I visited the restaurant at 6:00 pm on a weekday. Located about a 3-minute walk from the subway station "Tenjinbashisuji Rokuchome Station," this is a renowned restaurant selected as one of the "Top 100 Asian Ethnic Restaurants on Tabelog 2022" (continuously awarded since 2019). The Tokyo Shibuya 1st store, opened in 1989, sadly closed in December 2020. The Osaka Tenroku store, opened in 1995, is a medium-sized restaurant with a total of 83 seats filled with an exotic atmosphere created by dim lighting. The kitchen was managed by 2 staff members, and there were 2 staff members for customer service. Here are the dishes I ordered this time, along with their reviews:
Tandoori Chicken Salad 770 yen - A spicy dressing with a strong pepper flavor served with a salad featuring small pieces of cold tandoori chicken as an accent, along with lettuce, bell peppers, green peppers, carrots, cucumbers, and onions. A truly ethnic dish.
Spicy Stir-Fried Pork and Vegetables 847 yen - A hot Nepalese pork and vegetable stir-fry served sizzling hot. The bulky pork, seared over high charcoal heat, was delightful, with bell peppers, green peppers, carrots, onions, baby corn, scallions, and green beans. A taste that truly feels continental and remains delicious even when cooled.
Chow Mein 990 yen - Nepalese yakisoba made with hand-cut noodles. The flat noodles, charred to a crisp, are generously mixed with vegetables. In the latter half, you can enjoy a flavor change by adding chili vinegar. Served with chicken, Chinese cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, onions, greens, and broccoli.
Malt Beer (medium bottle) 660 yen - Served in a metal cup, the beer was enjoyable.
The background music was Nepalese music! The clientele consisted of food enthusiasts (groups of men, women, couples, and young people). The restaurant was about 60% full, with women making up about 60% of the customers. The Tabelog rating at the time of the visit was 3.60. The restaurant's respect for Nepal was a bonus point. The atmosphere with cold winds coming in and cheap chopsticks added to the experience of exploring the food culture of an inland country that uses plenty of spices and oil. It was truly an Asian ethnic restaurant experience. Bon appétit!
