I went to Kurahara at Shin Minato Taru Market for the first time in a while. Last time, I tried their gelato and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. This time, I bought some bread and soft serve ice cream. The bread I got was called "Ringo-chan" (150 yen) and although it's hard to tell from the photo, it was quite big, about the size of a face. The shop has a retro feel like an old-fashioned bakery, so the bread itself was nothing special, just average, but I quite liked it. The tartness of the apple was really nice. The soft serve ice cream had three flavors to choose from: vanilla, chocolate, and mix. I chose the mix soft serve, which I think was 300 yen. I sat at the bus stop next door to eat it. It was a creamy and smooth milk-based soft serve. It was really delicious! It's definitely my kind of flavor. I'll definitely come back again.

After having soup curry for lunch, I started craving soft serve or ice cream as usual. I thought about where to go in Otaru, and I vaguely remembered that there was a bakery at the Shin Minato Market that I rarely visit. I came to check it out and found it! It's Kurihara Bakery. Next to it, there is a spacious resting area which is perfect for eating. Although it's a bakery, they also offer soft serve ice cream and gelato. I decided to go with gelato this time. A single scoop costs 250 yen, and a double scoop costs 300 yen. It's affordable and I'm happy about that. I got a double scoop of matcha and strawberry. I usually prefer cones, so I got it in a cone. Wow! Both matcha and strawberry flavors are rich and delicious! The cone is a bit cheap, but considering the price, it's okay. My dessert craving after curry is completely satisfied now. Time to head back. Next time, I'll make sure to buy some bread too. Thank you for the meal!

▼Location▼
Located on the 1st floor of the Shin Minato Market in the Tsukiko area.
▼About the Shop▼
Established in 1978, this bakery chain is popular in the Otaru area. The main store is located in the Irifune intersection, with 5 stores in total in Otaru. This branch is located in the Shin Minato Market in the Tsukiko area.
▼Menu▼
They mainly offer soft bread and also sell soft-serve ice cream.
▼Food Tried▼
▽Salt Bread 86 yen▽
(2017.05) This salt bread looks more like a roll bread. The texture of the dough is closer to a roll bread than French bread. It has a subtle buttery flavor and is simple but not bad.
▽Cream Bread 130 yen▽
(2017.05) The dough is fluffy and has a decent texture. The cream inside is a moderately sweet custard and tastes quite good.
▼Impressions▼
(2017.05) This popular bakery chain, established in 1978 in Otaru, has its main store in Irifune and other branches in markets and commercial facilities like Nagasaki-ya. This branch is located inside the Shin Minato Market. The selection is not extensive, with a focus on soft bread at reasonable prices. The bread here has a simple, nostalgic feel and is reliably tasty. If I have the chance to visit Otaru again, I would like to stop by the main store in Irifune.

Established 30 years ago, the new Minami-Otaru Market store of Kurihara Bakery, which has expanded as a chain in Otaru, is a place I wanted to explore thoroughly, but due to time constraints, I decided to focus on two stores and do some shopping. I purchased the Fermented Butter Square Loaf and Half-size Rye Square Loaf, both with a simple taste. The rye bread was not too difficult to eat, but I found the Fermented Butter Square Loaf to be more enjoyable. When eaten with milk or coffee in the morning, it was even more delicious. Both breads were tasty when toasted, with a fragrant aroma. I received a little extra treat from the kind and cheerful motherly staff, which made me feel warm inside. Overall rating: 3.3 Taste: 3.3 Service: 3.4 Atmosphere: 3.0 Cost performance: 3.3 Drink: - Address: Kurihara Bakery, New Minami-Otaru Market Store, 8-11 Tsukisaki, Otaru City, Hokkaido ☆☆☆ Next Preview ☆☆☆ I plan to buy bread from other Kurihara Bakery locations as well.

In April 2016, I visited Otaru, a city I love, which is easily accessible from Sapporo via the highway. This time, I took a detour and enjoyed a drive while visiting. The Shin Minato Market was very crowded on weekends. I bought several types of bread from this bakery. I had the fish fry sandwich, which was crispy and delicious with no fishy taste. The lettuce was fresh. The coppe bread had a soft and fluffy texture. All the bread was reasonably priced. I would love to stop by again when I visit this market. Thank you for the meal! ✿ฺ(๑´ڡ`๑)✿ฺ.

A friendly bakery that has been popular for a long time. They have a variety of handmade breads, with some daily specials that are very affordable. All the breads are delicious. The bean bread is big and a great deal. The red bean donuts and cream donuts are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, without any greasy taste. They are really tasty. The Noel bread is also rich in butter, sweet, and very satisfying to eat. If you visit Minatomaru Market, be sure to check out this bakery located towards the back. It's a simple bakery, but you won't be disappointed.

This is a shop I often use when shopping at the Shin-minato Market. The main store is located in Irifune Junction. It used to be a video rental store. When browsing through the fish at the Shin-minato Market, I often get lured by the sweet smell of bread and cakes. I like to buy miso bread (castella) and raisin bread. I also tried the garlic rusk. It has a fantastic garlic flavor and once you start eating it, you just can't stop (laughs). It must go well with alcohol. It's conveniently located right across from the Fukazawa Shokudo. They also have ice cream always available, which is perfect for the upcoming season. I usually buy bread while shopping for fish at this market, but I recently discovered a very delicious-looking hamburger! It's labeled as "Hamburger (200 yen)". Unlike the patties in major chain store hamburgers, this hamburger from Kurihara has a homemade feel. It may not be very juicy, but the texture is excellent with a dense and substantial patty. It's thick and very filling! When measured, it was 25mm thick! It's more like "bread with a hamburger patty in between", maintaining its original form. I wonder if one of these would be enough for lunch.

Personally, I love the chocolate marble bread here, and I feel like I have it every time I come to Otaru. It's not like regular bread where the chocolate is kneaded into the dough, but the bread itself has a marble pattern with chocolate cream sandwiched in between. The combination is exquisite. There are many different kinds of bread, and they are not your typical ones, with some unique options available. While they are all delicious, most of the bread here tends to be soft, so if you prefer harder, more traditional bread, you may not appreciate it as much. It's more like a local bakery, which gives it a nostalgic feel. Back in the day, it used to only be at the Irifune Market, and I remember always stopping by when I passed by, as it was always crowded.

I visited for the first time, and the bread was very soft and delicious. I found this bakery while strolling through the streets from Minami-Otaru Station to Otaru Station. It is located facing the national highway, so it was easy to find. The parking lot is a bit far away, so it's best to visit on foot. The bread was not too hard, but it was not ordinary either, and I really liked it. The pumpkin bread was especially delicious. The mugwort red bean bread had just the right amount of sweetness in the red bean paste! I would like to go back and buy more.
