It's been a while since I visited Osaka! I decided to go on a food tour after 12.3 years. First stop, of course, had to be takoyaki. I visited a famous takoyaki shop that has been around since 1953. It's located a 3-minute walk from Tenjinbashisuji Rokuchome Station and a 5-minute walk from JR Temma Station. The shop has limited seating for about 5 groups, but luckily my friend and I managed to get a table. We ordered 16 takoyaki balls for 920 yen. The takoyaki was served without any sauce or toppings, but it was delicious with a strong dashi flavor. The owners were friendly and the experience made me feel the greatness of Osaka. If I have the chance, I would definitely visit again.

Accompanied a follower from Tokyo on a food tour, visiting three ramen shops before craving for takoyaki. We decided to go to the highly recommended "Umaya" shop. Located in the Oideyasu Shopping Street, there is a ramen shop I always pass by and love, but this was my first time actually eating there. We ordered 12 takoyaki to share among three people. We had them with sauce, but the broth was so flavorful that they were delicious even without it! Unfortunately, we visited during off-peak hours, so the takoyaki were cold and a bit tough. It's a shame, I wish we had eaten them when they were freshly made.

When you come to Osaka, you have to try some flour-based snacks, so I came to "Umaiya" in Tenjinbashi Rokuchome. The shop is located in an arcade shopping street. They have a food stall outside for takeout, but I chose to eat inside. It has a cozy atmosphere like a local diner. I enjoyed a cider while waiting for my order of takoyaki (8 pieces for 480 yen). The takoyaki looked small and cute, like mini cream puffs. When I bit into them, they were creamy and gooey inside, not crispy on the outside but fluffy. The flavor was simple but tasty, with a good dashi base. They were light and easy to eat. You can eat them as they are or add sauce for a more traditional takoyaki taste. It's a great snack option, especially for those with a small appetite. Enjoy with a fork, not a toothpick!

The outside is crispy, the inside is piping hot, and the broth is very flavorful, making it delicious on its own! The sauce is provided on the table, but honestly, you might not even need it! Eating with a small fork is also kind of cute.

I was lucky to find a table at one of the five tables available. The takoyaki was simple without seaweed or bonito flakes. The batter and sauce were light, and each piece was small enough to eat quickly. The texture was chewy. It was a unique takoyaki shop different from others, and it was very delicious.

Simple takoyaki that is so good without any extra toppings. It's the kind of taste that makes you want to come back for more. I like to eat it without sauce at first, then add plenty of sauce halfway through. It's not a standout takoyaki with unique features, but the consistent taste always makes me crave it. Their shaved ice is also top-notch! The atmosphere is nostalgic and creates a great dining space.

In the neighborhood of Tenjinbashi Rokuchome, the most famous takoyaki can be found here. Located in a prime location near Tenjinbashi-suji (main street) in the Tenjinbashi Rokuchome area, this place constantly sees guests coming in to buy takoyaki. I visited this place for the first time after moving to the Tenjinbashi Rokuchome area from Esaka about three years ago. Many guests opt for takeout, but there is also seating available inside the shop, so we decided to dine in on this day. The takoyaki was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, with a simple and rustic flavor. The takoyaki was cooked in a generous amount of oil, giving it a crispy exterior with an oily texture. The sauce added some contrast, but I felt like adding more spice like shichimi would enhance the flavor. Overall, it reminded me of the takoyaki I used to eat as a child, but as an adult, my taste has evolved. This takoyaki shop is a longstanding establishment, and while it may not match my current preferences, it represents the traditional Osaka flavor well.

The theme of this day trip in Kansai is to visit a new restaurant that specializes in flour-based dishes. After getting off at Tamatsukuri Station and eating at "Udon Izakaya Mugeshou," we didn't have much time, so we visited "Umaya" near Temma Station. I had 12 pieces of takoyaki for 720 yen. The outside was crispy and the inside was piping hot. It already had seasoning, but I found it tastier when dipped in sauce. Thank you for the meal.

I'm in Osaka for a few days, and even though I'm not really in the mood due to this intense heat, I decided to try some local street food in front of a hot plate. The obvious choice was takoyaki. I'm not a big fan of octopus in batter, but I knew of a famous local spot with a long history of serving takoyaki. The place was crowded with people waiting to eat in or take out. The owner asked me if I wanted to take it to go or eat it there, and how many servings I wanted. I decided to eat in, and after a short wait, I got a plate of takoyaki in front of me. Each serving had 8 pieces for 480 yen, but I wasn't sure how many servings I could eat. I ordered two servings, thinking I could probably eat 16 pieces. The owner seemed surprised at my order, but brought me one plate with sauce and one without. I found it easy to eat with a fork, even though I'm not used to it. The takoyaki was hot and delicious, and I enjoyed it with a cold beer while watching high school baseball on the TV in the shop. The sauce was just right, not too sweet, and I had to be careful not to burn my mouth since it was freshly cooked. It was a perfect summer experience.

The takoyaki from Osaka has a flavorful dashi taste and a strong saltiness, so it's delicious even without sauce. The inside wasn't too gooey, but it truly captures the essence of Osaka-style takoyaki! It would go well with beer too! The shaved ice was delicious in a traditional style.

- Takoyaki 8 pieces
For dining in, it's a one order system starting from 8 pieces per person! When you order, it is served in a plain state, and you can add sauce to your liking to eat ♪ It's a simple style, but crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, delicious‼️ It was quickly devoured w

This is also a shop that the old man has been running since I was a child, a nostalgic long-established store for my first post. Now it is managed by the son who is the third generation? and his mother. There seems to be only a helper on weekends and holidays. Takoyaki is 60 yen each. (As of July 2023) I ordered 18 pieces on this day. It was a holiday, so there was a long line from opening time. They continue to protect the unchanged taste with everyone. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

After peeking into Ibuki, there was only one takeout order ahead of me, so I decided to connect. They said it would take about 15 minutes since they had just started grilling. I was invited to wait inside the restaurant. The takoyaki was ready in about 10 minutes. It was wrapped in nostalgic light green paper, rolled up and secured with a rubber band, then placed in a plastic bag. It looked very nice. I decided to eat it at Senba Park. When I opened the paper wrapping, the takoyaki had a simple appearance with a light coating of sauce. The contrast between the firm exterior and the soft interior, along with the taste of the yellow fried batter, was noticeable. The octopus was small-sized. It was chewy yet light, and I quickly finished one, then proceeded to eat all 8 pieces in no time. I didn't really sense the dashi flavor mentioned in other reviews, but it gave off a sense of tradition or an old-fashioned taste. It seemed like a place that has been loved by locals for many years, blending into the community. If I happen to pass by and it's not too busy, I might stop by again.

The food had a crispy texture and was delicious! There was a bit of a wait after ordering, but it wasn't too long. The shop seemed popular, with some people buying in large quantities. I would definitely want to visit again when I'm in the area.

I really wanted to eat takoyaki so badly. I asked my junior from Fukushima (Osaka) to take me to the station and he took me there. The numerous weathered signs outside told stories of the past. Inside, there were many requests and then it was time for a takoyaki showdown. I saw a foreign female traveler on TripAdvisor coming alone. Impressive, haha. The warm takoyaki was filled with love from the locals. I hope they continue for a long time. Thank you for the meal ♪

I was born and raised in the Kanto region, but I love takoyaki. In Kanto, "Gindako" is famous, but I don't really like it because it's too greasy. So, during my trip to Osaka this time, I was looking forward to trying authentic takoyaki. Access from JR Osaka Station was good, and the closest place to my accommodation was the famous shop "Hanadako," but there was a long line. So, I decided to visit "Umaiya" in Tenjinbashi, a little further away. The store information stated "sold out when sold out," and I was worried because I visited in the evening, but they were still open and doing well. The owner was cooking at the storefront, and his wife was taking orders. There were no tourists like me, only locals as customers. They also had seating inside, so you could eat there (sharing was not allowed). I was planning to eat udon afterwards, so I bought takoyaki for takeout and enjoyed it at the hotel.
- 1 serving: 8 pieces (460 yen)
- The sauce was less than I expected, not as much as I thought it would be poured on. The outside was crispy, the inside was fluffy and gooey, and you could faintly taste the sauce. The dough was the main focus, more than I had imagined. Ah, I see. The takoyaki I had in its birthplace was delicious. Next time, I want to try various other shops. Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by this restaurant on the way back from my son's Kanji proficiency test. My son loves takoyaki, and he was immediately drawn to this place where they were cooking it right in front of the shop. It's located on the way from Temma to Tenjinbashi Rokuchome shopping street, near the kakigori shop. The shop, Umaya, has table seating inside and a stand for takeaway takoyaki outside. It's a traditional takoyaki shop with a long history. We ordered two sets of 8 takoyaki balls. They were small and round, very cute. The takoyaki had a crispy surface and were delicious. You can add your own sauce, and my son happily coated his takoyaki with it. The takoyaki were flavorful with a nice dashi broth, freshly cooked and piping hot.

Very simple! These Osaka takoyaki are smaller than usual, with a crispy outside and soft inside. For those dining in, they can choose to spread sauce on top, but I preferred mine plain to enjoy the taste of the broth. The sauce wasn't too strong and was delicious.

For a snack, I had takoyaki and beer. This place is a super old establishment that you come across when you pass through from Temma to Nakazakicho. The takoyaki here has a crispy outer layer and feels like the "original" style. The atmosphere is great, so maybe it could have been cider, juice, or milk instead of beer. Three drunk middle-aged men ordered 12 pieces, which is enough for two people. The rule is one plate per person, so the owner suggested getting 8 pieces for each of them. After some back and forth, they finally agreed on getting 8 pieces each. It was a very Osaka-like scene. The magazines placed on each table and the seemingly functional electrical outlets were also great.

There is no top 100 takoyaki shop, but if there was, this long-standing shop would surely be number one nationwide. Being number one in Japan means being number one in the world. Even at such a famous shop, you can get 8 pieces with a cola for under 1000 yen! I can easily eat 8 pieces. It's great to be able to stop by and satisfy your hunger. It's amazing that they have been able to maintain this popularity for so long.

I revisited the restaurant and ordered 12 dumplings for 690 yen. They were small but delicious, with a flavorful broth-infused dough. Personally, I liked that they were small because even when they were piping hot, the filling didn't ooze out too much, making them easy to eat. The friendly service from the staff was also impressive. It seems like this place is also featured in foreign guidebooks, as there were many international tourists dining there.
