I decided to check out Makers Pier, right next to Legoland, as a casual visit ( °◡͐°)✧. Going out for dinner like this could be a hidden gem! The restaurants are laid out like an outlet mall, making window shopping exciting. I noticed there are quite a few meat shops.
1. Gochi's Beef, originating from Kyoto (also at Kitte Nagoya, and part of the same group as Kyoto Gyukatsu in Sakae/Fushimi and Nick Stock at Nagoya Station), had a line because it's close to the park's exit. Their display of meat blocks is impressive, but I didn’t have a good personal impression, so I skipped it.
2. Brooklynn Cafe, operated by GabuRi Chicken, which I have visited at the TV Tower and Kanayama locations, does have meat plates (though I haven't tried them). I only think of this place as a cafe.
3. Grill Minori was intriguing, and I hesitated, but when I saw the menu, I noticed that while the pork bowl and hamburger were reasonably priced, the beef was quite expensive, so I passed. Apparently, they specialize in branded beef like Matsusaka and Hida.
Besides the meat shops, there were also restaurants with all-you-can-eat bread and a nice seafood restaurant, but since I was aiming for pancakes after my meal, I ruled out the bread option. So, by process of elimination, I entered Amigos.
Amigos has its main store in Oodaka, Midori Ward, and is a specialty store for Australian beef, expanding to seven locations in the Tokai region, now opening this eighth branch in Makers Pier. They also sell barbecue spices, tools, and meat. I noticed they even offer a barbecue certification (there was an advertisement in-store)! Upon entering, I discovered they had a barbecue facility in the courtyard (not visible from outside). Plus, they had trendy American barbecue grills! I saw groups of people having a barbecue (I caught them while they were tidying up).
First, I decided my meat type and grams at the order counter. They had four types of beef, and the staff provided thorough explanations. If you like lean meat, go for the rump or chuck eye. If you prefer fatty cuts, the sirloin or ribeye is recommended. I had tried ribeye before at Aisteak in Tsuruma, and it was quite delicious. The staff mentioned the ribeye is softer than the sirloin and a popular choice in America, making it their top recommendation. They suggested ordering larger portions—200g, 300g, or 400g, as sharing a larger portion between two is more cost-effective.
-----〈Ordered Menu〉-----
⭐︎ Ribeye Steak 300g @ 3450 yen
⭐︎ Rice @ 200 yen x 2
Total: 1925 yen/person
They offered free large servings for rice, so I went for it. My companion said, "I'll just have a regular," but come on! ( ∙̆.̯∙̆) He’s a small-eater! Since we planned to go to a café afterward, we didn’t order any drinks or sides. Potatoes and onion rings were each 300 yen, and soft drinks were 200 yen, with some desserts available. Besides rice, you could choose buns, bread, hot dogs, or tacos, creating your burger which was a nice option!
There was a free raw vegetable bar for toppings with options like lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, black olives, cucumbers, and macaroni salad. The variety of spices was impressive, befitting a specialty store. If you choose buns, you can customize your burger with sauces, spices, and vegetables. There’s also a place called "Fabricks," where you can make your own burgers. Seriously, Makers Pier has a lot of meat shops.
Regarding sauces, I could change flavors with different condiments offered in small plastic containers, including grated daikon soy sauce, basil oil, wasabi, and salt and pepper. I settled at a counter by the window, enjoying the lively wooden décor and open atmosphere. When my food was ready, I picked it up based on the number tag.
Interestingly, the tableware was styled like camping gear. The salad bar items came in colorful plastic plates, while the rice was served in camping-style dishes. It was pretty fun! We split the 300g of meat, and even though we were hungry, we felt quite full. Though my companion thought the meat’s temperature was lukewarm, I found it acceptable. The Australian beef was quite tasty. At this price, it rivals steak family restaurants, so I think it's worth it. Personally, I became addicted to the mayo salad!
Having a stylish BBQ was a great experience—oh, and the self-service water had lemon slices in it, which was a nice touch! Overall, it was a fun place.
