Maruyoshi Suisan operates a large souvenir shop. The sign with a crab sculpture can be seen from quite a distance. The roof of the store has a huge wooden bear and salmon sculpture, making a strong impact. The exterior is unforgettable once you see it. It is not a store that local residents would likely visit. The main customers are tourists from outside of Hokkaido, with tour buses making stops. There is also a restaurant attached to the shop. The sign outside says "Family Restaurant," but it is unclear if that is the official name of the restaurant. The restaurant is spacious, with table seating, and tatami seating, accommodating around 200 people. Additionally, there is a group-exclusive restaurant on the second floor, with an unknown maximum capacity. When I visited before noon, there were about 6 middle-aged men in work clothes chatting at a table, clearly not customers. I was told I could sit wherever I liked, so I chose a seat away from the men. Some tables had preparations for reserved crab hot pot. The menu offers a wide variety of seafood dishes, with a focus on crab dishes due to the name "Kani Goten." However, this time I ordered a miso ramen set with 5 pieces of sushi, which is said to be popular with bus drivers. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the sushi was taken from the souvenir shop to the kitchen. It seems that the sushi is prepared in a different location. Soon, the miso ramen and sushi set was served. The miso ramen included toppings such as green onions, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, fish cakes, seaweed, boiled egg, chashu, and fried sweet potato? Considering the price of 650 yen for individual items, it was a generous amount of toppings. The noodles seemed to be made by "Mochizuki Seimenjo"? The soup had a peculiar aftertaste, possibly due to adding something to the commercial sauce. It was the first time I had fried sweet potato as a ramen topping! It may not be the taste of a specialty store, but it was decent for ramen at a souvenir shop restaurant. The sushi brought by the souvenir shop was large in size, with thin slices of vinegar rice. It looked like the sushi you would see at a family restaurant, and the taste was similar as well. Since they specialize in seafood, using fresher ingredients might have made a difference in the evaluation. 650 yen for this seems expensive! Overall, the menu is priced confidently, catering to tourists. It is not a restaurant you would visit specifically for the purpose. There are not many large restaurants nearby, so it could be a good place to stop for a meal while on a drive. ※Overview of the sculptures on the roof: Bear - 15m in length, 10m in height, 8m in width, 30 tons in weight Salmon - 12m in length, 3m in height, 1.5m in width, 8 tons in weight The framework is made of steel, shaped with foam urethane, and finished with special plastic processing.
