On weekdays at 5:00 pm, there was no wait for the special tonkatsu (¥1,500) with rice (¥200). I have lived in Osaka for a long time, but I have never been to the area south of Namba and east of Uehonmachi. Nowzato was an unexplored land with the image of a typical old man and old lady. The couple here were also strong personalities, especially the old man whose quirkiness was at a level that some may find hard to tolerate. For some reason, they explained that they don't wear masks as a measure against COVID-19, which was unscientific and unheard of. I just nodded along to avoid any trouble. They wouldn't let you in without removing your mask. Surprisingly, both of them claimed they hadn't been infected with COVID-19, showing confidence in their theory. They were the most troublesome type. Both of them were quite elderly, and the old lady seemed to have difficulty walking. "There will be a TV broadcast tomorrow, so next week we'll be fully booked. You're lucky to have come today," said the old man. We ordered the famous special tonkatsu. They didn't have Hayashi rice, which looked delicious in the photos, so I reluctantly ordered rice instead. It was lucky to get in without a reservation, but unlucky not to be able to eat Hayashi rice. Now, onto the main dish, the special tonkatsu. It was a thick tonkatsu covered in demiglace sauce. It was quite tough, making it hard to cut with a knife. I imagine the tonkatsu at famous Western or tonkatsu restaurants to be very soft due to low-temperature frying, but this one was different. The meat quality and the traditional deep-fried style made it quite tough. The tonkatsu itself was just average. The demiglace sauce, despite looking rich, was actually quite light. The only thing I liked was this demiglace sauce, including the service and everything else. Since the tonkatsu was just average, I think this demiglace sauce would have been better with a hamburger. It had a unique taste that I haven't had much before. Also, I'm not sure why, but they charged a 100 yen entrance fee per person. It wasn't a cover charge, it was literally an entrance fee. If that's the case, I would prefer if they just raised all menu prices by 100 yen. Apparently, you're supposed to make a reservation by phone in advance, but I was the only customer until I left. They don't allow groups of 6 or more without a reservation, but today was an exception. I won't be revisiting due to the tiring experience with the old man.
