Located in Honmachi, the traditional charcoal-grilled restaurant "Wakou" has been open for 34 years in the Honmachi Center Street. Passed down to the second generation for 14 years, this old-fashioned charcoal-grilled restaurant allows you to enjoy the traditional flavors to your heart's content. In January 2020, I visited a hidden gem in Honmachi, Osaka after a long time! I arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes before opening to secure a seat at the counter, which cannot be reserved. The staff were busy preparing for the opening, and at exactly 6:00 PM, I entered the restaurant. Despite being cold in the winter, I ordered a beer and tried to warm up quickly with dishes like fresh saury sashimi, skipjack tuna sashimi, steamed oysters in sake, grilled conger eel, and young corn. Sitting at the counter allowed me to choose my dishes directly from the ingredients and watch the chefs in action, making the food taste even better than if I were sitting at a table. I switched to a highball made with a hand-squeezed mixer and added dishes like beef harami, clams, shunpin, chicken and bacon rolls, tuna with green onions, and seared sushi rolls. Everything was truly delicious, especially the chicken breast, which I tried for the first time among their classic menu items. In November 2022, I visited the restaurant again after a long time. This time, I had a private room. Due to COVID-19, the opening hours seemed to have changed, as the restaurant was already open when I arrived before 6:00 PM. I enjoyed dishes like assorted sashimi, beef harami, shunpin, and bacon rolls. In July 2023, I visited the restaurant as my second stop, and miraculously secured the best seat. Here is what I ordered: fresh saury, red snapper, squid lips, shunpin, maitake mushrooms, spare ribs, meat pie, duck meatballs, salmon belly, and grilled rice balls with plum and salmon roe. It was amazing! Even the staff were happy with our choices. Currently, the restaurant has a rating of 3.59 on Tabelog.

I'm sorry for my poor photography skills. At this counter, they cook teppanyaki right in front of you. It has a great old-town izakaya vibe. All the food is delicious. The Kurokiri bottle is also a steal at 1800 yen. If you ever find yourself in Honmachi, I highly recommend checking this place out.

Company-related drinking party this time in Honmachi. I roughly choose the restaurant! The price was reasonable and there was a slightly intriguing place, so I chose "Robatayaki Wakou" for this time. It is located in a corner of the office building area in Honmachi, almost like a place you would overlook while walking. Actually, I passed by once while looking at the map haha. The restaurant is not very attractive, with a somewhat dirty red lantern. The first floor is mainly counter seats, and the second floor has tables. It has a somewhat miscellaneous atmosphere. Since two people are coming late, I decided to pick some appetizers while waiting. This restaurant does not list prices on the menu. According to another article I read, the price varies depending on the customer haha. Really?? Haha, a scary system, isn't it? I don't know the basics, so I can't say anything haha. For now, I started with appetizers such as: - Slippery river firefly squid pickled off the coast - Ankimo seaweed ponzu - Skin-on young corn The appetizers were quite good. The firefly squid had a nice taste, and the ankimo was also good. I've been into skin-on young corn lately, and it was delicious, but maybe a bit more charred would be nice? That depends on personal preference. And then, the latecomers arrived. One person joined after another dinner, so they mainly focused on drinking. Now, let's order more! We ordered fish dishes: - Summer bonito and Seki horse mackerel sashimi - Grilled white clams - Autumn Pacific saury dried by Wakou Meat Pie After that, we ordered some meat dishes here and there. The meat dishes were quite ordinary. The fish dishes were delicious as expected. The summer bonito and Seki horse mackerel were quite tasty. The white clams, I thought there would be a few, but there were 8 haha. You can enjoy a lot of expensive clams like this haha. The dried autumn Pacific saury was excellent with sake!! Hmm, if this restaurant had a better selection of sake, it would be perfect. The variety of sake is a bit weak, I guess?? Did we also eat eel and such?? We spent about 3 hours eating and drinking, and the bill was 20,600 yen. There were 4 people, but one person only drank alcohol and didn't eat much, so it's actually around 6,000 yen per person, I guess?? Well, I thought it would be a restaurant under 5,000 yen because it left a cheap impression, but eating and drinking delicious food for 6,000 yen is not expensive. Well, if you work in Honmachi, you would probably go to this restaurant normally.

I went with work colleagues for the first time in about 14 years. I only go with people who can appreciate the depth of this restaurant. The spring rolls and bacon asparagus tortellini are must-haves. The fact that all prices are based on market value can be a bit unsettling when you're short on cash. The food and atmosphere are both excellent. Thank you for the feast.

Located a 4-minute walk from Hommachi Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line, there is a shop in a narrow alleyway. Look for the lantern of Robatayaki Wakou at the entrance. The atmosphere is quite deep, but the customers seem to be having a great time. I wanted to eat robatayaki after a long time, so I went into a place that seemed hidden and not crowded. But surprisingly, it was full of people. I had delicious summer bonito and golden eye snapper sashimi. The dried mackerel pike was also tasty. The menu included long green pepper, spring roll, meat pie, and bacon-wrapped tornado, all of which were delicious. For recommendations, young corn and green onion are always a safe choice. The prices were not listed, so I always get nervous when it's time to pay, but the prices are fair.

Located in Honcho, there is "Robata Wakou"! It's a hidden gem in an alley, a deep and cozy place. They have counter seats around the hearth where you can enjoy your meal. Since we were a large group, we were seated at a table on the second floor. Every dish was delicious and perfect with drinks. Prices were not listed on the menu, but I found them to be quite reasonable! It's always crowded, so reservations are a must.

Long time no see! The head chef seems to be doing well, which is great. Today, we had a private room at the back and enjoyed a course meal with all-you-can-drink option. The squid skewers that came out at the end were my favorite. We started with draft beer, then had Arita orange sour, a variety of white and red wines. Thank you for the feast!

I got a special seat at the table where they cook the food right in front of you. Grilling on the net is the best. I was a bit drunk so the photos I took are a bit blurry, focusing more on the alcohol bottles than the grilled food like nagaimo, shiitake mushrooms, and mysterious konjac. The stairs in this restaurant are so steep, it reminded me of my grandpa's house and made me feel warm inside. By the way, in high school, I didn't know what "heartful" meant, so I used to call a hairstyle that looked like a heart "heartful." It was a hairstyle with the roots standing up and it was really nice.

Hello everyone. I highly recommend this place. I love it so much that I came two nights in a row. It's a traditional charcoal grill restaurant and it's really deep. Takuya, who is also a rugby coach, is the best. You choose what you want to order from what's displayed. My favorites were: - Bacon Asparagus → My number one favorite. I love it. A masterpiece. - Chicken Breast → It has mentaiko (spicy cod roe) in it. Not heavy! - Sweet Potato Tempura → This is delicious. The potato on the side is great. Whenever I come to Osaka, I always stop by here. Thank you so much!!

I had been interested in this restaurant for a while but couldn't go until now. This time, I went with 4 people and sat on the second floor, which had a cozy feel like someone's grandma's house. The food was all delicious, and the drinks kept flowing! I was a bit worried because the prices weren't listed, but considering how much we ate and drank, the cost performance was really good! I definitely want to go back many times. Next time, I want to sit on the first floor and enjoy the atmosphere of the robatayaki while drinking.

First visit to this long-established place with a rich history. Around 9 PM, there were about 4 empty seats! But wait, within 5 minutes, the place was packed with customers coming in one after another. It must be a popular spot. I tried the Harumaki (sukiyaki with egg) and it was delicious!

This place is highly recommended!!! What kind of sashimi is this! Grilled wagyu beef with green onions, spicy beef tendon, and konjac from Tenma, now moving to Honmachi for drinks! 6th stop! I found this place on Instagram and I've always wanted to try it, but there wasn't much information haha. It's quite a retro place with mostly older men. The prices are not written, so I have no idea how much it is! Surprisingly, it's quite spacious! The center of the counter happened to be vacant, and I could see the green onions being grilled right in front of me. I wonder what kind of sashimi this is, maybe horse mackerel? They also gave me a little bit of sashimi as a service ☺️ I forgot how much the bill was, but the beef tendons had large pieces and were delicious ❤️‍ I want to come back here again!!! Everyone should definitely give it a try!

This is epitomized by a restaurant called "Robata Wakou," run by a former rugby player with a macho image, serving robatayaki dishes that are surprisingly delicate in flavor. The restaurant is located in a dimly lit mixed-use building, with a red lantern signaling its presence. Stepping inside the building requires courage, but upon hearing rumors of a delicious robatayaki restaurant, I couldn't resist stopping by. The small counter, which seats only about six people, surrounds the chef as he grills various ingredients. I enjoyed dishes such as dried Pacific saury, chicken thigh with mentaiko, bacon-wrapped items, grilled shiitake mushrooms, grated yam with salmon roe, sweet potato tempura, harami steak, salt koji marinated offal, and grilled rice balls topped with crab miso. Each dish was extraordinary and I will definitely be coming back for more.

■July 2022 There is a shop down a narrow road just a short walk from Motocho Station. There is a cute hand-drawn sign that makes it easy to find. I had made a reservation almost two months in advance, based on a recommendation from a friend, and I was really looking forward to it. There are no prices listed on the menu, it seems to be determined by the number of people, etc. We had sashimi, classic negitoro sushi, negitoro, boneless spare ribs, grilled young corn, grilled eggplant, and grilled rice balls to finish. Everything was really delicious as the reviews say! The negitoro sushi was quite spicy because of the green onions, but it went well with the drinks. The boneless spare ribs were so tender and delicious! I was surprised by how tasty it was. I was already full and wanted to eat more, but it was time to finish. The grilled rice balls at the end were just the right size for a perfect finish. If I ever go to Osaka again, I would love to visit this place. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I visited Wako-san. I always sit at the counter with a hearth. It's a traditional izakaya with a lively atmosphere, perfect for both summer and winter. It's always crowded with salarymen, so it's lucky if you can get a seat easily! The food is excellent and delicious. I always order the conger eel. They allow smoking IQOS as well. The staff are very friendly. It was delicious as always! Thank you for the meal!

I visited this restaurant for the first time, which I had been curious about for a while. It was a Monday night, and there were quite a few salarymen who had just finished work. When asked if I preferred a table or the counter, I chose the counter because I wanted to see the food being cooked in front of me. There was a wide variety of options to choose from, whether it was picking ingredients directly in front of me or asking questions about items on the menu. Unlike some traditional restaurants, there was no sense of exclusivity or unfriendliness from regular customers. All the staff were friendly, smiling, and worked efficiently. The head chef, who was doing the cooking, was also very pleasant, making me want to come back again. The restaurant is located in an arcade-like area, so it is essentially open to the outside. I was concerned that it might be too hot for grilling in this season, but they had spot coolers in place, so even women wearing makeup should be comfortable. We ordered quite a bit of food and had about eight drinks, but the total bill came to 9000 yen, which felt reasonably priced. The dishes were delicious, especially when cooked right in front of us at the counter. Although the restaurant may be a bit hard to find and initially intimidating to enter, I found that everyone there was welcoming and I had a great time.

Finally got a reservation and went. Visited on Friday at 6pm. It was already packed and some of the dishes I wanted were sold out. The food was incredibly delicious! Highly recommend the shrimp and Wako's meat pie! The belly meat was also delicious. The sashimi of golden eye snapper was amazing too. Wanted to try the green onion roll as well. Will definitely go back!

Everything is delicious. It's like stepping into the adult world that I admired as a child in the Showa era! Every day, carefully prepared ingredients and carefully selected materials are spread out in front of you. Each dish is finished to order and brought to you across the counter. The prices are also from the Showa era, so you can order as much as you like without hesitation. If I were living alone, I would probably visit every day.
