It is already mid-October, and I have only gone on an overnight motorcycle touring trip once this season. With the possibility of snowfall in mountain passes at this time of year, it could be the final season for bikers. The weather forecast indicated rain for the Japan Sea side and Kamikawa region, while Tokachi was initially sunny but later turned to rain. Despite thinking it might be impossible, the morning forecast showed clear skies in Chitose in the morning with rain in the afternoon. Tokachi was predicted to be cloudy in the afternoon and rainy in the evening. The next day's forecast for Urakawa and Chitose was sunny, so I decided to go and made a reservation at the inn at 8 am. I debated where to have lunch considering the departure time and route for the day, and chose this restaurant. The restaurant is located about 200m up a gravel road from the roadside entrance on a small hill. I have off-road experience and a Sportster, which can easily handle flat forest roads, so I had no issues, but riders on super sports or cruisers might find it challenging. The parking lot offered a view of the plains of Shimizu-cho and the distant Tokachi mountain range, making it a very scenic spot. The interior of the restaurant is quiet and calm, with a few tables near the windows that allow guests to enjoy the view while having their meal or drink. The food menu was more like light snacks than a full lunch menu, and I chose a Panini. The drink menu had American coffee at the top, but I opted for an espresso as the coffee seemed more casual. The espresso arrived first, with a frothy top indicating it was made using an espresso machine. Although it was a bit lacking in bitterness, it was enjoyable with added sugar. The Panini resembled a slightly oversized hot dog and looked delicious. Despite having a knife and fork, it seemed more appetizing to eat with hands, and biting into it revealed a satisfying texture with a mix of bread, vegetables, meat, and sauce. Thanks to the bread, it was quite filling, equivalent to a meal for a woman. The female staff, who had moved to Hokkaido because she loved it, engaged in conversation with me, as we shared the same sentiment. She also complimented the motorcycle gear I use, Max Fritz, saying it was chic and cool, which made me ecstatic (laughs).
