I wanted to eat Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) until I was full, so I visited with a friend. About 30 minutes before our visit, I tried calling to see if we could make a reservation, but no one answered. I thought they might not be taking reservations, but just as I was about to give up, someone finally answered. It was a woman. I asked if we could come in with two people, and she responded, "Oh, we start at 5 o'clock." I explained that we were aware of that and she said, "I can let you in, but..." We decided to go at 5 o'clock, so we made a reservation and killed time until then.
When we arrived at the restaurant, it was quiet with the lights on. I was a bit worried if they were open, but we cautiously entered. Inside, there was one female staff member and no other customers. We were seated at a table by the window in the spacious restaurant. Although the service wasn't overly friendly, we were there for the Genghis Khan, so we didn't mind.
We ordered:
- All-you-can-eat raw lamb Genghis Khan x2 - 2500 yen each
- All-you-can-drink - 1500 yen
- Oolong tea - 330 yen
- Extra large rice - 300 yen
The grill was a shallow Genghis Khan pot, which made the meat stick well. The raw lamb was actually frozen, but it was not seasoned, hence the name. It came with plenty of bean sprouts, which was nice. The sauce was a thick miso-based sauce that complemented the meat and vegetables well.
I was surprised by the extra large portion of rice, which was piled high on the plate. When I commented on it, the female staff member laughed. She seemed normal when we talked to her. The service of bringing a new sauce when we asked for a refill of meat was nice.
The beer was a bit disappointing, perhaps because the glass wasn't cold enough. Despite that, the restaurant had very few customers, almost like we had the place to ourselves for 90 minutes. Towards the end, a group of three and a family arrived. In terms of cost performance, it seemed reasonable, but since it's not an all-you-can-eat restaurant, eating until you're full doesn't necessarily mean you're getting your money's worth. I realized later that maybe it's just my stomach not being able to eat as much anymore due to my age. When you opt for all-you-can-drink alcohol, there's a tendency to try to make up for it by drinking a lot, which might result in eating less.
