From morning, I wandered around the city on my bicycle. The early morning was cool and comfortable, but by around 10 o'clock, the sun became strong, so I decided to take a break near Kikusui. I found a soba restaurant called "Sobadokoro Kikusui Nanbu" and decided to stop by. It opened at 10 am, right next to the popular sandwich shop "Mogumogu," and there were no customers yet. The atmosphere inside was that of a traditional and historic town soba restaurant, run by a father, mother, and perhaps their son and daughter-in-law. I quickly looked at the menu, which included cold soba options like "Mori @600, Hiyashi Nuki @750, Ebi Tempura Zaru @1,200, Kami Tempura Zaru @1,500," and hot soba options like "Kake @600, Kashiwa @750, Curry @800, Ebi Tempura @1,100, Ebi Tempura Toji @1,200," among others. I ordered the "Mori @600" and it was served in 7 minutes. The tray included soba, a small cup, a sake decanter, and condiments (green onions, wasabi, tenkasu). The soba had a smooth and slippery texture, a long noodle that was a bit difficult to handle, a subtle soba aroma, and a good tsuyu dipping sauce with a nice balance of sweetness and saltiness. It was perfect for my taste. Since I am on a diet and trying to avoid carbohydrates, I opted for the "Soba Bento @800" next time, which comes with warm and cold soba, along with toppings like grilled fish, pumpkin, chicken tempura, rice, and pickles, all for this price. By the time I left, there were 3 groups and 7 people who came in after me. It seems like the early opening hours have become well-known among regular customers, which was heartwarming to see. If I have the chance, I would definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.
