During my trip to Wakkanai, I stopped by Noshappu Cape at a restaurant called Noshappu Shokudo because I was feeling a bit hungry. I had heard about their "Mozuku Ramen" so I decided to order it for 800 yen. I usually like miso ramen, so I found the mozuku ramen to be lacking for me. The taste of mozuku was quite strong and overwhelming in the ramen. I realized that seaweed-based dishes can be hit or miss, and this experience was a miss for me.

Visited by a food log reviewer 15 months ago, this eatery is located at Noshappu Cape in Hokkaido, which is known as the most remote area. Despite having had in-flight meals, I found myself feeling a bit peckish. There are a few shops at the cape, but this one might be the dirtiest. There was no particular reason for choosing this place. There were four previous customers (from one group), all of them tourists. We decided to go for the wakame ramen (salt) priced at 800 yen including tax. You can choose from soy sauce, miso, or salt for all the ramen options. It's not cheap in this remote location, but the salt ramen was quite satisfying. It was a decent bowl of ramen that left us feeling content.

I visited the "Noshappu Shokudo" in Noshappu 2-chome, Wakkanai City. The restaurant has a counter with 4 seats, 6 tables for 4 people, 2 tables for 6 people, and about 4 sunken kotatsu tables, making it spacious. Smoking is allowed. On the day I went, it was a bit cold so they also served tea along with water. The menu includes soy sauce ramen and salt ramen for 700 yen, mozuku ramen and wakame ramen for 800 yen, uni ramen and crab ramen for 1,000 yen. They also have curry rice and shrimp pilaf for 500 yen, and salmon roe bowl for 1,000 yen. I tried the salt ramen (700 yen). It was steaming hot, causing the photo to come out white. It had green onions, bamboo shoots, and pork chashu, along with wood ear mushrooms and narutomaki. The noodles were the typical white, medium-thin noodles commonly seen in the Wakkanai area. The transparent soup was made with kombu dashi, and it was light and easy to eat with a subtle oiliness and saltiness. Thank you for the meal. The northernmost point of Japan is Cape Soya, but I prefer Cape Nosappu because there are more frequent bus services and it has a more remote feeling. The view of the "Setting Sun of Mount Rishiri" is truly stunning. The lighthouse at Cape Nosappu is reminiscent of a painting by Munch. The peaceful sound of the waves and the pleasant breeze make it a perfect spot to relax. I decided to have lunch at a restaurant called Nosappu Shokudo. The menu had a variety of options, including Uni Ramen, which turned out to be surprisingly delicious. The cold beer was also a great addition to the meal. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Cape Nosappu and the meal at the restaurant.

I visited this Noshappu Shokudo for the first time on the second day of my trip to Wakkanai, Hokkaido. I had planned to have the "Uni-dake Uni-don" at the Karafuto Shokudo for breakfast, so I decided to try a different seafood dish at this restaurant in the evening. The interior of the restaurant had a simple and modest atmosphere. It seemed like they used to have something displayed in the showcase, giving a sense of the past. Unlike the flashy messages at the Karafuto Shokudo, this place felt a bit plain. However, it was clean and comfortable to dine in. I asked the staff for a recommendation, and they suggested the "Nishiki-don," which was a bowl with two colors - uni and ikura. Both uni and ikura are among my favorite seafood items, so I happily ordered it. The bowl came with a generous amount of ikura and uni on top of the rice, which I couldn't even see underneath. Being in Hokkaido had skewed my sense of portion size, but I enjoyed the dish nonetheless. The ikura and uni were delicious. The restaurant was almost empty as it was after the Obon season, and I had no trouble finding a seat. The road in front of the restaurant had been renovated, so I had to park my motorcycle at the nearby parking lot and walk to the restaurant. Despite the inconvenience, I was satisfied with the ample amount of uni I had enjoyed and headed back to my hotel.
