I won't talk much since it's a revisit. I met a family from another continent and a couple I know. It seems like there are others planning to eat eel on Christmas Eve (lol). By the way, I got a free voucher for one serving of eel as a prize at some party, so this time I only paid 650 yen for beer. You can choose between Asahi or Sapporo beer. It was delicious as always.

Here is an example of a banquet for 7,000 yen (with all-you-can-drink option). The menu includes eel, bone senbei, grilled eel, deep-fried crab, eel in Yanagawa style, and eel rice bowl (3/4 portion). The price is negotiable and the content can be adjusted to suit your budget. Just provided as a reference.

The son of the head chef at Classe in the Yuan Dynasty took over and introduced a new "lunch eel" menu. The dishes seem to be a collaboration between the father and son, with perhaps the pickles made by the mother. The salad vegetables are now cut more elegantly, the sashimi is more luxurious, and the miso soup has a different flavor. Although the bone crackers are no longer included, the eel is tender and delicious, reflecting the recent rise in eel prices. Despite the price increase to 2500 yen, the meal is satisfying with a variety of dishes included. The simmered dish has a nice texture and rich flavor.

I went to Shiomie, the only place in Otaru that serves live eel. It is located just down the street from Hanazono Intersection. The building is called Shiomie Building, next to Shiomie Chiropractic Clinic. I asked the owner, and he said it used to be a sushi izakaya, but now they only serve eel. The poster was made by the owner himself. Today's eel comes from Miyazaki and is in a tank. It's about a 5P size. The menu only has eel rice bowls, with a large size having one eel and a medium size having 3/4 of an eel. It takes about 40-50 minutes, as written on the wall. While waiting, the owner gives you freshly fried eel bone crackers. The eel rice bowl comes with plenty of cabbage pickles, grilled eel liver, and soup. The eel meat and skin are tender, and the sauce is just right - not too sweet or too salty. The rice is not overloaded with sauce. The liver is grilled instead of being served as liver sashimi. It's nice that they prepare the eel in this way. The kind owner mentioned that there may be other eel restaurants in Otaru, but they might be the only one serving live eel. I often shop in South Otaru, so I would like to visit again. By the way, the parking lot is not in front of the restaurant, but a little further down towards South Otaru.

"Delicious eel"

Suddenly, I felt like choosing something other than sushi, so I ended up at a place in Otaru where they served eel bowls. Today's eel was from Shizuoka prefecture, and it was deliciously fragrant. I started with the eel bone, which was crispy and tasty, making me feel like I was replenishing my calcium intake. As I crunched on the bones, the eel and sauce were cooking, filling the air with a mouthwatering aroma. The eel itself was tender and flavorful, especially when eaten with the sauce and rice. The freshly ground sansho pepper added a nice kick to the dish. The eel bowl was satisfying, with a good balance of flavors and textures, and the side dishes of vegetables and pickles complemented the meal perfectly. The service was friendly, and overall, it was a delightful dining experience. If you're looking for delicious eel in Otaru, this place is a great choice.

In Otaru, I visited a seafood restaurant that is known for its eel dishes. The restaurant seemed new and clean, with a menu mainly focused on seafood. While waiting for the eel to be cooked (which takes about 40-50 minutes), I couldn't resist trying the oyster fry and crab shell tempura, which paired well with beer. Finally, the eel arrived - it was fluffy and delicious, although on the smaller side for a premium dish. The fried eel bones as a snack were also tasty. On my way out, I noticed a fish tank near the entrance, and the owner mentioned that eels have cute faces that they don't show before being eaten. It made me feel grateful for the meal. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience.

It's been a while since I visited during lunchtime. They now only accept reservations for even-numbered eel lunches, so I invited a colleague and made a reservation for our visit. We had salad, bone crackers, squid sashimi, clear soup, and eel. The live eel was so tender and delicious. I felt truly happy (^ー^) The pickled vegetables were homemade pickled herring, which was delicious with a light pickling. Due to the high price of eel, the price has increased from 1,800 yen to 2,000 yen, but the satisfaction is so high that it doesn't really matter.

High cost performance lunch Unagi at 12:30 with a reservation. This way, there is less waiting time! After all, it's a restaurant where they prepare the eel after you order. You can even see the eels swimming in the tank (laughs). Reservation is important. The salad is served first. It's perfect for a diet in terms of eating order. After finishing the salad, the main dish is served. Eel rice bowl (half portion), eel bone crackers, pickles, and soup. The freshly ground sansho pepper has a great aroma. The eel is soft and delicious, truly fresh eel! Thank you for the meal. Oh, you can use the parking lot of Shiomise Chiropractic Clinic.

In December 2015, I decided to go eat eel after hearing about a group of three reviewers who are known as "Team Small Eaters" and had eaten eel together. I couldn't let them have all the fun! There aren't many eel specialty restaurants in Otaru, so I ended up choosing a place called "Shiomi" after seeing a sign for eel outside. The restaurant was quiet when I arrived, and I ordered the eel rice bowl (3,500 yen). The eel bone tempura that came first was delicious, and then the eel rice bowl arrived after a wait of about 40-50 minutes. The eel was incredibly tender and flavorful, with a light and slightly sweet sauce. It was definitely worth the price, and I felt like it was a well-deserved treat for myself after a year of exploring and writing about Otaru's food scene. If you're craving delicious eel in Otaru, this is the place to go!

I had the pleasure of dining at a certain restaurant. This season, I have been eating a lot of eel, even at famous eel restaurants in Shizuoka. The menu that day was full of eel dishes from the start. The bones, rolls, and liver were all delicious and went well with the sake. The eel skewers were incredibly luxurious and delicious, and the fried eel shell was also incredibly tasty (even though it doesn't actually contain eel). Of course, I finished with an eel rice bowl, which was the best I've had in recent years. It was plump, tender, and full of flavor. Before leaving, the owner showed me a live eel, and I was completely satisfied with the authentic taste. I don't think there is a place in Otaru that can surpass this experience.

In Otaru, they offer sushi, seafood bowls (you can choose what goes in your bowl for the three-color bowl), and the homemade fried crab shell is delicious. In the summer, they prepare eel dishes by splitting live eels from the tank on the spot to make eel rice bowls (reservations recommended as it takes 40-50 minutes). They also fry the eel bones and serve them as crispy snacks. The grilled hokke fish is perfectly cooked, with the skin crispy and delicious, making it a recommended dish for fish lovers. However, it is a shame that they do not have a wide variety of alcohol. I wish they would stock various local sakes!!

The location is facing a one-lane city road, with a parking lot for a few cars located 100m south of the entrance. Access by car is good. I had the grilled eel and eel rice bowl (¥3,500). The origin and heat source are unknown. The category is farmed. It took 35 minutes from the tank to being served. The size of the eel was average for the price. It was thick and fatty, with a deep steamed and lightly grilled preparation. The skin was crispy and the flesh was tender. No small bones or unpleasant smell. The sauce was medium-thick and pure sweet without any off-flavors. The rice was cooked just right and the portion was standard. The sauce soaked in perfectly. It came with eel bone crackers, liver simmered in sauce, pickles, and eel soup. There were no flaws. It was a delicious eel rice bowl, a rare find.

August 2021, second time review. Since I missed out on eating eel on the midsummer day of the Ox this year, I decided to get some takeout eel now that it's cooler after the Bon festival. I ordered the large eel rice box for 4,600 yen. The price has gone up since the last time I had it in December 2015, when it was 3,500 yen. The eel was not as tender as eating it in the restaurant, but the flavor of the meat was almost the same. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the sauce had a slightly less sweet and more savory taste that complemented the eel well. The box also came with eel liver and fried bones, which were delicious. The paper towel that came with it was huge, showing that the price was justified. I'm not sure how long this restaurant has been around, but in the past, eel dishes in Otaru were mostly found in sushi restaurants. There used to be "Takoin" for oden and "New Matsushima" for traditional Japanese cuisine. "Nakamura," which moved to Teine, also had a good reputation for eel. Now, this place is the only eel specialty restaurant left, so I hope they continue to thrive for a long time.
