Tuesday is a business trip to Furano. I checked into the hotel on Monday evening. I met a friend about 30 years ago. Despite a 17-year age gap, we share similar interests and hobbies. We have only had short talks during occasional reunions at business trips or study meetings over the years. Last year, we promised to have a proper conversation over a meal when we have free time. Finally, that wish came true. My friend lives in Furano. He had already researched and made a reservation at this restaurant. I walked from the hotel, which is near the station. Even for someone like me, who is used to the cold in Asahikawa, Furano feels quite chilly. I lived in Furano for about 2 years 25 years ago, and it's not as freezing as it was back then. But still, it's cold. Walking past the famous Kumagera restaurant, located to the left, we arrived at this stylish restaurant. We entered and informed them of our reservation, and we were guided to a private room at the back. My friend had arrived before me. The private room had a sunken kotatsu-style table, and the table was spacious and comfortable. We quickly checked the menu. Let's start with a draft beer. Now, what should we eat? I love oyster fry, so that's a must. A salad would be nice too. I prefer salads that don't mainly consist of meat or fish, so I decided on an onion salad. Let's also have some cheese spring rolls for deep-frying, which we both like. And some appetizers too. We added fried chicken guts and butter-grilled gizzards. The edamame appetizer was quite generous. Cheers with the beer. Delicious. And the conversation flowed easily. Since we share the same hobbies, the conversation never stopped. Hobbies may transcend age. The oyster fry was made from oysters from Kagoshima, and it was delicious and piping hot. The cheese spring rolls were also good. The onion salad had raw ham around it, with an egg yolk in the center. I mixed it all up with dressing. The mildness of the egg and the slight acidity and bitterness of the onion matched well and tasted great. So, this kind of salad exists. We enjoyed the meal while having a good conversation. Another beer, umeshu sour, lemon sour, and so on. I had about 5-6 alcoholic drinks (from what I remember), and my friend had around 4. Before we knew it, it was last order, and the dinner party ended. This time, I'll treat you. Oh, by the way, when I researched on Tabelog, I confirmed that JCB cards were accepted. However, at the register when we entered, it said cards were not accepted. Thankfully, I had cash with me, so it was fine. The bill was 9,020 yen. Drinking, eating heartily, and this bill. I think it's cheap. It was a fun time. A beautiful interior, delicious food at a good cost, thank you for the meal. I would like to visit again. Next time, I'd like to try pizza, grilled fish, sashimi, and so on.
