This is my second hot pot this week! It seems like I've inadvertently made this week a hot pot week! It’s delicious and warming, so I’m totally fine with it! Today, I visited Shokukan in Kanayama! I remember this place being the reason I started posting on Tabelog. I happened to come at the perfect time right after they featured it on TV in the evening, and I suddenly had a craving! First, we ordered the two-flavor pot with rich broth and a spicy broth. Since it’s hot pot, we went for lamb and pork belly! Then we went to the section where you can select your ingredients: I grabbed white beef tripe, thick vermicelli, mushrooms, and various vegetables, and then we went to create our original dipping sauce! That part is really fun, you get to do it in the Chinese style! After that, we just threw our chosen ingredients into the bubbling pot and enjoyed the experience of eating hot pot! We laughed and said things like “It’s so spicy!” and “This sauce is delicious!” – eating hot pot is the best! For dessert, the 红糠糍粑 (Hongtanciba) was also tasty! It had a flavor like fried Shinshu rice cake with black syrup and soybean flour. After all the spicy food, it was a nice sweet ending, and it tasted amazing!

Hot pot always gets me excited. A few years ago, I used to frequently gather with a group called "Dead or Spicy." This time, I found a place in Akasaka that reminded me of those times, and it did not disappoint! The customization options for the dipping sauce are amazing—cilantro, fish sauce, garlic, chili oil, celery, dried chili, and a hint of sesame sauce make the perfect dipping sauce. You can choose your favorite ingredients, and I highly recommend the beef tripe! When it comes to hot pot, there's a unique sensation that opens up a part of the brain with its spiciness—it's as if the subconscious is being released. Is it brain juice? No, it’s more like a runny nose! Wrapped in a sense of ecstasy, I stepped out of the elevator and felt the refreshing cold air outside, completing today's delightful experience.

I visited after a long time. Even though it was a weekday, I made a reservation just in case. As always, the staff were mostly foreigners. This time, I ordered the three-flavor hot pot (spicy, rich broth, and tomato). From the ingredients corner, I selected Chinese cabbage, enoki mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, and bean sprouts. The staff brought everything to our table. While waiting for it to cook, I couldn’t resist pouring some broth into the provided cup to taste it (lol). I’ve gotten used to the spiciness, so it felt a bit lacking this time. I ended up eating until I was full again. I didn’t choose any expensive ingredients, and we only had one drink each, but the bill came to ¥4000 per person. That feels a bit pricey… (・_・;

It was my first time having hot pot, and I chose a course that was about 5500 yen. At first, I wondered if it would be enough food, but since it was hot and spicy, I ended up eating slowly and felt full. There was one item in the course that hadn't been served yet, so I mentioned it to the staff, and they promptly brought it to me along with a dessert as an apology. The staff members were all very kind.

I made a reservation for a girls' night out with a course that includes all-you-can-drink for 5,500 yen. If you don't choose the course, you can pick your favorite ingredients yourself and enjoy a hot pot style meal. The price for each plate varies, making it easy to understand the total cost. With the course, all the ingredients are brought to you at once, and there is quite a bit of food. You can choose from two types of broth. I enjoyed creating my own sauce to dip the hot pot ingredients, and everything was delicious! There’s a good mix of meat, fish, and vegetables, and because I could change the sauces, it never got boring. I really liked the punch of the spices like Sichuan pepper and star anise. The staff were Chinese but provided polite and attentive service.

I suddenly got a craving for spicy food and invited a friend to join me. The location near the station is really convenient. We went on short notice, just the two of us, but I recommend coming with 3-4 people so that you can choose a variety of ingredients. The staff seems to be from China, but when I asked them questions, they kindly explained everything in Japanese, which was very helpful. The procedure is as follows: 1) Choose the soup (if you select a spicy soup, make sure to communicate your desired level of spiciness), 2) Choose the meat, and 3) Each person can go and pick their own vegetables and dipping sauces. My friend, who can handle a little spice, tried a bite of the "slightly spicy" soup and ended up in tears. I went for a combination of "slightly spicy" and sesame sauce and loaded up on plenty of vegetables and meat until I was full, sweating, and feeling the tingling in my mouth. The numbing sensation from the Sichuan pepper and the kick from the chili were intense, and even the "slightly spicy" soup had an unforgiving heat that was full of flavor. There were plenty of dipping sauce options to choose from for customization, so I think if someone isn’t that great with spice, they could add chili to their dipping sauce for a bit of heat and choose a non-spicy soup for the main hot pot. I will definitely come back when I crave authentic hot pot again!

I visited this restaurant for the second time because I craved the hot pot I had in China. There are some items that are not very common in Japan, but everything was delicious. Personally, I recommend the tomato soup and golden soup for the broth. For the ingredients, I suggest the beef tripe, black fungus, and shrimp. There are many sauces and condiments available, so it's great to create your own blend according to your taste. I usually blend seafood sauce and oyster sauce. When I tried the tea-infused alcoholic drink recommended by the staff, mixed with lemon and ice, I felt pleasantly tipsy. The service was also very kind. By the way, I forgot to take photos.

It felt like being in a foreign country, with many of the staff and guests being Chinese. You can pick a variety of ingredients yourself, and you can mix the sauces to your liking. Although you can choose the level of spiciness, it can get really spicy, so if you're not a fan of spicy food, it might be better to choose a non-spicy broth.

I went to a hot pot restaurant with four friends, and all the staff members were foreigners, with no Japanese people present, which was a bit tough. The spicy hot pot allows you to choose from three levels of spiciness, but according to the staff, even level 1 is incredibly spicy, so we opted for level 1. Indeed, it was spicy! Even though I usually find LEE's 30 times spicy sauce to be normal, I found this course menu quite spicy. There were many ingredients, and we couldn’t finish it all. The dipping sauce was a buffet style where you could choose your base and toppings, which was fun. With an all-you-can-drink option included for 5,500 yen, it felt like a great deal. As a side note, we went for a second round and enjoyed some sweets to soothe our palates after the spicy experience!

I used this restaurant for a dinner with my colleagues. It was my first experience with hot pot, and at first, I was unsure how to enjoy it. However, I gradually got the hang of it and eventually became absorbed in feasting on a variety of ingredients. The dipping sauce made with numerous seasonings and the endless possibilities of enjoying different ingredients in the hot pot felt limitless. The two hours flew by, and I still had many more combinations I wanted to try. I definitely hope to have it again.

I went to a restaurant with a friend who loves spicy food. As soon as we got off the elevator, we were hit by a strong spicy aroma that really pumped us up! It seemed to have an authentic flavor, as there were many Chinese customers dining there. We ordered the restaurant's signature hot pot. The staff told us that Japanese customers usually don't order it, which made us a bit anxious, but despite the intense spiciness, numbing heat, and overall challenge, we found it incredibly delicious. It was fun to create our own dipping sauces from a variety of ingredients, allowing us to change up the flavors, which I highly recommend. We also chose beef coated in chili, which was quite a thrill. Luckily, we ordered a milder second pot as a backup, ensuring we could enjoy the meal until the very end.

This is my third visit, and my whole family is hooked! The restaurant has a stylish atmosphere, and all the staff are great! I've had hot pot numerous times while on business trips to China, but this place truly captures the authentic taste. There are many Chinese customers dining here as well. I love the self-made dipping sauce style and the all-you-can-eat selection of ingredients; it feels just like the real deal. I think choosing my own ingredients is more cost-effective than ordering a set course! I usually go for pork belly, napa cabbage, black fungus, and cow tripe—these are so delicious that I don't need anything else! The hot pot flavors are the spicy version and a rich tonkotsu (pork bone broth) combination; I wouldn't want anything else! It's incredibly delicious! For the dipping sauce, I mix sesame sauce with ponzu, add sesame oil, cilantro, celery, pickled mustard greens, peanuts, and chili oil—it's the best sauce ever! I can't wait to go back soon!

I had reserved a hot pot course, and the dining etiquette here involves mixing your own dipping sauce and adding the prepared ingredients to the pot yourself. Although I can handle spicy foods well, I was glad to take the recommendation from the staff to go with medium spiciness. The best part was being able to create my own dipping sauce. At a glance, there were dozens of spices to mix and find the perfect combination that suited my taste. There were also plenty of ingredients to choose from, making it a lot of fun.

I had been curious about "Sichuan Traditional Hot Pot Shukkan," located in Kanayama, which is a popular restaurant known for its authentic hot pot. I made a reservation online and went there. There was a lot of fun in choosing and combining different broths, dipping sauces, and ingredients, and the taste was delicious. I found the spicy broth quite hot even at level 1! My husband, who enjoys spicier food than I do, thought it was hot too but was intrigued by level 2. My favorite was the refreshing mushroom broth! Here’s what we ate: We chose a three-flavor hot pot, so besides the default spicy broth, we selected two additional types: ◯ Spicy broth (spiciness level 1) ◯ Rich broth (tonkotsu flavor) ◯ Mushroom broth (light broth flavor) ◯ Meats: We had lamb, beef, and pork in various cuts, choosing from 5-6 options. ◯ Vegetables and other ingredients: There was a space in the back with various ingredients on round plates in the fridge. Like a conveyor belt sushi, the price varies by the color of the plate. We chose cilantro, cabbage, enoki mushrooms, maitake mushrooms, and squid tentacles. ◯ Dipping sauces: Alongside the ingredient space, there were numerous sauce dispensers where we mixed recommended sauces. I only tried about three different dipping sauces, but I really liked the "Xianjiao sauce," which had a Thai flavor. "Ponzu" was also good. But since the hot pot broth was already well-seasoned, the dipping sauces ended up being a bit too strong; I preferred eating directly from the pot. ◯ Bingfen: A jelly-like dessert topped with raisins, nuts, and black syrup—I found it very tasty! - Reflection: I regret that I added lamb and cilantro, which have strong flavors, from the start, and the taste lingered until the end. Next time, I'll save the stronger-flavored ingredients for last. - Caution: When I arrived at the restaurant, I could already smell the hot pot from the elevator, and even though my coat was covered, it absorbed the smell! I ended up having to take my clothes to the dry cleaner for the first time in years, so I'd recommend wearing something washable. The staff was also friendly, which was nice. At Ichikinzan, the moment I stepped inside, it felt like I had entered a pot of hot water due to the spiciness. It was quite cold outside, but the humidity inside made it warm! I couldn't help but cough a little, haha. The taste is just as delicious as the Yabacho location! I chose the classic spicy broth, along with tomato and pork bone base soup. This hot pot is truly addictive. What I love about this restaurant is the variety of condiments that allow you to create your own preferred dipping sauce. I'm genuinely enjoying it! My favorite is the fermented tofu. It's really delicious.

I revisited Shukan Kanayama, a traditional Sichuan hot pot restaurant located at 2-16-16 Kanayama, Naka-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. I missed the taste of hot pot I had in Chongqing, China, so I decided to come back! You can choose the broth for the hot pot, as well as select your favorite meats, seafood, and vegetables. It's also nice that there are many types of sauces to mix and match to your liking. As always, the recommended choices for hot pot are lamb and hot pot offal. The Bang Bang chicken and boiled dumplings are also delicious. I always enjoy my meals here. If you're in the mood for hot pot, this is a highly recommended place! Thank you for the meal!

It seems that many employees are from China, and there were some who had difficulty communicating in Japanese. I also got the impression that many customers were from China. We went there as a couple and enjoyed picking our favorite items to cook in the hot pot. Lettuce and pork belly went really well together in the hot pot! It was delicious. The quail eggs were tasty, but be careful not to burn yourself – the yolk is extremely hot. It was also fun to mix our own dipping sauce.

We had a year-end party with our family of four. Instead of a set course, we picked the dishes we wanted to eat. We chose a two-color hot pot with a standard and a rich soup. For our cheers and appetizers, we ordered spicy chicken salad, which was delicious. The spiciness from the chili was overshadowed by the flavors of Sichuan pepper, star anise, and it really felt like authentic Sichuan cuisine! It could easily pair with a pint of beer. The dipping sauce allowed us to mix several bases and toppings, but I think it takes some practice to find the perfect recipe for your taste. The staff advised that the medium spicy level is quite spicy, and the standard soup in the two-color hot pot was mildly spicy. Ultimately, as the broth thickened, the spiciness concentrated, so the mildly spicy option was sufficient; if you need more heat, you can adjust with the dipping sauce. There were quite a few mismatches between the items in the showcase and the menu descriptions, making it unclear what kind of dumplings were available. The ingredients were average, but since there were many Chinese customers, I assume the quality is generally reliable. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, and the ladies in our group enjoyed it, so it’s a place we’d like to revisit. However, if you opt for a course, the restaurant Shiki take is probably better. Also, since the soup costs per person, it’s more cost-effective to go with two people (laughs).

I visited on a Saturday night and it was fully booked, so it was a good decision to make a reservation. I didn't reserve a course, just a table, and when I looked at the menu, the ordering process was quite complicated. First, we chose the hot pot soup and then ordered the meat. The vegetables were self-serve. They were presented on colored plates, without any combination platters, so we ended up taking a lot, as if it were a buffet. There were many unfamiliar vegetables, but they were all delicious once I tried them. I chose the medium spicy hot pot soup, but it turned out to be quite spicy when cooked. There were plenty of dipping sauce options, and it was fun to mix my own. Thank you for the meal!

I tried Sichuan hot pot for the first time, and I'm grateful that I can dine alone (laughs). However, when dining solo, I can't eat a lot of ingredients. Each tray of ingredients is color-coded based on its price, and depending on the food, there are about 1.5 to 2 portions. It’s fun and exciting to choose my favorite ingredients and sauces, but the dumplings are hard to tell apart just by color, so I couldn’t distinguish whether it was shrimp dumplings, fish paste dumplings, or squid dumplings. I ended up asking a nearby staff member for help (laughs). They kindly smiled and explained, so I could choose what I wanted; however, it would be nice if the product names and ingredient lists were clearer. Additionally, it seemed that food was replenished only after existing items ran out, so there were challenges in getting the items I wanted right away (laughs). By the way, the fried rice was average. The staff's service was delightful! Overall, I’m just really happy to finally have the hot pot I’ve been wanting to eat. I’d like to try other soup flavors next time. Thank you for the meal!
