200 yen. I decided to stop there and asked for the bill. When I looked at the receipt, I noticed that the appetizer fee was 380 yen. I was surprised to find out that I had been served a tough seaweed dish that was overly salty. I paid the bill and left the restaurant, realizing that while the quality of the fresh fish dishes was good, the prices were quite high, similar to those in Tokyo. Overall, I would rate this restaurant as average. My exploration of Tomakomai continues. - King Nobu

I can eat fresh seafood! Ah, I feel so happy to be in Hokkaido~♪ Being in a port town makes me happy~♪ I ordered a variety of dishes, like a sashimi platter and buttered potatoes, all full of Hokkaido vibes!! Everything tastes so delicious and you can really tell how fresh it is! The grilled saury was also really good~!! They even had whale meat on the menu, but I didn't try it!! I ended up staying for 4 hours, chatting and enjoying the delicious food! Well, it's such a cozy place to be in. I might not get to visit often, but thank you Tomakomai!

Tomakomai left the hotel with two people at 8:00 p.m. Is it right in front of the hotel? It's almost right in front, a little diagonally in front is the "Seafood Market", the first place. Even though I drank beer quickly after taking a bath earlier, my throat is still dry and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I know that water is the only solution, but I don't want to use water to solve it. I just want to drink beer quickly, anywhere is fine. We were seated at the farthest table. It's the seat I least wanted in this restaurant, right in front of the kitchen and near the toilet. Why can't they guide us to a better seat? As soon as we sit down, we order two beers. We are slow in choosing what to eat, or rather, I am uncooperative, so we are slow. "Just leave it to me," I say, so they should just order on their own, but they don't. Why not? I don't eat things I don't like, that's why. If you don't like it, just decide on your own. But they don't decide because choosing is a hassle. We order "Hokki sashimi" because it's Tomakomai, right? They have a simple way of thinking. We also order "Rockfish sashimi". It's tastier in Abashiri, but they still complain. "Dashimaki tamago" is something you can eat anywhere, right? They just thought about it. I argue with them, but they don't understand. They just think what the restaurant serves is not to be denied. The "Dashimaki tamago" comes with grated daikon, which I find the worst presentation. They say, "They serve it everywhere," showing understanding. But I explain that the daikon juice will transfer to the egg and make it wet. They don't seem to understand. This dashimaki tamago is fluffy with a dashi flavor, and it's delicious. Have you eaten it already? I ate the other side without daikon. The sashimi presentation is sloppy, and the cutting is even sloppier. The rockfish smells like disinfectant. I understand their feelings, but they can't smell it. They say it's delicious. Hokki costs 800 yen? They are satisfied, but it was being sold for 150 yen per shell. There is no reason to be happy with 800 yen. It was delicious though. The menu is generally expensive. The background music is enka, which is outdated. Only someone like Koage-san would be happy about enka nowadays, right? Will you decide the evaluation after paying? Anyway, the uncomfortable feeling near the toilet makes me write this kind of review. I will leave after two drinks. The entrance is left open, so there are many small bugs flying around.

Today, the last day, I stayed at a hotel in Tomakomai, and tomorrow I will take a boat back from Otaru. So, tonight is the last day for alcohol in Hokkaido. Until around 5 pm, I was drinking alcohol in my hotel room. A little after 5 pm, I decided to go out for a drink. At 5:26 pm, without a specific place in mind, I entered a place called "Tomakomai Fresh Fish Market" because the name sounded interesting. The interior of the restaurant mainly had table seating, but there was also counter seating. Of course, being alone, I sat at the counter. - Assorted Shellfish (3 items) for 1944 yen: I started with hot sake and ordered the "Assorted Shellfish." I enjoyed the sake while having the appetizers. The dish included live surf clam, live turban shell, and live scallop. The presentation looked quite delicious. Very satisfying! - Senbazuru from Chitose Tsuru for 734 yen: After having the first drink, which was Otokoyama for 734 yen, I ordered Senbazuru from Chitose Tsuru as my second drink. I don't usually drink cloudy sake, but I found it quite delicious. At 6:40 pm, I paid the bill (3,824 yen) and left the restaurant. Later, I returned to the hotel and continued the drinking party in my room! When I came to Tomakomai, I knew I had to try the Hokkai shellfish, so I headed to "Daishu Izakaya Tomakomai Fresh Fish Market". I sat at the counter, started with a draft beer and a seaweed-like appetizer. Oh...they charge 380 yen for this appetizer, which set an unsettling tone. When I ordered the hokkai sashimi, they were out of the last serving. I added some amberjack to make up a serving. That made me feel like I had truly come to Tomakomai (laughs). They had a great selection of Hokkaido sake, so I chose the Kinteki Mizuhou from Shin-Totsukawa. Sake and seafood really go well together, don't they? I enjoyed the sake with: stem wasabi for a nice kick, small but flavorful oyster fry, and a large scallop skewer that smelled amazing even while cooking. Thank you for the meal!

Genghis Khan at Tomakomai Beer Garden was delicious! The vegetables had a good crunch, the meat was tender, and the rice cooked in a pot was tasty with flavorful broth. There are still more menu items I want to try, so I will definitely go back again! ^_^
