Today, I came to the area around Sapporo Station for my girlfriend's hospital visit. As usual, the wait time at the pharmacy was long, so I decided to explore and find somewhere to have lunch during that time. It was crowded everywhere due to lunchtime, with long lines forming. After wandering around, I saw the word "legend" in the distance. There were some empty seats inside, so I decided to have lunch there today. It is said to be famous for its generous portions, but from the samples outside, it didn't seem like a lot. Unaware of the legendary trap, I purchased the "Suta Don (with miso soup and raw egg, extra rice/850 yen)" from the ticket machine, and my girlfriend, who had used this place before, oddly worried, "Are you really okay with extra rice?" She knew how much they served from her previous experience. Laughing, she decided on the "Salt Suta Don (with miso soup and grated yam, regular size/860 yen)" and handed the ticket to the staff before sitting down. The spacious interior with high ceilings was very comfortable, and as I looked around, I noticed some text on the wall. My gaze stopped at one passage: "Regular size is equivalent to three rice bowls." Really? While contemplating various things, my girlfriend's Salt Suta Don arrived in about 5 minutes. It was much larger than the sample outside... I was slightly shocked. Then, the Suta Don with extra rice was brought to me, and even from a distance, I could tell that the amount was odd. What appeared in front of me was a large bowl filled with pork rice. The amount of rice was incredible! However, the intense garlic aroma was stimulating my appetite. Following this appetite, I decided to dig in! The simple miso soup with wakame seaweed and green onions was well-seasoned with a comforting taste that warmed my stomach and body. Now, I lifted the heavy bowl and dug into the legendary Suta Don! The pork belly, stir-fried with a garlic soy sauce, was rich in flavor without any strong taste. The meat was tender and juicy, and the incredibly delicious garlic soy sauce made the rice irresistible. At first, I thought there was not enough meat for the rice, but the garlic soy sauce played the role of a perfect side dish. Hokkaido's famous pork rice from Obihiro is made by coating pork loin with a thick sweet and salty sauce, but the Suta Don's pork rice is completely different and quite addictive. As I reached the regular size, I added the raw egg and tried it. The smoothness of the yolk combined with the dish, making it even better. I couldn't help but finish it all in about 10 minutes. I also tried my girlfriend's Salt Suta Don, which she shared with me. It was lighter than the regular Suta Don, with a smooth texture thanks to the grated yam, making it very easy to eat and more suitable for women's taste. I initially thought the place would be popular with tough guys or male students, but the restaurant was bustling with customers of all ages and genders, with a few solo female customers as well. The student couple at the next table was enjoying the Sutamina fried chicken rice bowl! The atmosphere of the restaurant and the ease of eating seemed to have attracted more repeat customers. On the subway ride home, even with a mask on, I was worried that my garlic smell might bother the people around me, so I thought maybe I'd had enough of the Suta Don for now. But two days later, my body was craving it again, haha. Next time, I want to try the ginger rice bowl or the kimchi Suta Don with extra rice. I'll definitely go back for more and fill myself up! Thank you for the meal!
