Established in 1959, "Katsuya" is a long-standing curry restaurant in Namba. They have been serving curry for over 60 years. One of their unique features is their curry roux, which is made by sautéing vegetables like onions, carrots, garlic, ginger, and celery until they turn into a paste, then sealing and maturing it for about 3 years with added fruits. I heard that their beef cutlet is even better than their pork cutlet, so I tried the "Beef Cutlet Curry BW" made with top sirloin. The matured curry roux has a bitter taste at first, followed by spiciness and sweetness. The complexity of flavors and richness in this curry is truly remarkable. Although the cutlet seemed a bit thin at first, as I continued eating, it all made sense. The thick breading absorbs the curry, creating a unique texture that complements the dish perfectly. As I kept eating, I discovered various flavor changes and nuances, and I was completely engrossed. I was pleasantly surprised by how incredibly delicious Katsuya's Beef Cutlet Curry is. You must try it at least once!

I recently visited a restaurant that had been renovated in a different style. I ordered the tonkatsu curry B, which was as delicious as ever. The aged vegetables that can only be tasted at this restaurant have a rich flavor. Since I have moved further away from the restaurant, I also got a takeout curry (1100 yen). I will definitely visit again when I am nearby.

I visited the newly renovated store for the first time. I think the curry is not too spicy and has a fruity flavor. The cutlet is not too thick, making it just the right thickness to eat with the curry. It is soft and very delicious! I am really happy that they have reopened. I felt warm when they waved goodbye to me as I left.

I entered the restaurant at 10:30 am on a regular day and left at 10:47 am after finishing the Chicken Curry B (with chicken thigh) for 1500 yen. The appearance of the curry was impressive, which may surprise around 80% of people. It was a fantastic curry, although a bit pricey, the effort and complexity in it were worth it. I look forward to enjoying another meal here someday.

It's a bit difficult to get to because it's far from the station. They have a regular curry that's a little tastier, and also a special curry that costs over 3000 yen, but I'm not sure if I feel like trying that. If it were closer to the station, I might go back one more time.

The curry had a slightly sweet flavor with a rich taste. There was garam masala on the table, so if you feel the spiciness is lacking, adding some would be just right. I'm not a fan of spicy food, but adding a little was perfect for me. The staff may have a bit of a unique personality, but the taste is definitely spot on.

I tried popular restaurants like "Juutei" and "Zojirushi Shokudo" for a meal before watching the Grand Sumo Tournament in March, but both had a wait time of over an hour. So, I gave up and decided to try out this restaurant I had researched. It is located 500m further from Namba Station in the opposite direction of Edion Arena, along a wide road with few cars and pedestrians. We arrived a little before 12 o'clock. The restaurant has a traditional Showa-era appearance. Inside, there are counter seats facing the kitchen and table seats further back (seems like they expanded?). We were seated at a table quickly. My wife and I ordered the "Tonkatsu Curry A". Surprisingly, there were many female customers as well. The dish arrived promptly. The appearance was a classic "Katsu Curry". The spiciness was not too strong. The curry was rich and flavorful, well-cooked but not heavy. The thin pork cutlet paired well with it. The "Tonkatsu Curry" originated in Tokyo in 1918 at "Kawagane", but this restaurant, founded in 1959, proudly serves the "original Tonkatsu Curry". They developed a curry that wouldn't cause heartburn to go with the tonkatsu, and the process is quite elaborate. In reality, as the slogan suggests, the dish is topped with tonkatsu but it is light and delicious! My wife also enjoyed it. We were satisfied and had a great meal.

Visited before 2 pm. There are 15 tables in the restaurant. About 40% of the tables were occupied. It seems that there are more tourists than locals. Although they have pork cutlet set, the main dish is "cutlet curry". I ordered a regular cutlet curry (A) for 1200 yen. You can hear the sound of frying from the kitchen. I thought it would take a while, but surprisingly it arrived in about 7 minutes. The cutlet is cut into bite-sized pieces for easy eating. The curry is not too spicy and has a good balance. It's not too thick either. It's a well-balanced cutlet curry. The sign saying it's been simmered for a long time is true, as it has a deep flavor. It's not the most convenient location from JR Namba, but many people still visit because of the delicious taste. This is a restaurant worth visiting at least once.

I ordered Katsu Curry A. The katsu was thin and the overall portion felt small. There are different ranks of katsu and ebi fry available, so I would like to try those next time. However, I want to visit other restaurants as well, so it may be a while before I come back here.

It's a rather mysterious shop, located near the hotel where I often stay, and I finally had the chance to visit for lunch. Tonkatsu Curry B (Premium Pork Cutlet) 1500 yen, extra large serving +200 yen. Despite knowing that the weather was going to turn bad, I decided to go cycling to Tempozan. Along the way, I passed by Shitennoji Temple and Tsutenkaku Tower, but by lunchtime, I was starting to get hungry. I was in the mood for yakiniku lunch, but couldn't find a good place, so I checked on Tabelog and found this curry restaurant. The exterior had a nice, inviting smell of a great restaurant. Inside, surprisingly, the restaurant had a number of rooms and a decent amount of seating. The staff were wearing what seemed like Self-Defense Force uniforms, quite unique for a city restaurant. I was seated and ordered the Tonkatsu Curry B (Premium Pork Cutlet) in extra large serving. The price was reasonable, but I really wanted to try the premium pork cutlet. The dish arrived in less than 10 minutes. The curry had a rich, well-developed flavor and was delicious. The pork cutlet was also of high quality and tasty. The extra large serving was just right for me, my appetite seems to be increasing lately. It's no wonder this Namba restaurant is highly praised from all directions. Thank you for the meal.

The tonkatsu curry B was served incredibly quickly. The taste was so complex that I couldn't quite understand it, but it was delicious. The balance of sweetness, spiciness, and bitterness was perfect. It's clear that they have been in business for a long time, as the exterior has a lot of character and the restaurant is located in a residential area a short walk from the station.

It was a typical curry restaurant. I ordered half portion of rice with katsu curry. As someone who prefers thin katsu, I really liked it. There may be different opinions on the definition of katsu curry, but katsu curry should definitely have thin katsu. By the way, there is a famous restaurant called Madras nearby according to Tabelog, but I think it's worth walking about 10 minutes from Namba station for the first time. The sign saying "right there" is not really close, which gives a strong sense of Osaka's enterprising spirit and is quite interesting.

The restaurant is located about a 7-8 minute walk southwest from Namba Station Exit 32 of the Osaka Metro Yotsubashi Line. Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated at a table for four. I ordered the Tonkatsu Curry B (with top loin pork) in large size. Soon, the tonkatsu curry was brought to our table. It consisted of rice topped with pre-cut top loin tonkatsu and curry sauce. The curry had a rich flavor with a mild spiciness that was not overwhelming. The tonkatsu was delicious with the curry flavor infused into the batter, allowing for a delightful combination of meat and curry. I look forward to returning to try a different curry dish. In the past, I used to frequent a restaurant near my company's office, but ever since they moved, I haven't been able to visit as often. I have been craving for a long time for "Original Tonkatsu Curry Katsuya". Today, on December 28, 2022, Wednesday, I visited the restaurant for the first time in Namba. The retro atmosphere is nice. I arrived at 2:06 PM, found a seat, and ordered the Tonkatsu Curry B (with premium loin meat), a raw egg, and a large serving (1.5 times the rice and sauce). The total was 1850 yen. The curry, made by fermenting and aging vegetable concentrated extract for three years, has a unique European-style flavor with mild spiciness. I enjoyed the nostalgic taste and the extra kick from the spicy powder on the table. The premium loin tonkatsu was tender and delicious.
