PONTA/
I visited the "Yoruna Liki"豊田市駅前店, which ranked first in monthly access on Tabelog's Tokyo Shinjuku ranking for January 2024. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a spacious interior reflecting a contemporary casual vibe, with counter seats, tables, and even private rooms. At the time, the private rooms were lively with groups of customers, making it a comfortable space for both solo diners and groups.
I chose a table and browsed the menu, which featured a wide variety of drinks and dishes, with a focus on robata (charcoal grill) cuisine. What stood out was the "appetizer" offered at just 550 yen for an all-you-can-eat selection of authentic oden (a Japanese hot pot dish).
During my visit, I ordered the following:
- Hoppy Red Set - 605 yen
- Green Tea Highball - 572 yen
- Chivas Regal 12 Years - 718 yen
- Appetizer Oden - 550 yen
- Donko Shiitake - 638 yen
- Angel Shrimp Skewers - 528 yen
- Grilled Salmon with Ikura and Grated Daikon - 968 yen
(*All prices are inclusive of tax, and dinner is limited to a 90-minute last order within a 2-hour timeframe.)
First, I enjoyed the Hoppy Set and the oden appetizer. The Hoppy Set offered three varieties: white, black, and red, and I chose red. As I raised my glass for a toast, I savored its crisp, refreshing taste and rich flavor. The oden selection included ten types—egg, octopus leg, daikon, konnyaku, fish cake, fried tofu, and more—prepared with a light broth. The 550 yen price for unlimited authentic oden was remarkable, and each ingredient was perfectly simmered, offering a delightful texture.
Next, I savored the Donko Shiitake and Angel Shrimp Skewers, pairing them with a Green Tea Highball. The Donko Shiitake, garnished with green onions, was grilled with a unique blend of white broth and sake, while the Angel Shrimp Skewers were grilled whole, shell and all. The umami flavor of the shiitake, combined with the herbs and seasoning, was gratifying. The skewered shrimp offered a crunch from the shell and a juicy bite from the meat, making the dish utterly delicious. The Green Tea Highball had a vibrant green color, and its refreshing taste was a perfect complement to the two robata dishes.
Finally, I indulged in the Grilled Salmon with Ikura and Grated Daikon, accompanied by a water-iced Chivas Regal 12 Years. This dish featured grilled salmon topped with grated daikon, ikura (salmon roe), and green onions, showcasing a delightful presentation and the opportunity to enjoy both the rich salmon and the roe. The salmon was well-seasoned and juicy, while the combination of ikura, grated daikon, and green onion created an exquisite blend of flavors.
The Chivas Regal 12, mixed with water, provided a smooth and refreshing finish with the whisky's characteristic richness. Overall, the oden appetizer, the delicious robata dishes, and the perfectly paired drinks ensured a satisfying experience.
I had an amazing time at this restaurant and personally hope they will open a location in Nagoya, preferably close to my home. I highly recommend everyone to visit this place, enjoy a drink, and indulge in the oden and robata dishes!
