On a certain weekday, I had lunch at a restaurant in Toyohira-ku, Tsukisamu Higashi, which I learned about from a respected reviewer's review. It is a place that serves soba and coffee and is located in a place I don't usually pass by. There seems to be a parking lot in front of the store for about four cars. The restaurant, with a house-like appearance, has table seats that look like an old-fashioned public dining hall, and a tatami-raised seating area. As I glanced to the left, I noticed a slightly Western-style counter seat. Jazz music with a calm atmosphere is playing loudly in the background. On this day, as I couldn't find any rice set on the menu, I decided to go for something that would look good in photos, so I ordered the "Cold Zaru Soba (750 yen)" and, since I was there, I also ordered a "Strong Coffee (Set 250 yen)" for after the meal. Let's take a bite... The soba noodles were a light gray color close to white, with a moderate firmness and a slight flavor. The dipping sauce seemed to be on the lighter side, suitable for zaru soba, with a gentle taste of soy sauce, fish, sweetness, all together creating a mellow flavor with a hint of acidity that can be poured generously and eaten heartily, and it was the type of sauce that could be easily finished till the end. The toppings included cucumber, kamaboko (fish cake), grated daikon radish, tenkasu (tempura scraps), and green onions, and I also received a milky white soba water. Next, the strong coffee was prepared using hand drip (probably paper)... Huh? I heard a boiling sound from the kitchen at the end... Oh! They didn't ask about sugar or milk for the coffee, so they must have known everything, right? Well then... Hmm, the temperature after completion and boiling once is better than being lukewarm. In terms of flavor, it is indeed strong. That's all... I suddenly thought about how difficult it must be to predict the number of customers and the demand for coffee, and how much coffee beans to purchase. I hope they continue to work hard to provide delicious soba and coffee. Thank you for the meal.
