The state of emergency is still ongoing, I hope the measures will start showing some effect. I started my curry activities a year ago in May. Curry spices are said to boost immunity! With quick service, short stay time, and the ability to eat and leave quickly, curry is perfect for lunch during the pandemic. On this day, I enjoyed my favorite Nepalese cuisine at "Manakamana" in Kitahama, Osaka. The recommended dish is the "Dal Bhat" set, a traditional Nepalese vegetarian meal consisting of beans and vegetables. The restaurant offers an authentic taste of Nepal, not a Japanese-style imitation. The Dal Bhat set includes chutney, basmati rice, pickles, sautéed vegetables, homemade yogurt, bean soup, fermented vegetable soup, and lassi. The flavors were rich and the dishes were reminiscent of home-cooked Nepalese food. The potato spiced stir-fry was delicious, and the basmati rice was fluffy and fragrant. It felt like a taste of Nepal in Japan.

The other day, I mentioned that we should try the curry at this place, so during the Golden Week holiday, we ended up going there with my family (lol). We drove there and easily found parking at a nearby private parking lot. As we walked towards the restaurant, we saw a customer descending the spiral staircase a few meters ahead. We thought the restaurant might be full, but luckily the owner came out and escorted us to a spacious tatami room in the back. Lucky us! We sat down as a party of two in the large room. We looked for the Nepalese national dish on the menu but couldn't find it. When we asked the staff, we found out that it had been renamed (from Nepalese national dish to Nepalese lunch). The price had slightly increased (from 850 yen to 900 yen). We both ordered the regular portion of rice made with Japanese rice. For drinks, we ordered lassi and banana lassi after the meal. While we waited, we were asked to move to a table that had just become available. Of course, we agreed and quickly made the move. Soon after, a group of six new customers entered. Perfect timing! (lol) The Nepalese lunch came with instructions on how to eat it, both in a diagram on the table and verbally explained beforehand, so my family was able to start eating smoothly once the food was served. Everything on the plate, including the curry and all the other dishes, was delicious, so they were very satisfied. They especially liked the seasoning of the stir-fried greens and potatoes. My family is a light eater unlike me (lol), but they enjoyed the Nepalese lunch so much that they finished everything, including the lassi, and ended up super full. When we got home, they only had a small portion of vegetable salad for dinner. Perhaps due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ingredient costs and distribution, there was a 50 yen price increase from before, but the value for money is still more than worth it, and I think it's wonderful. It was very delicious. Thank you very much. We will visit again. ^^

This is my first time visiting this restaurant. I went for lunch with a female friend and we were in the mood for something ethnic, so we chose curry. The interior is decorated in Nepalese style, making you feel like you're actually in Nepal. The lunch set was quite cost-effective, costing just over 1000 yen and even came with lassi. We chose chicken curry and keema curry, but the taste was just average. However, we left feeling satisfied after eating the curry. Also, the restroom was extremely hot... haha. Thank you for the meal.

Nepalese & Indian cuisine Manakamana in Osaka, where I stumbled upon after not finding the right place due to lack of land survey. The lunch set was ¥950, with a drink included, and I opted for the Nepalese set meal. It included Kukra Korma (bone-in chicken soup curry), Alu Achar (spiced potato salad), Sag (stir-fried greens), Achar (pickles), Piro Chutney (spicy sauce), and white rice. You could upgrade to Basmati rice for an additional ¥200. The spiciness level could be chosen from regular to very very hot, with no extra charge for increasing the heat. I went for very very hot, but it wasn't as spicy as expected. The meal was enjoyable, and I also had a delicious Banana Lassi as my drink. The portion was surprisingly generous, and you could get a free refill of rice. They also offered takeaway with Naan and curry for only ¥600. Overall, a satisfying Nepalese lunch experience!

I had spice curry before coming to this shop, but the portion was not enough, so I went to a second lunch place. It was past 2 pm on a weekday, and there were a few other customers, so I was seated at the counter right next to the register. However, as soon as everyone finished eating, I was left alone. I ate quickly in front of the staff washing dishes and working in front of the counter. I really wanted to eat slowly... I feel so pathetic. Thank you for the meal. Today's daily curry was butter chicken curry, ordered very very hot. My super spicy sensor did not react.

Located underground in a building on the right side after crossing the first street to the east at the intersection of Sakaisuji Hiranocho 1. It was great that they were open for lunch even during Obon. The lunch menu includes one type of Nepalese lunch curry in A set, two types of curry in B set plus chicken tikka, and two types of curry in C set plus tandoori chicken and shrimp. Each ABC set comes with naan, rice, salad, and a drink. I chose the B set with vegetable curry and chicken curry, with the spiciness level set to very very hot, along with an iced coffee. The curry wasn't extremely spicy, just enough to make me sweat a bit due to the combination of spiciness and heat in the slightly warm air conditioning. The iced coffee was refreshing and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The curry shop I wanted to go to was closed, so I ended up coming here since it was nearby. It was a bit past lunchtime but the restaurant was quite crowded. I ordered the Nepalese set meal. The spiciness level goes up to max at "Very Hot," but I ordered an even spicier one. The side dishes and curry were all satisfying. The staff was not particularly friendly, which was unusual. Thank you for the meal.

When you want to have naan for lunch on the weekend, this is the place to go. They used to offer free refills on naan, but not anymore. I usually go for the chicken and keema as my default choices. I always choose the lunch set where you can pick two types of curry. The taste is always spot on and delicious. I finish off with a lassi after the meal. Thank you for the meal.

Saturday night visit. Ordered Tamariset Curry Set (Bone-in Goat Meat), Jingamanana (Tomato and Cashew Cream, Shrimp), Ice Chai, Veggie Dumplings. The lamb charcoal-grilled dumplings were chewy like xiaolongbao but not as addictive. The lamb was tender and not smelly. The Kashikomasu was more like a stew than curry. My husband loved it. Jingamanana was like a butter chicken curry, not spicy but sweet and heavy due to the cream. The only downside was the chai being too weak. Maybe lassi would be better?

This is a restaurant that serves Chicken Dal Bhat for ¥1480, North Indian curry, and Nepalese curry. I saw the word Dal Bhat in front of the shop, so I decided to go in. I ordered the Chicken Dal Bhat. The Dal (bean soup) was cooked until the vegetables were no longer recognizable, and the composition of the Dal Bhat included Dal, chicken curry, stir-fried greens, spiced potatoes, chili paste, pickles, and yogurt. You can adjust the mixing ratio according to your preference while eating. The containers for Dal and chicken curry were placed on the table with the warning that they were very hot. When I touched them, they were indeed very hot! Thanks to these thick metal containers, I was able to enjoy warm curry until the end. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. 6.8

It was an underground and stylish space. I used it for a date. We sat at the counter seat and enjoyed looking at the bottles on the shelves and the decorations in the shop. The naan and curry were delicious, and among Indian curry restaurants, this place ranks quite high. I had the chicken curry and could taste various flavors in the broth. I will definitely come back!

I came here because I wanted to try the weekend special biryani set! They have Chicken Day and Mutton Day, but I came for the mutton! Bone-in mutton special biryani set with a soft drink for 1580 yen. 1. Bone-in mutton biryani 2. Dal Makhani (Mughlai-style lentil curry) 3. Raita 4. Mint chutney 5. Tomato chutney 6. Papad 7. Tapa-san's creamy spiced egg. It's amazing! I've been exploring different curry places in Osaka, but this is definitely in my top 3. It's incredibly delicious. Not just the mutton biryani, but when you mix everything together, the flavors explode. The combination of lentil curry and mutton biryani is outstanding! There's also carrot pickle on the table, which adds a nice touch. It looks beautiful, tastes great, and the balance is perfect. I got a banana lassi for my drink. Very satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

Located in the Kitahama area of Osaka, the Nepalese and Indian cuisine restaurant "Manakamana" has been selected as one of the top 100 ethnic restaurants! The restaurant is run by owner Tapa and five Nepalese and Indian chefs, each showcasing their skills in various positions. The dishes are slightly adjusted to suit Japanese tastes, but still maintain the authentic flavors of Indian curry. I visited the restaurant on a rainy Friday afternoon around 1 pm and was surprised to find that the entire place was packed with customers. I was offered a seat at a shared table in the back, but a kind customer offered to vacate their seat at the counter, so I waited for it to become available. For lunch, I ordered the "A Lunch Set" which included curry, naan, rice, salad, and a drink. I chose the Chicken Curry with medium spiciness. The butter chicken curry was creamy and delicious, with a perfect balance of sweetness. The naan was fluffy and well-baked, while the rice was made from Japanese rice, offering a slightly sweet and sticky texture. The salad was simple but sufficient, and the lassi drink was thick and flavorful. Overall, I was very satisfied with the meal, as the Indian curry had a familiar and enjoyable taste. The restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere, and the service provided by Tapa and the staff was excellent. The cost-performance of the lunch set was also great, making it a highly recommended spot in Osaka's Kitahama area. I would rate it 3.7 out of 5 stars, almost reaching the level of the top 100 restaurants. If you have the chance, I recommend visiting Manakamana for a delicious Indian and Nepalese dining experience.

In the business district near Osaka Kitahama and Yodoyabashi, it is quite rare to find shops open on Sundays. This time, I wanted to eat Indian curry (or maybe Nepalese curry?) with naan, so I went to this restaurant. It is located on the basement floor of a building a little off the main street, but there are large signs and menus outside, so it is not hard to find. For lunch, they offer Nepalese lunch, A lunch, B lunch, and C lunch options. The Indian (Nepalese?) staff members are polite and provide detailed explanations, although their pronunciation can be a bit difficult to understand at times. I chose the C lunch, which allows you to choose two types of curry from chicken, vegetable, and keema, along with a drink (I chose chicken and vegetable curry with iced coffee). The lunch arrived shortly, and the curry was not too spicy and easy to eat. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the set included a large naan, a small portion of rice, a small salad, tandoori chicken, grilled shrimp, the chosen curries, and the drink, all for 1,000 yen. It was a great value for the price.

It's been a while since I visited Manakamana. This time I ordered Lunch C. I made a special request to change the naan to roti without rice (price may vary). I also had a glass of white wine. Today's curry was made with shimeji mushrooms and chicken, which was a fantastic combination. The chilled wine paired perfectly with the curry and roti. The tandoori chicken was also delicious, with a spicy green sauce that was excellent. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

There were a lot of places I wanted to visit, so I decided to come here. It's an underground restaurant. It was midday but almost full. Oh, I didn't know they had Biryani on weekends. It's Sunday, so I'll go for that. I prefer chicken, but this week it's mutton... oh well, I'll have the Biryani. The special mutton Biryani for 1580 yen arrived on a silver plate. It looks delicious. The Biryani itself is not very spicy and easy to eat. The mutton is plentiful... but mutton tends to have a strong smell. The mutton here... hmm, it's quite strong. The Dal Makhani, which was described as curry, turned out to be something different. It had a rich creamy taste. Delicious! It didn't match my idea of curry at all, more like a Western or European dish. It tasted like Stroganoff or stew. So delicious, but what is this? I was so intrigued that I searched about it on the spot. Dal Makhani is a traditional Indian curry made with lots of butter and cream. "Makhani" means butter, and it's a traditional dish passed down from the Mughal Empire, cooked with butter and spices. No wonder it has a Western, buttery and creamy taste. Oh, this is the first time I've tried it, but it's delicious. It doesn't taste like curry at all. Lots of raita. I love raita. It goes well with Biryani. I also enjoyed the mint chutney. A bit spicy. They don't serve this often in Japan. Next to it was tomato chutney! This one was also delicious. So flavorful. I could just lick this all day. There was also a spiced egg called "Tapa-san's spiced egg" on the side. Today, the highlight was definitely the Dal Makhani. I wonder if they serve it as a standalone dish too? This was delicious. I might end up choosing mutton again just to have this. It may not have the typical curry spiciness or flavor, but it was really good. Thank you for the meal.

I had delicious curry at Manakamana, a Nepalese and Indian restaurant in Kitahama. I ordered the Dinner Set A for 1980 yen and a draft beer for 420 yen. The chicken kebab was so tasty! Every dish I tried was delicious, with no disappointments. The curry could have been a bit spicier, so I want to try something hotter next time. I visited the restaurant alone, and even though it was bustling inside, it didn't feel uncomfortable at all.

Located in the business district of Kitahama! When I went down the stairs to the basement, I thought it might be full, but there was a tatami room in the back that can seat about 8 people! I ordered the "North Indian set meal C lunch" for ¥1000! Today's curry was "Spinach & Mushroom Curry"! I also ordered another dish, "Chicken Curry", as you can choose one more item! The set includes naan, tandoori chicken, shrimp, salad, rice, and chai for this price!! I am very satisfied! Thank you for the meal!! Oh! The staff member, who I think is from India, is extremely fluent in Japanese and answers detailed questions perfectly! Amazing!! Thank you very much!!

The naan was delicious! A colleague at work recommended this place, so I decided to visit for lunch. The lunch menu offers Nepalese lunch, A lunch, B lunch, and C lunch. This time, I ordered the B lunch (chicken curry, vegetable curry, naan, chicken tikka, and chai) for ¥900. You can choose the level of spiciness, and I chose normal. I'm not good with spicy food, but the spiciness here was just right for me. The curry had a mellow initial taste, followed by a delicious spiciness that paired perfectly with the large naan. I enjoyed it all very much. The chicken tikka was also tender and tasty. I came here for the curry and naan, but I'm curious about the other menu items as well. I would like to visit again at night next time.

I originally was looking for a restaurant that specializes in biryani, as I love it, and that's how I came across this place. Biryani is only available on the second and fourth Saturdays, and you can choose between chicken and mutton. The taste is really good, but the side dishes are limited and the portion is small. I found that ordering the standard naan and curry set is more cost-effective as you get to try a variety of dishes. I usually go for the C set, which includes two curries, salad, naan, tandoori chicken, and tandoori shrimp, along with a drink. Since the naan is large, I always add an extra curry for an additional 150 yen. This time, I tried changing the naan to cheese naan (additional 300 yen) and ordered keema, chicken, and the daily special curry. The daily special was an eggplant curry, which was similar in taste to the chicken curry. Usually, they have a variety of spinach curries, so this was a bit of a letdown in terms of trying different flavors. However, the eggplant was still delicious. The cheese naan was loaded with cheese and felt more like pizza, even more so than at a pizza place. It was satisfying on its own, but of course, it was also delicious dipped in the curry. The chicken, being bone-in, had a lot of flavor and was easy to eat without being dry. The shrimp was tandoori-style and tasted great when eaten with the accompanying sauce. I chose iced chai for my drink. The total bill came to 1450 yen, with the C set priced at 1000 yen and the additional changes. It's a great deal for all that you get, and I will definitely come back when I'm in the area again.

There are tables and a counter, so you can find individuals dining alone as well as lively groups enjoying drinks. The lunch plate is also available for dinner, making it easy for solo diners to visit. The curry is light and not too oily, with a broth-like flavor that doesn't weigh heavy on the stomach. The long Indian rice is also great, giving a healthy and light feeling when eating. The portion size is just right. Overall, everything feels just right, so I would rate it a solid 4 out of 5. I haven't tried the momo yet, but the plate and momo together might be a lot for one person, so I'd like to try it next time when dining with someone else.

My friend who used to frequently go out for Nepalese cuisine highly recommended this restaurant. Just like with Japanese cuisine, I also have a strong love for Nepalese cuisine and at one point, I only ate Nepalese food. I finally visited this restaurant for weekend lunch. It was past 1pm and there was only one large table available, so I ended up sharing it with others. I ordered the classic Nepalese set meal for ¥900, which included lentil soup and other dishes. The lentil soup was spicier compared to other places, which was a new experience for me. The vegetable curry, which my friend highly praised, was a bit disappointing. The vegetables were overcooked, so I couldn't really taste their texture or flavor. The curry itself was too simple and didn't excite me. The spinach was average, the rice was average, and the potatoes were too cold, which was a downside. The pickles, on the other hand, were extremely delicious - maybe even the best part of the meal. I would recommend this restaurant to those who haven't tried Nepalese cuisine much before.
