#Hakodate Morning Market #Hakodate Morning Market Kani no Kitauru #Ichizen Donburi (Uni, Scallop, Surf Clam) - Skipped the breakfast at the hotel and took a taxi straight to the morning market. - While ignoring the calls from the touts, we strolled around and heard about the fresh squid available, so we decided to go in. - There were plenty of staff in the hall, but the kitchen was being run solo by an older man, so the service was a bit slow. - The live oysters were rich and delicious! - The squid lacked the chewy texture of live squid, but had a sticky sweetness that lingered on the palate. - Uni for three days in a row! As a lover of shellfish, I couldn't miss out on the Hokkaido scallops and live surf clams. It's a shame they didn't have vinegar rice, but we thoroughly enjoyed the morning market! - Realized foolishly after leaving the shop that there was another place I wanted to visit. - #Hakodate Gourmet #Hakodate Travel #Hakodate Sightseeing #Hakodate Morning Market Gourmet #Hokkaido #Hakodate #Hokkaido Gourmet #Hokkaido Travel #Hokkaido Sightseeing

When I went to Hokkaido, I had decided to eat hairy crab. As I stopped to look at the crabs in front of the store, the staff explained about crabs and sea urchins in detail, so I decided to eat at this store. I chose a 460g hairy crab and had it boiled. It took about 30 minutes for it to be ready, so in the meantime, I bought crab souvenirs and arranged for them to be shipped, ordered another dish, and waited for the crab to arrive. There were various menu items with prices that made me nervous, but I ordered what I wanted. There was sashimi with soy sauce for squid, where the legs move when you pour the sauce, but I opted for grilled squid. I had scallops and surf clams as sashimi. They were all delicious. And then, the main dish, the hairy crab. I thought it would be small, but there was quite a lot to eat. They recommended the summer hairy crab, which is soft after molting, and it was really good. There was plenty of crab miso. It was neatly cut and easy to eat, and warm. It's not something you can do at home.

Crab hunting led me here! At first, I was thinking of trying the impressive legs of the Taraba crab, which cost around 7000 yen for 2 legs. But then I was recommended to try the whole hairy crab, including the crab miso, for around 5000 yen. In addition, I also ordered the grilled Hokkigai for 880 yen and the live tsubugai sashimi for 1980 yen. The hairy crab turned out to be smaller than I expected, but the meat was plump and delicious, sweet with rich flavor, and of course, the miso was amazing. The grilled Hokkigai was incredibly delicious as well, highly recommend ordering it. The tsubugai was crunchy with a lovely taste of the sea. The scallop strings that we received as a service from the restaurant were also a nice treat, thank you. The staff were kind and the restaurant was great. Just a heads up, the restroom is located outside the restaurant as it is shared with the Hakodate Morning Market.

Arrived at Hakodate Station around 2:15 PM. Since the morning market was mostly closed, I went to "Kani no Kitau" which was still open. I hurried to order as they had last order at 2:30 PM and closed at 3 PM. I ordered a large bowl of sea urchin, crab soup, peony shrimp, scallop sashimi, grilled abalone, and boiled hairy crab. Everything was fresh, delicious, and had no unpleasant smell. Especially, the hairy crab was incredibly sweet and exquisite. Although it was a bit pricey for tourists, it was worth it to enjoy fresh seafood. Thank you for the meal!

I had saltwater sea urchin, Oshidomari Island additive-free purple sea urchin, fresh squid sashimi, and hokke set meal with Sapporo Classic for breakfast. The sea urchin was rich and delicious, perfectly cut and exquisite. The fresh squid sashimi was crunchy, and the hokke was extra large with a nice oily texture. Enjoying it with Sapporo Classic after a morning bath was the best.

Daily visits. Yesterday was Sunday and the market was closed. This morning, I aimed for sea urchin and found the Hakodate-produced saltwater Bafun sea urchin. Bought it immediately. Had a set meal with cod. The Hakodate-produced saltwater Bafun sea urchin was delicious. Also had a Yubari melon. The sea urchin had a rich flavor and was extremely delicious. Hakodate is the best! The Yubari melon was juicy and tasty. It was a blissful breakfast.

I stayed at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel with breakfast included, but since I didn't plan on using it, I received a coupon for 3000 yen at the hotel shop. I overslept and missed breakfast, so I went to Hokuyo for breakfast instead. I bought some crab at a local market and tried some samples, which led me to make a purchase. I ordered the recommended cod set meal and grilled mackerel, both of which were delicious. I also tried some squid, which was tasty. Despite wanting to drink alcohol, I refrained since I had to leave that day. The market street was cold with the snow falling, but I enjoyed exploring the various food stalls. Overall, the food was delicious, and I realized that I still have a preference for fish dishes, although I also started craving meat. Japan truly has a lot of delicious food to offer. It's important to bring cash when traveling, as many places do not accept cards. I was able to enjoy some delicious food early in the morning!

On the final day of the trip on October 21, we had breakfast at the buffet at "La Vista Hakodate Bay," known as the most delicious in Hokkaido. We checked out of the hotel at 9:45 and walked 1km to the Hakodate Morning Market. We first stopped at "Hakodate Roman-kan" and bought "Saltwater Fresh Sea Urchin" and frozen "Snow Crab Meat" from Ogawa Shoten. Next, we visited "Kani no Hokuyu" where they displayed many king crabs in a tank. We bought the following items for takeaway, all including tax: - Squid Sashimi with Shredded Ginger and Dipping Sauce: 648 yen - Salmon Roe Soy Sauce Pickled (100g): 1728 yen We had the frozen "Squid Sashimi" packed in a cooler bag as a souvenir for a friend. Despite having tried two types of salmon roe (Hokkaido and Alaskan) at the hotel breakfast buffet, we were so impressed with the taste that we wanted more. So, we had freshly pickled "Salmon Roe Soy Sauce Pickled" packed in a bottle right in front of us. Salmon roe soy sauce pickled is something we often buy at a supermarket near our home, but it's usually sold in tiny 20g packs for a high price. Compared to that, the price here was reasonable, but still quite expensive locally. When we got back home, we made a "Salmon Rice Bowl" along with a "Crab Rice Bowl" and "Crab Soup," and enjoyed a seafood feast for dinner. The salmon roe had a bright amber color and a delightful popping texture. Despite having eaten plenty of delicious seafood in Sapporo and Hakodate, we indulged in another seafood feast for dinner. We're worried we might get gout from overindulging! After wandering around the morning market, we realized we had eaten too much for breakfast to try the planned "Squid Sashimi" or "Grilled Sazae." The market was getting busier, so we skipped through it and headed to JR Hakodate Station. From there, we took a shuttle bus back to Hakodate Airport. Bon appétit!

Crab legs served as sashimi, with the rest grilled and the meat removed. Served with crab miso and fresh squid sashimi, accompanied by Sapporo Classic beer for breakfast. For dessert, morning sun melon.

I got a discounted hairy crab with some imperfections. I had three of its legs as sashimi and the rest grilled. It was my first time trying grilled hairy crab. The miso had a richer flavor due to less moisture compared to steamed ones, and it was very delicious.

When it comes to Hakodate, we enjoyed Uni Murakami the day before, and the next morning we were lured in by the staff at Hokuyu and bought hairy crab and buffun uni (in saltwater). By the way, the shop is right next to Uni Murakami Hakodate Main Store. There were live crabs swimming in tanks and boiled crabs available. We spent the whole day walking around outside, and since we wouldn't arrive in Tokyo until around 11 pm, we asked them to ship it. They recommended, "It's a waste of shipping costs, but with plenty of ice packs, you can carry it around all day." So we decided to take it with us. The crab was called "Kanigani," so our expectations were high. We splurged on Hokkaido buffun uni in saltwater. After all, it's a souvenir for my wife who stayed at home. They even gave us 3 shell-on scallops as a bonus, and gave us a discount on top of that. The crab meat was packed tightly, with a perfect aroma and sweetness. We easily devoured over 900g of crab between the two of us. The buffun uni was of top quality, matching if not surpassing Uni Murakami's uni. The Hakodate Morning Market had aggressive touts, and the crabs on display were confusing even for amateurs, so we were feeling discouraged. However, here the live crabs were lively, the boiled crabs were hefty and had a good color and shine, which put us at ease. They also mentioned they could ship it over the phone, so we plan to come back again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

When it comes to Hakodate, it's all about seafood! This time, I tried the Hakodate specialty of uni (sea urchin) and ikura (salmon roe) instead of squid! This seafood tour is an adventure where you eat more than seven meals a day, and I was already full when I visited this restaurant! I ordered a large portion of uni and a separate serving of ikura, and devoured them despite being full! Even though my stomach was full, I couldn't resist because I love these foods! After filling up, I settled down with some miso soup and paid the bill. I had the impression that customer service in tourist areas wasn't great, but the staff here were friendly and very nice.
