Soon it will be 2 o'clock, approaching the time when I become a lunch refugee. Going down to the basement of the Ryokuson Building, I found Shoungetsu, a seasonal dining establishment. I wonder when it opened. It's a restaurant that caught my attention. Since there were other customers, I decided to go in. Many items were sold out, so I had to choose between two options. I chose the "Mochi no Ron's Fuku! Tonkatsu set" and enjoyed it. The tonkatsu was fried nicely, with no audible sizzling sound, but a faint "pipipipi" sound indicating it was ready. The cabbage portion was a bit small, but it was nice to have vegetables included. The meat of the tonkatsu was cooked well, but it felt slightly dry and lacked a crispy texture on the breading. It didn't have the same juiciness and crispiness as a specialty shop. I mostly ate it with sauce, but even when I tried soy sauce, it didn't quite work for me. The main dish was served on a plastic plate, giving off a cafeteria-style vibe, and the pickles, hijiki, and miso soup seemed pre-made. The wakame in the miso soup was slightly sweet, the green onions had a slightly tough texture, and the cabbage had a hint of bitterness. The rice seemed freshly cooked, but it didn't quite hit the mark. The counter seating was limited to 6 seats, and there were also 4-person tables and a few raised seating areas, which seemed lively for group gatherings in the evening. While the service was decent, there were some points of concern, and as the other customers left during my visit, it felt a bit pressured at the counter. Depending on the menu chosen at Shoungetsu, the impression may vary, and I wonder if its unique charm will continue to develop. I received a coupon for evening use, but the one-week validity period was a bit tight.
