Shonan Crystal Hotel is the only resort-style city hotel in Fujisawa. As of May 3, 2019, it has no ratings on Tabelog and just one review. Located inside Shonan Mall Fil, "Waku Waku Hiroba" rated 3.01, offers a variety of baked goods. This area mainly features breads from several local bakeries in the Shonan region. Notable places include:
- Bourangerie YUI - 3.51, Fujisawa City, Karasawa
- Uruusu - 3.25, Fujisawa City, Kugenuma
- Loir Kōgetsu-dō - 3.06, Fujisawa City, Nagago
- CHOU CHOU - 3.08, Kamakura Deepzawa
- Bakery For Shonan - 3.05, Fujisawa City, Tsujido
By the way, has "Karahae" disappeared? They opened at Terrace Mall but then quickly stopped their sales… it's quite disappointing. Upon researching, it seems they went bankrupt. I used to visit often, so it feels like a reminder of the impermanence of things.
In place of that, a newcomer to the scene is the bakery section from "Shonan Crystal Hotel." It is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Fujisawa Station and is the only resort-style lodging in the city. With the Fujiwara Grand Hotel closing down at the north exit, it seems to be a rare lodging option that isn't just a business hotel. The hotel features European-style architecture and has a church annex, making it popular for weddings. Inside, there’s a Chinese restaurant called "Suishō" rated at 3.03.
However, besides my review, there are no others… so I wonder if everything will be alright. Their homemade bread is showcased in this corner, including the staple "pan de mie" as well as sweet breads like anpan and melon bread. Among these, I picked up the "Fromage Noix" priced at 160 yen plus tax. This is a walnut bread filled with cream cheese and baked with honey drizzled on top. The dough is not hard but rather soft.
I didn’t really sense any differentiation from regular town bakery offerings; it felt quite ordinary. The cream cheese and honey didn’t particularly stand out either. Still, the level of individual bakery shops has risen tremendously, and honestly, this one tends to get overshadowed. The bread market here is fiercely competitive!
