Kojimaya is a long-established Japanese sweets shop in Sakai, known for their signature sweet called "Keshi Mochi." This traditional treat, created during the Enpo era (1673-1681), consists of sweet red bean paste wrapped in mochi skin and topped with "Keshi no Mi" seeds. I tried the Keshi Mochi roll for 260 yen (tax included) and the Keshi Mochi set for 200 yen (tax included), both of which were delicious. However, I was particularly impressed by the taste of the Keshi Mochi. Thank you for the wonderful treats! Check out my detailed review here: [link]

~Meikoya Chaho's Famous Sweets~ [Sakai Specialty Keshi Mochi] Get it ⭐ It came in a sturdy box with compartments. It's palm-sized. When I took a bite, the texture of the mustard seeds was interesting! It was coated densely around the mochi. Even when picked up to eat, the mustard seeds prevented my hands from getting dirty, which was convenient ⭐ Inside, there was quite a sweet red bean paste. I enjoyed it with tea, and it was delicious!

I tried the "keshi mochi" here. I didn't know that Sakai was famous for keshi. The soft mochi is filled with smooth koshi-an. The mochi has a soft texture similar to gyuhi, which is very pleasant. It has a wonderful aroma and goes well with coffee.

The place seems to be different from the main branch. I heard that there were various things in the past. Since the main branch was closed, I visited here for the first time. There is also a café and parking lot, so it seems easy to enter. I usually order Nikki, but this time they said they don't have it and instead use wheat. I tried it and felt like it was different from the main branch. There are various differences, huh.

Kojimaya
I visited Kojimaya for the first time to buy a gift for my mother's errand. I had passed by the store many times before, but had never visited. The store has a cafe on the second floor, but it was closed today. The display inside the store had various sweets like yokan, roll cake, and keshi mochi, which made me drool. I also bought keshi mochi for myself before leaving. It was a delicately sweet keshi mochi.

I tried the specialty item from Sakai, called "Gomame Mochi" in the form of a roll cake. The second floor is a cafe where you can enjoy it. When you get it to go, you can only buy a whole Gomame Mochi roll, but at the cafe, they cut it for you which is convenient. The "Gomame Mochi Roll" costs 260 yen. It's a roll cake with cream and a Gomame (mustard seed) steamed bun in the middle. There's also Gomame on top of the roll cake. It's quite delicious. I also had some matcha shaved ice. This ice gives you a feeling of actually eating ice (^_^;)

Along the Kishu Highway, you can see a sign for "keshi mochi." It seems that there are many traditional Japanese sweet shops in Sakai, perhaps influenced by Sen no Rikyu's tea ceremony. Keshi mochi is a traditional sweet that has even been presented to the Emperor. We purchased a 6-piece set for 882 yen to take out. The small round mochi balls have a thin, stretchy mochi coating covered with finely crushed poppy seeds, giving them a unique crunchy texture. The sweet bean paste inside is delicately sweet, making it a perfect treat to enjoy with tea.

I bought some Kesimochi to take home. It was my first time trying it. I liked the texture of the Kesimochi, with its small grains and good chewiness. The mochi was soft and the sweet red bean paste was just right. I finished it in no time. It can last for a few days, so I should have bought more... They also sold white rice cakes without Kesimochi (made from potato starch). I'm curious about the roll cake and the tea house too...! I would like to visit again sometime.

"I received some keshi mochi from 'Kojimaya Yasuyoshi,' a traditional Japanese confectionery store, as a gift from a friend who came from Osaka to Tokyo. 'Kojimaya Yasuyoshi' was established during the Enpo era (1673-1681) and has been making keshi mochi for generations. Keshi mochi is a traditional Japanese sweet created during the Muromachi period, believed to have been inspired by tea master Sen no Rikyu as a confectionery for tea ceremonies. It consists of sweet bean paste wrapped in mochi skin, with keshi seeds sprinkled on the surface of the mochi, providing an interesting texture. The keshi mochi from 'Kojimaya' comes in a box of 6 pieces and should be consumed within 4 days of production. When eaten, the sweetness of the bean paste and the fragrance of the keshi seeds are prominent, along with the unique texture of the crunchy keshi seeds and soft mochi. It was a delightful treat."

Just a minute's walk from Sakai-Sakai Dentetsu Yadori Station, I visited "Kojimaya," famous for Sakai's specialty mustard mochi. The first floor of the building is a confectionery shop, while the second floor is a tea room. The shop has a grand appearance, with a wide variety of traditional Japanese sweets displayed in the showcase. Going up the stairs to the tea room, it is bright and lovely. This time, I tried the following items:
- Mustard Mochi Roll: It looks like a Western-style roll cake with sweet bean paste wrapped in mochi in the center, surrounded by whipped cream and rolled in sponge cake. Mustard seeds are sprinkled on the outside. The harmony of whipped cream and sweet bean paste is excellent, and the sponge cake is delicious, making it irresistible for those with a sweet tooth.
- Mustard Mochi: A mochi with sweet bean paste inside and mustard seeds sprinkled on the outside. The freshly made mustard mochi was soft and very delicious. When you take it home and the skin hardens, it is recommended to bake it in a toaster oven for 2-3 minutes to soften the skin.
I enjoyed them with matcha and coffee. Thank you for the meal.

Menu: 6 pieces of Keshi mochi
The chewy texture of the Keshi mochi is popular with my family, so I bought it as a souvenir. I purchased the same Keshi mochi at the main store, Kojima, last time, so this time I bought it at Kojimaya. The color of the Keshi seeds is whiter at Kojimaya compared to the main store, Kojima. I wonder if Kojimaya and the main store, Kojima, are related? Thank you for the meal.

This place is famous for its Kesimochi. Sometimes I suddenly crave it. The unique popping texture is like no other. I like that the sweet bean paste inside is not too overwhelming. This time I bought it at Takashimaya. It's convenient for those who are far away and don't have to go to the store.

Today's sweets
Today, I had delicious soba in Sakai City, so I decided to stop by a nearby Japanese confectionery shop called "Kojimaya". I was torn between getting a kandama or something else, but I remembered a recommendation from a follower to try Kojimaya. I walked over from Sowaka and found out that they only serve food and drinks starting from 12 pm. Since I had some time to spare, I moved my car from the coin parking to Kojimaya's private parking lot. I ordered:
- Keshi Mochi (200 yen)
- Blend Coffee (400 yen)
Total: 600 yen (including tax)
It was my first time trying Keshi Mochi. It was a cute size with a nice appearance. When I tasted it, I enjoyed the popping texture of the keshi seeds. The mochi was soft and delicious, and the sweet bean paste had a refined sweetness that was incredibly tasty. I will definitely come back again! Thank you for the meal!

A long-established Japanese confectionery shop in Sakai. I have loved their "keshi mochi" since I was a child. Whenever my aunt from Osaka visits my mother in Tokyo, she always brings this as a souvenir, which I remember fondly. I found it at a souvenir shop in Shin-Osaka Station. Since there is no listing for the store, I am posting this at the main store. "Keshi mochi" is a sweet bean paste wrapped in mochi skin and sprinkled with "keshi nuts." I chose a pack of 6 for 907 yen, as they don't last long and I bought other sweets as well. The texture of the keshi nuts and mochi skin is great. The sweet bean paste is just right in sweetness and delicious. This unique texture is only found in this product. I will definitely buy it again if I have the chance to visit Osaka.

Sakai specialty, "keshi mochi." One of the long-established shops is here. "This is delicious, so try it," I was given by an acquaintance living in Sakai. Keshi mochi roll. I thought I should thaw it in the refrigerator as instructed, but when I returned home after a few hours by car, it had melted nicely, haha. "Soft sponge with finely crushed keshi seeds," "not too sweet whipped cream," "perfectly sweetened red bean paste on the mochi." This is delicious! We enjoyed it with my family over two days (・∀・) Thank you for giving us this high-quality dessert that is definitely not cheap! Next time, please treat me at the tea house on the second floor!

Located right near Terajimachi Station on the Hankai Tramway, this establishment is in Sakai, which was a central hub of commerce in Japan from the Azuchi-Momoyama period to the end of the Sengoku period. Sakai was known for producing firearms and gathering specialty products from various regions, as well as being the birthplace of the tea ceremony culture that continues to influence traditional Japanese sweets. Among the many longstanding traditional sweet shops in the area, "Kojimaya" seems to be one of them, with a history dating back to the late Edo period. They offer a wide variety of traditional Japanese sweets, but their most popular item is the "keshi mochi" - a perfect balance of sweet red bean paste and fragrant poppy seeds that is so delicious you'll find yourself reaching for a second or third piece. While I haven't personally visited, it seems they have a café space on the second floor. Their products are also available at department stores like Takashimaya, but if you ever find yourself in Sakai, I highly recommend picking up some as a gift or treat for yourself!

Located a 2-3 minute walk from Suin Station, there is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop called Kojimaya. This shop is famous for its poppy seed mochi, which is made using spices and is also known as the "poppy" mochi. While poppy seeds are well known as the raw material for opium, the seeds themselves are often used in cooking, such as being sprinkled on top of anko buns. This time, I ordered the popular matcha set. The chewy texture of the poppy seeds and the rich sweetness of the anko in the mochi paired perfectly with the slightly bitter flavor of the matcha, creating a set that made me feel like I could eat endless amounts of mochi and matcha. If you happen to be strolling around Minami in Osaka on the streetcar, be sure to visit this shop. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I visited the café aiming for lunch. There was no one before me, and 4 customers came in after me. I ordered 1 Keshi Mochi roll and 1 Sencha set. The Keshi Mochi roll has Keshi Mochi inside the roll, with Keshi on the outside of the roll. The Sencha tea today was from Chiran in Kagoshima. They also provided hot water refills. As a souvenir, I bought 2 Keshi Mochi. If you post on Instagram, you will receive 3 Keshi Mochi as a present. Thank you!

There is a shop near the original Kojimaya that sells mustard mochi, and it seems to be focused on mustard mochi. There is a cafe on the second floor. Mustard mochi is famous in Sakai, and there were signs at other confectionery shops saying they have started selling mustard mochi. I couldn't really tell the difference between the original Kojimaya and the other shop, but both were delicious.

I visited the takeout counter at 12:15. There is also a café on the 2nd floor where you can try the keshi mochi roll. There was 1 customer before me and no customers after me. Keshi mochi is a famous confectionery in Sakai. The other shop was closed on Mondays. I ordered 1 keshi mochi and 1 mochi made of potato starch.
