At the Asahiyama Zoo East Gate restaurant, they serve Genghis Khan and pork bowl. I like to put bean sprouts and sauce in the groove and cook it to my liking. I also want udon for the finish, to soak and enjoy. The pork bowl is the sweet and savory sauce type, which I also like. The terrace seats are comfortable. There is a drink bar available.

I visited the "Asahiyama Zoo East Gate Restaurant Kamuichikap" on May 28th for the first time. I had always seen the building where this restaurant is located, but it always seemed very crowded. However, today it looked empty! So, three of us went in for lunch at 12:20 pm. The restaurant's name "Kamuichikap" comes from the Ainu language, where "Kamui" means god and "Chikap" means owl, specifically the Blakiston's fish owl. But there are different interpretations, like "Kotan Korokamui" referring to the owl protecting the village. This reminds me of Golden Kamuy episode 119 (laughs). Now, what should we order? I remember there was ginger ramen at the former "Asahiyama Snow Village" restaurant. Let's see... Ginger Ramen x2 for 910 yen each, Beef Curry for 860 yen, and Sapporo Classic beer for 650 yen. We placed our order at the counter, paid, received a buzzer, and waited to be called to pick up our food. The seating was arranged to ensure social distancing, and we were guided to a sanitized table. The Ginger Ramen was a soy sauce-based ramen with toppings like sliced green onions, fish cake, bamboo shoots, and one slice of chashu pork. The noodles were thin and chewy, and the soup was not too oily. Mixing in the grated ginger added a sharp spicy kick. It was a satisfying meal. Before leaving, we had to exit the zoo area to receive a re-entry ticket, as this restaurant is considered outside the zoo premises. I remember getting a UV stamp on my hand at the exit in the past... Anyway, it was a good dining experience.

During the crowded Golden Week after Corona, make sure not to mistake the line for the neighboring store's beer with the line for this place. Just write your name and wait. Children's plate comes with free drinks and a postcard. The Genghis Khan curry is delicious.

Since I was in the Asahikawa area, I decided to order soy sauce ramen. I visited around 2:30 PM, so it was very empty. The noodles and soup were delicious for a food court. The chashu had a good balance with the oil and I liked it. They also had Genghis Khan-style menu items, so I would like to try those next time I visit.

I had the pork bowl 1270 with a draft beer! As it says, it was made with soft pork loin from Hokkaido, and it was thick and very tender and delicious. Eating at the zoo's cafeteria was a bit fun from noon. Lunch has to be delicious, right? This place is really good.

Restaurant located at the East Gate (on the highest ground). I wanted to try the Genghis Khan dish, but they didn't serve it during the winter season. However, I was in the mood for lamb! They had menu items where you could add lamb to ramen or udon, but I was feeling like having rice and lamb, so I chose the curry. The lamb was thick but tender and delicious. The curry was also tasty. The prices were a bit high... must be because it's a tourist area.

I am at Asahiyama Zoo. After enjoying the famous "penguin walk," I quickly visited a few places to avoid the lunchtime crowd and headed here early. Since I am in Asahikawa, I didn't hesitate to order soy sauce ramen. And when in Hokkaido, it's a must to have pork bowl. Oh, I'm tired from the uphill walk, so let's have a draft beer as well. The tour bus is cramped and not very comfortable, but I have to take advantage of not driving myself at times like this! When I finished my beer, the buzzer went off, so I went to pick up my dishes. The soy sauce ramen that came out had a clear soup and the taste was refreshing with a sharp edge, far from what you'd expect at a zoo food court. It seems that the standard for soy sauce ramen in Asahikawa is really high. Next was the pork bowl. It didn't quite compare to the one I had at Butahage Honten in Obihiro Station, but the thick pork and sweet-salty rich sauce still reminded me of it, making it stand out from your typical food court fare. As I was eating, a line quickly formed, so getting in early was the right choice! I also thought that waiting in line with my family might become a memorable experience in itself. Well, since I'm here, I might as well take another lap around! Thank you for the meal.

There was also a paid drink bar with a good selection of drinks.

I arrived at the top of the east gate of Asahiyama Zoo at 15:10, 10 minutes before the meeting time of the bus tour at 15:20. I could see the bus arriving outside, checked the time, looked at the restaurant menu, checked my stomach's condition, and purchased a pizza bun for 170 yen. There were also red bean buns for 170 yen and pork buns for 220 yen. I enjoyed the pizza bun quickly and felt a little warmer.

I went for lunch on Sunday and had miso ramen. I chose the regular miso ramen with added Genghis Khan. It was cold outside, so it was nice to warm up and it tasted delicious. The restaurant is located on the second floor near the East Gate, up the stairs from the main entrance, and the view was great.

Visited Hokkaido on the 3rd day of my trip on October 18, 2022. Took a bus tour with national travel support to Asahiyama Zoo and the Blue Pond in Biei. The weather wasn't great this time, but Asahiyama Zoo was the most fun. I got to see a polar bear with its cub, and seals up close. However, Asahiyama Zoo is all uphill. It's quite a workout. On top of that, it was raining mixed with sleet on this day. So cold. I decided to warm up with some food here, in what you would call a food court. I ordered the Asahikawa soy sauce ramen. It was around 12 pm when I visited, but it was a weekday and near the East Gate, so I was able to enter smoothly. And the taste? After having miso ramen at the airport as soon as I arrived in Hokkaido, and miso ramen in Susukino last night, maybe my taste buds were craving soy sauce ramen. This Asahikawa soy sauce ramen is delicious. It's not your average food court level. The noodles were chewy, the soup was refreshing. It also warmed up my cold body. The ramen in the photo may seem like any other, but please try it. It exceeds expectations.

Asahiyama Zoo is quite large. It's a bit of a climb from the main gate to the east gate, taking about two hours to walk. After arriving at the east gate around 11:30 am, I was feeling a bit tired and thought it was the perfect time for a lunchtime drink. Since I didn't have a car, I felt like having a drink at lunch was a special privilege! I got a re-entry ticket and headed to the restaurant inside the zoo. The restaurant is on the second floor and has a food court-like atmosphere. I ordered a local beer called "Ooyuki Beer" and some potato fries. The beer was rich and flavorful, and the potato fries were delicious. It was a great experience to enjoy a drink while looking out at the beautiful scenery of Asahikawa. I hope to visit again someday. By the way, they also sell soft-serve ice cream for 400 yen.

I came to Asahiyama Zoo on a trip to Hokkaido in early autumn 2022. Asahiyama Zoo is known for its unique "behavioral exhibits," where you can see animals behaving naturally. It is a famous zoo nationwide, covering an area of ​​over 15 hectares, equivalent to three Tokyo Domes. The zoo is located on a hill, so there is a steep slope from the main gate to the east gate, making it a good workout. The highest point in Asahiyama Zoo is the East Gate Restaurant Kamuichikap, which means "bird of God" in Ainu language, referring to the Blakiston's fish owl. I decided to have an early lunch at Kamuichikap. Since you have to leave the zoo once, you will need a re-entry ticket to use it. On the second floor, there is Kamuichikap's restaurant, a takeout window, and a shop called Teirun Teiru. The interior is a spacious area. After ordering at the register, you receive a circular buzzer to notify you when your order is ready. There is a terrace seat with a great view, so let's eat there. You can hear the cries of the white-cheeked gibbon's song up to this point (laughs). Genghis Khan Ramen ... 1100 yen (tax included) I was considering getting the ginger ramen, but I chose this one because it seemed to have a lot of volume. The buzzer rang after about 5 minutes. I went to pick up my order myself and brought it to the terrace seat. The base is soy sauce ramen typical of Asahikawa. It uses noodles made from Hokkaido wheat and homemade light soy sauce dressing. It is a new menu item using Kaneko Genghis Khan from Washin. A dream collaboration between Asahikawa soy sauce ramen and Genghis Khan. The clear dark soy sauce soup and wavy yellow medium noodles. Green onions, naruto, and Kaneko Genghis Khan. The lamb meat has a satisfying texture. It's really delicious with the authentic taste. The slightly firm noodles are chewy. I should have added 100 yen for extra noodles. The temperature at this time is 19.4°C. It's 10°C cooler than Kansai. The warm Genghis Khan ramen was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

In the summer, Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido is a popular spot where you can enjoy grilling your own Genghis Khan (Mongolian barbecue) on the terrace, which is usually closed in winter. They serve traditional Genghis Khan made with marinated mutton, not the trendy raw lamb or salt and pepper style. Other winter-only restaurants are also fully open, creating a lively atmosphere. It's a shame that not many people visit in the winter. Due to the pandemic, the direct bus from Asahikawa Airport has been discontinued, and taking a taxi costs around 5,000 yen. Asahiyama Zoo, which has faced challenges, is now thriving with the help of the newly born polar bear cub, Piriko, now known as Yume-chan.

I had lunch at the food court located at the east gate of Asahiyama Zoo, exactly halfway around from the main entrance. I ordered the unique menu item called Genghis Khan Udon, which is a Hokkaido-style dish with sweet and rich broth topped with Genghis Khan (grilled lamb). It was my first time trying Genghis Khan, and the chewy meat was delicious. The combination with the udon was surprisingly good and tasty. They have other interesting menu items as well. It was a perfect lunch option.

We were planning to stay close by during the latter half of Golden Week in Asahikawa, but out of the blue, we decided to go to Asahikawa. It was a totally unexpected short trip. We ended up going to Asahiyama Zoo, which I had been wanting to visit, so it was a pleasant surprise. We parked at the East Gate, which was easy to find, and walked towards the main gate while watching the animals. We didn't see the animals and shops on the way back. Along the way, we were told, "You can have a beer at the restaurant at the East Gate." That really boosted our energy, and we even said, "We can share something to eat." But then we were told, "Just get a takeaway beer because we're going to eat soon." It was served in a paper cup and cost 600 yen. It disappeared in no time, especially after all the walking. The pouring technique was excellent. You can't enjoy a classic beer without a good pour. I love this beer, so I probably appreciate it even more.

Despite the self-service format where customers have to pick up their own dishes, the turnover rate was very slow, and even though there were empty seats, we were not seated promptly. After waiting for about 30 minutes, we were finally able to enter. The Genghis Khan ramen we ordered was particularly delicious, especially the Genghis Khan meat. They also offered Genghis Khan as a standalone dish, which might have been a good option as well.

I visited Asahiyama Zoo for the second time in March 2022. It was still cold in March, with temperatures dropping to around -10°C in early March. I dressed warmly, but it was not a problem at all. This was my second visit, so I tried a different restaurant this time. The restaurant is located furthest from the main entrance where the bus stop from Asahikawa Station is, and you have to walk up a hill to get there. There is a shuttle bus inside the zoo from the middle of the hill, so if you are not confident in your legs, please use it. I also took it on the way back. To enter this restaurant, you have to leave the zoo once. So please get a re-entry ticket at the exit. It is a self-service type of restaurant where you order and pay at the entrance. Drinks are served immediately, but for food, you will be given a buzzer. In the summer, you can also enjoy Jingisukan from Wasabi's Kaneko Seiniku store on the terrace. ●Jingisukan Curry ¥1050 ●Curry Bread (2 pieces) ¥500 I had a big breakfast, so I shared curry and curry bread with my friend. The curry bread was fried after ordering, so it was served hot and crispy! The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was not too spicy, so even children should be fine. My friend chose the Jingisukan curry, but we ended up sharing because it was so good! The Jingisukan was slightly sweet, but there was plenty of meat. The curry was just spicy enough, and personally, I really liked this curry. ●Sapporo Classic Beer ¥600 ●Free Drink ¥300 I had beer, but my friend had a free drink.
