On September 16, 2023, I visited a new restaurant called "Sanuki Udon Yonpachi" in Esaka, where I started a new job for 1 year and 4 months. The restaurant was recommended to me as the owner had trained at "Kamaage Udon Yashima" in Moriguchi before opening their own place in 2013. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and welcoming, bustling with locals and people working nearby during lunchtime. I decided to order the "Ebiten Kitsune Bukkake Set Meal" (930 yen), which came with sweet potato rice. The udon noodles had a slightly softer texture compared to traditional Sanuki udon, making it easier to eat - perhaps tailored to suit the Osaka taste? I opted for the large serving, which was free of charge. Although I didn't order it, you could add two pieces of chicken tempura for an additional 100 yen. It is a cheap and delicious restaurant. Payment with PayPay is possible, as well as cash. The daily special was Chikuwa Tempura with Kitsune and Sweet Potato in a large portion. The tempura was crispy and hot, especially the sweet potato which was delicious. The udon wasn't too cold and could be enjoyed as a bukkake style dish. The fact that you can get a large portion for free is great. The taste of the rice alone seemed like it had been sitting for hours, tasting a bit old. The Tori Tempura was crispy and hot, and delicious for only 100 yen. It was a good value restaurant, despite the slightly disappointing taste of the rice. Thank you for the meal.

I went to a restaurant in Esaka with a friend on Saturday afternoon that I had bookmarked. We were able to enter as the first customers as they had just opened. It was hot, so I ordered the chicken tempura udon (with mixed rice). The tempura coating was crispy, but the udon was a bit lukewarm. The problem was the mixed rice. Although it was supposed to be complimentary, it was clearly not freshly cooked and very dry. It seemed like it was reused. I would have preferred to pay for freshly cooked rice. Overall, I felt that there was a lack of professionalism. I'm sorry, but personally, I don't think I'll be returning next time.

Just a 5-minute walk from Esaka Station, it's worth braving the heat for this place! Sanuki udon at Yonhachi is incredibly delicious, with a great value daily special menu. Today, I ordered the chicken tempura kitsune udon, which comes with free extra noodles and rice - amazing! The firm udon noodles with a hint of ginger aroma really whet your appetite. Next to the Esaka Park, there is a famous Sanuki udon restaurant called "Shi Hachi." The name comes from the "four" of Shikoku and the "eight" of Moriguchi's famous restaurant Yashima, symbolizing not forgetting one's origins. It was almost full during lunchtime, but luckily I got a seat at the counter. The menu was extensive, but I decided to order the cold chicken and egg udon. Despite the crowd, the udon arrived in just a few minutes. The noodles were thick and chewy, while the broth was sweet and refreshing. The chicken was tender and juicy. Breaking the soft-boiled egg and mixing it in added a creamy texture and enhanced the deliciousness. The portion of noodles was just right, and I left feeling satisfied. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Being right next to Esaka Park makes it a convenient stop during a walk or picnic.

Located a 5-7 minute walk from Esaka Station is Sanuki Udon Yonhachi. This udon shop was established in 2013 by a chef who trained at the famous udon shops Kamayaki Udon Yashima in Moriguchi. Similar to other independent shops like Bakusho, Udon Biyori, and Nakaya, Sanuki Udon Yonhachi offers a wide variety of menu items that cater not only to those craving udon but also to those looking to enjoy a meal with drinks. I tried the Toriten Ontama Curry with Takenoko Gohan set, which was priced at a very reasonable 1,000 yen. The dish looked vibrant with a half-cooked egg and piping hot chicken tempura on top. The udon was cooked slightly soft, making it easy to eat, and the curry broth mixed well with the udon, warming me up so much that I started sweating towards the end! The crispy chicken tempura soaked in curry broth and the creamy onsen egg complemented the udon perfectly, making it a satisfying meal. I highly recommend visiting this place. Thank you for the meal!

I went to eat lunch on a certain day in January 2023. I had the daily special set meal, originally priced at 830 yen but discounted to 780 yen for following the restaurant's Instagram. It was a mini sauce pork cutlet bowl with side of kelp udon. The mini sauce pork cutlet bowl had 4 pieces of pork cutlet with sauce on top, and some greens (possibly watercress) between the rice and cutlets for easier eating. The kelp udon had a rich broth with kelp and bonito flavors, and the slightly thinner udon noodles were chewy. The grated kelp added sweetness and umami. Although the portion of noodles in the regular size might be a bit small for some people, you can get a free upgrade to a larger size. Overall, it was a delicious meal.

On a certain day in January 2023, I went out for lunch. I had the New Year's Udon for 950 yen (discounted from 1050 yen with an Instagram follow discount). The dish was topped with shrimp tempura, fried tofu, fried rice cake, seaweed, pickled plum, and green onions, making it very flavorful. The New Year's Udon tradition is to eat udon with red and white toppings to bring good luck for the year. The red ingredient symbolizing good luck is the pickled plum. The place seems like it's part of the Yashima Group, and even though the name suggests it's an udon restaurant, it also looks like a nice place to drink. Eating soba at a soba restaurant while drinking usually turns out well, but I wonder how it is at an udon restaurant.

Last time, I scrambled to Ramen Korekore due to temporary closure. This time, I called ahead to confirm they were open before heading over. The place has 3 counter seats and 8 two-person tables. The dining area is run by 2 female staff members wearing bandanas. There are Hanshin baseball team flags displayed, so you could say we're comrades (^_^;) The condiments available are soy sauce, lemon juice, white sesame seeds, and shichimi. I ordered the benchmark dish from a udon shop I visited for the first time. They included rice as part of their lunchtime service. - Chikuwa Tempura Ontama Bukkake (cold): ¥930 The chikuwa tempura was freshly fried and piping hot. The noodles are what they call "otomen" in the authentic Sanuki style. They have a strong, firm texture. However, the rice was a bit lacking. I entered a udon restaurant in Esaka. It is located around the area past Esaka Park from Esaka Station. I ordered the "Shi Hachi Bukkake Udon" (900 yen) which has the name of the restaurant in it. Depending on the udon, you can also get mixed rice or takikomi rice set. The tempura includes rapeseed flowers, shrimp, sweet potato, fish cake, bamboo shoot, and chicken tempura. The udon has a good chewy texture and is delicious. The sauce for the bukkake udon is slightly sweet with a rich soy sauce base, and it has a refined and Japanese feel to it. It's great.
