Sapporo City, near the Keitosu-dori in Hiragishi 4-jo 3-chome. It's close to the izakaya I always go to (which is in Hiragishi 3-jo 6-chome), about a 10-minute walk from the Hiragishi subway station. I've been curious about this restaurant for a while, as I follow someone on Tabelog who is a regular here and their reviews made me want to visit. Finally, I made my first visit. I tried calling to make a reservation but couldn't get through (maybe it's busy?), so I took a chance and arrived a little before 7:00 pm. Luckily, there were seats available at the counter. Phew. I started with some hot sake, 2 servings of Chitosetsuru, but they seem to have some hidden gems too. The menu is full of things I want to try, but since it was my first visit, I stuck to the classics. I ordered green peppers (for some reason, I called this first), pork skewers, chicken tail, liver, and tsukune. There was also something on the menu called "umai". It caught my eye, so I ordered that too. I left the flavors up to them. There were a few items on the menu that I didn't recognize just by name. It's so much fun to have these kinds of menus (is this some sort of secret code in the yakitori world that I'm not aware of?). There are also various side dishes, and you can even have the yakitori served over rice in a bowl. All at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere inside is very cozy, almost like a place where regulars gather. There were two small parties having a good time at the counter, probably locals coming after work. This day (3/23) was the final open game at the Sapporo Dome. The Nippon-Ham Fighters vs. Yakult Swallows game was being broadcast inside the restaurant. I observed the place while sipping on sake. It's a very relaxing space. The pickled vegetables served as an appetizer are probably homemade. I liked that they were skewered, so I ate them with the skewer. The pork skewers arrived. Salt. They were not too thick, just the right thickness for me. The sweetness of the green onions combined well with the flavor. The chicken tail and tsukune arrived. Both were salted. The chicken was firm and each bite was full of flavor. The tsukune was half eaten as is, and the rest was eaten with the green peppers that arrived later. Delicious. They matched well. The tsukune and green peppers were a perfect match. The way the green peppers were cooked was superb. The husband and what I assume to be his son were behind the grill. The son was mainly cooking, but the husband occasionally gave advice or helped out. Perhaps it's a succession period. The "umai" dish arrived. Salted. It was indeed delicious. I asked and found out that it was made from removing the fatty parts of pork. It had a good texture, and the flavor came out more with each bite. I ordered a highball. Probably Suntory Kakubin. By that time, the liver also arrived. This one was in sauce. The liver had a slight chewiness and was delicious. The sauce was to my liking as well. I enjoyed every dish (this time I only had skewers) very much. There are still many dishes I want to try. In other words, there are still many joys to look forward to. (laughs) The quiet husband, but I had a little chat with him at the time of payment. He was very friendly and kind. The wife even walked me to the entrance and said some thoughtful words. It's easy to see why this place is popular. Thank you for the delicious meal.
