It was around 8:30 PM on a weekend when I visited the restaurant. There were two people waiting outside, and after about 10 minutes, we were seated inside. The restaurant only had a counter, and it was lively with groups of people chatting. We had to verbally order drinks and write down our food orders on a piece of paper to hand to the staff as there were no order sheets on the tables. The prices for both drinks and kushikatsu were reasonable. The kushikatsu tasted delicious, with a light batter and sauce. The shrimp had a thick batter and was tasty, while the crab claw was meaty and flavorful. The half-boiled egg had a hot batter and a runny yolk, which was delicious. The dotenabe had a slightly sweet taste with a tender texture, and even though I ate a lot, I didn't feel heavy afterwards. Everything was delicious, and I ended up focusing more on the food than the drinks. The friendly atmosphere of the staff also added to the popularity of the restaurant. It's a great place to eat!

All items are fried after receiving the order, so they are crispy. They fry just one skewer at a time, so you can enjoy a variety. The skewers are all cheap. There was a wait of about 30 minutes before entering the restaurant, with a wait for 2 groups before entering. There are also menu items other than skewers.

There is a kushikatsu restaurant in the Shinsekai area, but Hige Katsu in Hanazonocho also has a strong following as a famous shop. Even if you arrive around 5:00, there may be a short wait, but people wait quietly. Not many people take a long time, so the turnover is fast. You write your order on a piece of paper and hand it over, similar to Yaekatsu. The doteyaki is also popular. When leaving, there was already a line forming.

When I arrived just before the opening, there were more people than usual in front of the restaurant... There were no usual reservation papers, and they were using a call-in system instead. They said it would take about an hour, so I went to another restaurant to kill time. This was the first time for me! But it's okay because you can go for a drink while waiting (laughs). The kushikatsu I had after the wait was exceptional! I've already had beer, but it was worth it (laughs).

On this day, after visiting USJ, I went to Hige Katsu, located a few minutes from Hanazonocho Station. When I entered the restaurant, it was full. Luckily, someone was leaving and I was able to get a table after waiting for 2-3 minutes. The restaurant continued to be full as more customers arrived. It seems to be a popular spot loved by locals. We ordered our drinks and skewers by filling out an order sheet and waited. We ordered various skewers like katsu, potato, cheese, sausage, onion, squid, quail, lotus root, mackerel, sand liver, shrimp, shiitake, chicken with green onion, and chicken wings. The katsu was perfect in size and fried to perfection. The vegetables were sweet and delicious. The shiitake mushrooms were thick and flavorful. The chicken wings were tasty and went well with beer. They served the skewers at a pace that matched our eating speed, which was nice. I couldn't mention all the skewers we tried, but they were all delicious. I usually like Yacco in Shinsekai, but now I also like Hige Katsu. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this famous kushikatsu restaurant "Higekatsu" located about a 3-4 minute walk from Hanazonocho Station on the Yotsubashi Subway Line. Although I had tried to visit before, the restaurant was always full, but this time I finally managed to get in. It was a Thursday night around 9:15 pm when I visited, and there were a few customers already seated at the counter. I ordered a bottled beer and doteyaki as starters, and then proceeded to order various kushikatsu items. The total bill came to ¥2,860 including tax. The doteyaki was delicious with a slightly sweet miso flavor, and the kushikatsu items like beef cutlet, horse mackerel, lotus root, and eggplant were all tasty with a light and crispy batter. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and nostalgic, making it a pleasant dining experience. I would definitely visit again if given the chance!

I finally made my first visit to Hige Katsu, which is one of Ten-san's favorite places at Mairevi! It was relatively close, but I kept putting it off and ended up waiting for 6 years after it became a BM haha. My partner and I decided it was a good day to go, so we stormed in together! We arrived around 6:30 pm on a weekday, and luckily there was a seat available. First, we ordered some draft beer to start off with, and then we filled out the order form to pass on. This time, we tried... - Doteyaki - Kushi Katsu - Scallop - Asparagus - Shrimp - Pork - Squid - Conger eel - Chicken mino - Octopus - Hanpen fish cake - Highball Doteyaki is mainly made of Achilles tendon simmered in white miso, which has a chewy texture and tastes great when sprinkled with shichimi pepper. It's sweet and savory, and goes perfectly with beer. It's full of collagen, so it's definitely popular with women. The kushi katsu had a thin crispy coating and a good crunch, with a nice fatty taste and a smooth texture. The slightly sweet sauce also paired well with it, and you could eat as much as you wanted. Everything was delicious, but I particularly liked the satisfying shrimp and conger eel, the delicious asparagus even without sauce, and the perfect combination of sweet hanpen fish cake with sauce. The cost performance is also quite good, much cheaper compared to the average price of kushi katsu places in Shinsekai. It's no wonder Mairevi-san keeps coming back here. My partner also really liked it, so we might visit here regularly. Thank you for the meal!

I learned about this place from locals and it's a cozy and delicious kushikatsu restaurant in the downtown area. When I called, it was already packed but luckily I managed to get in at the right time! The atmosphere was great and I even got complimented by the man next to me saying "lucky you" haha. The kushikatsu was light and crispy, and I ended up having two highballs before the skewers arrived. I enjoyed 15 skewers and their specialty doteyaki.

I was told to bring my friend to this place, so here I am! My friend arrived a bit late, around 7:30 pm, and there were already five groups waiting in front of the store. It seemed like there would be a bit of a wait. We managed to wait patiently. The place was packed inside. We started with 20 skewers to share, so we each had 10. We tried various skewers like the famous konjac skewer while waiting. The place was still crowded, and we ordered crab claws, asparagus, quail eggs, and cheese for our first round. As usual, the large and tender asparagus here is the only one I can eat despite not liking asparagus in general. While eating the quail eggs, I wondered if someone would say something to me. We ordered another round, but they were out of 15 skewers, so we settled for 12. We had squid, shiso-wrapped chicken, Vienna sausages, and mochi skewers. My friend was also satisfied and ate to his heart's content. We only went to one place tonight. Thank you for the meal. (05/13/23 Update)

This is my favorite kushikatsu restaurant. When I go to eat kushikatsu, I always come here without thinking of going elsewhere. The quail egg is a must-have for me, but this time I tried the half-boiled egg after a long time and it was delicious. Last time, the master told me they have a large size chu-hi, so I tried it this time.

When I asked my second daughter who came home what she wanted to eat, she said "Egg sandwich (Lucky)". Oh, I'm tired of that already. The next option, kushikatsu. Yae Katsu? Hige Katsu? I decided to go around 8 pm, but there were more than 20 people waiting ahead of us. We finally got in after about an hour. We ate a lot today, as usual. Please refer to the images for details. When I saw my daughter drinking alcohol, the owner's wife said, "Oh, you can drink alcohol already. You're fast." Yes. She used to always happily receive a Peko-chan candy from the owner on her way out. Kushikatsu is delicious no matter what you eat. Especially the shrimp, sardine, and asparagus. And you can't miss the octopus and chicken with green onions. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I was the first one in line when the restaurant opened! It was my first time. When I asked the staff if it's common for there not to be a line, they said, "It's like this on cold days, haha." But it quickly filled up. The food is delicious! Today, the sauce seemed a bit lighter, but still tasty. I really like the chicken thigh skewers, so I ordered them twice today!

On a regular day in the middle of the week, I arrived before the restaurant opened but there was already a line. I couldn't make it for the first round, so I waited for about 40 minutes. I managed to get a seat at the back and enjoyed my meal calmly. Once again, I ate a lot. I had 3 skewers, grilled chicken liver, grilled chicken with leeks, grilled octopus, crab claws, grilled sardines, lotus root, shrimp, asparagus, potato, konjac, and pickled daikon. I also had skewers with cheese and mochi, and had two glasses of draft beer. I also ordered takeout because if I eat at the restaurant, I get full quickly and can't eat as much. There was a slight delay in additional orders, probably because I also had a refill of draft beer. By the end, I was on the verge of bursting from being so full. I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

I can't leave out the kiss. I'll have it with salt and pepper. And also the chicken thigh! I'll have that with salt and pepper too, but it's so delicious it's dangerous! It's a must-have. This time I ordered it twice, and my mom laughed and said "You really like the thigh, huh?" Well, the other skewers are delicious too, but the thigh is my favorite!

Today, I came to "Hige Katsu" to eat the famous Osaka dish, kushikatsu. It's located about a 10-minute walk west from Haginochaya or Hanazono station in Nishinari. This place is a great restaurant where everything is delicious and affordable. I've been here multiple times and the Doteyaki is especially amazing!

Before going on a business trip overseas, I decided to study here. I arrived around 7 pm on a weekday and there were 5 groups ahead of me. I wrote my name on a piece of paper and waited as the turnover seemed fast. Some people even came by taxi, which raised my expectations. When my turn came, I entered the lively restaurant filled with people of all ages and genders. I ordered a draft beer and some deep-fried skewers. The skewers were all fried perfectly crispy and juicy, especially the seasonal "pufferfish" which was incredibly delicious. It's no wonder there was a line! Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Here in Osaka, I exited from the 4th exit of Hanazonocho Station and walked along the alley, then turned right at the end. Around 7:30 pm on Friday, there were about 10 people waiting, and I waited for about 40 minutes before entering the restaurant. I ordered a bottled beer and started with doteyaki. There was no unpleasant smell, but it lacked flavor, and the white sauce was quite sweet for my taste, so I gave up halfway. It's a matter of preference though. Then I tried the kushikatsu. I ordered skewers of kushikatsu with onion, mochi, and cheese. The batter was light and crispy. It felt somewhat healthy, but lacked a punch for a casual dining place. It doesn't have the deliciousness of high-end kushikatsu restaurants that highlight the ingredients. Personally, I might prefer the kushikatsu from a famous restaurant in Shinsekai. Overall, it's decently tasty, but would I wait in line to eat here again? Hmm, maybe not.

Located a 5-minute walk from Hanazonocho Station, this long-established kushikatsu specialty restaurant in Nishinari offers skewers starting at just 90 yen each, making it very affordable. It's a super popular spot, with locals making up most of the clientele. Reservations cannot be made over the phone, so you have to go to the restaurant in person and wait in line. You need to write your name and number of people on the reservation board outside the restaurant and the wait can be up to 2 hours. Be sure to be present when your turn comes up, or you'll lose your spot. Going around 9 pm on weekdays can help you avoid the long wait. The last order is at 10:30 pm, but the restaurant may close early depending on how busy it is. If you go near closing time, there may be items sold out. The restaurant has only counter seats with skewers lined up in front of you. You order by writing on a paper on the table. I had a beer, shochu, kushikatsu, nasubi, doteyaki, tulip, geso, hampei, ebi, and more, totaling 3520 yen. The specialty doteyaki is a creamy and slightly sweet white miso dish served on a plate with a toothpick. The cow tendon meat is tender and collagen-rich, and the konjac is a perfect match with the miso. The kushikatsu is dipped in sauce and cabbage is provided for free as a brush if you run out of sauce. There are over 40 types of skewers available, including vegetables, fish, seasonal items, and chicken. The freshly fried kushikatsu has a light batter and generous portion. The nasubi was particularly delicious and highly recommended. This hidden gem is a must-visit spot in Osaka with a great atmosphere and traditional kushikatsu experience. Check out their Instagram @moritapan7 for more information.

Hige Katsu in Nishinari Ward, Osaka is a popular skewered cutlet restaurant located in a residential area. I visited around 8 PM on a weekday and the place was bustling with new customers coming in one after another. It was a live experience to see the skewers being fried right in front of you. Their Doteyaki is made using only beef Achilles tendon, resulting in a unique and delicious taste. It has a sweet flavor with a hint of white miso. The skewered cutlets were also delicious. I definitely want to visit again.
