Title: "Normal after a long time..."
The title says "Normal after a long time..." but in the previous review from 2 years ago, I also had the "Morning Ramen" in normal style. However, during these 2 years, I have had a total of 9 morning ramen meals at other "Yamaokaya" locations, all of which were custom morning ramen with toppings. After trying various combinations, I found that the best combination for me is double topping of flavored egg and green onions, without the plum paste. This time, I really wanted to eat Yamaokaya's morning ramen, so after 2 years and 2 months, I went to the Chitose store and tried the completely normal morning ramen again.
Due to the recent yen appreciation and the impact of the situation in Ukraine, the prices of various goods have risen, and the morning ramen at Yamaokaya has also increased to 510 yen. When I ate at the "Shindo store" in May, it was 490 yen, so there has been a 20 yen increase in the past 2-3 months. By the way, when I ate at the "Chitose store" 2 years and 2 months ago, it was 470 yen. Once it goes over 500 yen, it doesn't feel significantly cheap anymore, but of course, other regular menu items have also increased in price, so relatively speaking, it is still a good deal.
After trying the normal morning ramen again after a long time, I felt that first of all, it's a bit lonely without increasing the amount of green onions... Recently, I have been mostly having extra green onions or double extra green onions, so the normal amount was still not enough for me. Another thing is the plum paste, it really doesn't seem to match well... Maybe the intention is to make the tonkotsu soup refreshing for the morning, but personally, I feel like the plum flavor is a bit too strong. I think chopped pickled mustard greens would go well with this, what do you think?
Lastly, one thing that caught my attention was the chashu issue. The morning ramen I had 2 years ago had diced chashu, also known as korochaa, but this time it had the usual sliced chashu. The official Yamaokaya website's photo of the morning ramen now shows sliced chashu. Additionally, the regular menu mostly has sliced chashu, and only the negi ramen with white negi has diced chashu. It's a small detail, but I was a little curious about the intention behind using these two types of chashu.
