Today's destination was Yoshian. It is a bit far from the center of Hakodate, making it quite difficult to access. We took a taxi from the hotel to get there. Along the way, the taxi driver assured us that Yoshian was a great choice, raising our expectations. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the lively owner. His friendly demeanor, which we had also sensed over the phone, made us feel welcome. The restaurant has counter seats and tatami rooms, with the counter seats offering a view of the aquarium, which is a prime spot. The assorted sashimi platter we had pre-ordered was served promptly. It included tuna, tsubugai, hokkigai, saury, flounder, and botan shrimp. The tuna's red meat was delicious, with a melt-in-your-mouth freshness. The thinly sliced tsubugai was easy to eat, with a nice crunch. The saury might have needed a bit more fattiness. The live squid sashimi was the highlight of the day. The squid was skillfully prepared on the spot, with thin, beautifully cut pieces that showcased its freshness. It was sweet and had a pleasant crunch. The legs were still moving, adding to the experience. The liver, with its fresh bitterness, paired well with sake. We also had the squid legs tempura, which was a perfect match for beer. The crab sashimi was another highlight, incredibly sweet and transparent. The boiled crab had a different sweetness and a satisfying volume. The best part was the crab miso, a rich and flavorful delight. The fatty tuna cheek steak was incredibly luxurious, melting in the mouth with a rich, fatty flavor. The corn tempura was a luxurious dish featuring Hokkaido's sweet corn. It was crispy, perfectly fried, and had a great balance of sweetness and saltiness. The rare soy sauce-grilled eel was a unique dish that allowed us to savor the eel's flavor. It was lightly grilled, allowing the eel's deliciousness to shine through. Lastly, we had a salmon roe rice ball to finish off the meal. The only downside was the lack of salmon roe filling. The rice ball was plump and satisfying. Overall, Yoshian offers a wide variety of seafood dishes that are a must-try when in Hakodate. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Visited during a trip to Hakodate. Made a reservation with the chef's choice. The sashimi platter had a wide variety, especially the flounder and scallops were delicious. The tempura as the second dish was truly Hokkaido-style, with the corn tempura being exceptional! The yellowtail collar that came after was also very tasty, with tender meat. It was a really good restaurant!

Last time I came to Hakodate, many shops were closed due to COVID-19, so I finally got to go to Yoshi-an this time. The restaurant was almost full, and we were informed in advance that the food might take a while to be served, but the chef's personality was so great that waiting for the food was not a problem at all. The live squid was around 1400 yen and a great deal, and all the other dishes were also excellent! I will definitely go back again!

I had sushi for lunch, so I visited an izakaya for dinner. It seemed like a place where reservations were necessary, so I was glad I made one! Everything I ate was delicious, but the squid sashimi was especially good, as expected in Hakodate! The sake went down smoothly, and I ended up drinking a lot. I also loved the seafood chawanmushi, so I highly recommend it.

I visited an izakaya located just a bit outside of Goryokaku where the friendly chef prepared delicious dishes for us. It's no surprise that they have been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants, as the squid and sea urchin were both delicious. The chef, who ended up drinking too much sake, is very skilled at cooking but misses the mark with his jokes. When you visit Hakodate, be sure to check it out.

At the renowned restaurant Yoshian in Hakodate ♡(•᎑•), the head chef lived in Kyoto for 10 years and his personality is wonderful, with a lovely smile. Starting with Sapporo Lager beer, we enjoyed the amazing fresh sashimi platter with live hair crab, live abalone, live Botan shrimp, premium fatty tuna, medium fatty tuna, and live scallop. We also tried live spear squid with ginger soy sauce, and the fried legs were delicious. Boiled red king crab, simmered live oysters, and Hokkaido's Sapporo sake were all superb. It was the best dining experience!

I had a business trip to Hakodate and made a reservation right away! I visited with a companion. When I ordered sashimi at the time of booking, it came out immediately! It seems like they are doing business with a small number of people, so they said it might take some time, but the dishes were brought out at a perfect timing without any complaints. The taste was excellent, the portion size was good, and above all, the price was reasonable! I was very satisfied! Reservations are a must!

A shop located about 12 minutes from JR Goryokaku Station in Hakodate, Hokkaido. I made a reservation in advance before visiting. There are two entrances, but the one closer to the road is the main entrance, as the one further inside leads to a banquet hall. I started with a bottle of Akahoshi beer for 680 yen and a sashimi platter for 1320 yen. The sashimi, especially the turban shell and scallops, were excellent. There were also some premium items like fatty tuna at this price. After the beer, I ordered Miso Gi no Mai Junmai (from Yamagata, Haneta Sake Brewery). It is made with rice from Kikonai-cho, "Honoka 224," and brewed in Yamagata, with a refreshing taste of rice. It pairs well with sashimi. Next, I tried Goho Special Junmai (from Hakodate Sake Brewery). This sake is from a newly established brewery, with a fruity aroma and a clean, refreshing taste. It's really delicious. I also added Grilled Octopus Head for 660 yen and Fresh Red Snapper Tempura for 770 yen. The octopus head is grilled with cuts, offering a unique texture and rich flavor as you chew. The red snapper tempura is fresh, creamy, and melts in your mouth. Overall, I enjoyed a leisurely meal for about an hour. The friendly and helpful service from the chef and the hostess made it a pleasant dining experience. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from a friend. The dishes took a little longer to prepare as the husband is the one doing all the cooking, but they were all delicious and satisfying. The grilled hokke in particular was very tasty. Unfortunately, the recommended grilled squid was not available due to a shortage of squid, which was disappointing.

I arrived early for a business trip on a Sunday evening. I called ahead midweek on a whim. The head chef answered and said they could squeeze me in at the end of the counter. Lucky! I pre-ordered fresh squid and sashimi. When I arrived on the day, I took a train from Hakodate Station to one stop away, and then walked from Goryokaku Station to the restaurant just in time for my reservation. I was seated in the middle of four counter seats. The chef, who seemed to be Kawai Takuzo, was busy moving around. The fresh squid wasn't available that day, but they could make regular squid sashimi, so I ordered that. I started with a Sapporo Black Draft Beer (580 yen). As an appetizer, I was served two small dishes, one with simmered gelatin topped with tomato and basil. The squid sashimi arrived, although the pieces were small. It tasted good with ginger and light soy sauce. Meanwhile, they were handling live squid right in front of me. I understood that my order was late and they didn't have enough for me. I ordered more dishes: Grilled Octopus (660 yen), Fresh Tachipon (770 yen), and Boiled Shrimp (1,000 yen). The sashimi platter arrived with scallops, sea snails, tuna, shrimp, herring, and alfonsino. They were all unusually cold, and the shrimp had a strong smell. There was a clear gap between the customer's orders and the cooking speed. I noticed there was a separate room called "Ura" besides the main dining area. I ordered a bottle of Tan sake Special Junmai (980 yen), which was smooth and flavorful. The Grilled Octopus arrived 33 minutes later, and it was good. I ordered Lemon Sour (480 yen) and another sake, Midorikawa, which was recommended as a replacement for the sold-out Yuki No Bosha. The Fresh Tachipon arrived 15 minutes after the octopus, and it was also delicious. The Boiled Shrimp came 30 minutes after the Tachipon. It was decent as well. I asked for the bill and a taxi. I paid by card and didn't receive a receipt. I was informed that I had left my phone behind, so I had to go back to retrieve it. The total bill was 9,020 yen. How much would it have been if I had eaten crab and fresh squid? Overall, the experience left me feeling a bit dissatisfied.

Yoshian Hokkaido Hakodate City Kameda-cho. Live fish, seafood dishes, seasonal, and seasonal dishes at "Yoshian". As the name suggests, you can enjoy fresh and delicious local seafood as the main dish, as well as a wide range of seasonal dishes using seasonal ingredients. Established in 2002, this year marks its 20th anniversary. The nearest station is JR Goryokaku Station, as Hakodate Station is quite far, it is recommended to take a taxi. Just say "Yoshian, please." and the taxi driver will know where to go. It is a well-known local restaurant. Inside the restaurant, there is a live squid swimming in a tank. ✔️Live squid (around 1,980 yen) ✔️Assorted shrimp ✔️Fresh Pacific saury sashimi (880 yen) ✔️Fried oysters (770 yen) ✔️Butter-grilled asparagus (440 yen) ✔️Grilled eggplant ✔️Sujiko rice balls (550 yen/2 pieces) The seafood and seasonal vegetables are all delicious with the quality of Hakodate. What caught my attention was the small amount of sujiko in the sujiko rice balls (laughs). The customers range from local companies to small families. There has been an increase in tourists, but usually, there are overwhelmingly many local regular customers. The owner is from Hakodate's "Ikasei". Local people seem to order a lot of live squid, similar to how people in Osaka order okonomiyaki. The atmosphere is very homely, with children being surprised and delighted to see the live squid moving on the plate. The style of removing shoes before entering makes it even more welcoming. The friendly and humble owner, as well as the other staff, create a comfortable atmosphere, making it easy to understand why it has been loved by locals for a long time. When making a reservation, they will inform you that if there are group reservations or many reservations, the food may take quite some time to be served. Probably because the owner handles the cutting area in front of the counter alone, while another person handles the grilling and frying areas in the back. I initially thought there were only 6 seats at the counter and 4 tables, but there is also a separate building in the back, so it must be tough to manage with just two people. They will inform you clearly about the wait time, but if you plan to order a la carte, it may take a while, so it's better to visit with a relaxed mind and extra time. If you don't mind the wait, you can enjoy delicious food in a lovely atmosphere and have a great night in Hakodate. When in Hakodate, this restaurant is definitely worth considering. Thank you for the delicious meal (^ω^)y// Yoshian Hakodate.

I made a reservation about a month ago for a Saturday visit. I ordered a sashimi platter when making the reservation. A wonderful sashimi platter was served. It had three types of tuna: akami, chutoro, and otoro. I was lucky to have some sea urchin as well. The tempura at this restaurant is sweet and delicious. I would love to try it again when they have local ingredients. The quality of the food is above standard, but whether you can enjoy a leisurely meal may depend on the date and time. Thank you for the meal!

This is a cozy izakaya run by a local couple in the town. When I took a taxi from the hotel and mentioned the name of the restaurant, the driver knew where to go. You have to take off your shoes before entering, and there are both counter seats and tatami rooms with space under the tables to stretch your legs. We ordered various dishes from Hokkaido, and they were delicious and affordable. I wish there was one like this nearby.

My friend always goes to Hakodate and visits a restaurant at night, so I joined in for the third time! The chef always starts with sashimi, then serves grilled fish, chawanmushi, one dish, tempura, rice dish, and dessert as a set. The chef's bright personality always cheers me up!

I wanted to go to a local restaurant where the locals go, so I did some research and found a great place. Yoshian is located a bit away from the bustling dining areas in Hakodate, but it is definitely worth the visit. When I told the taxi driver the address, he set the navigation, but when I mentioned Yoshian, he said he didn't need it. This made me even more excited, as it seems like a place known to the locals. The menu is extensive, with the must-try being the fresh squid. You can choose between grilled or tempura squid legs. The sashimi platter includes fatty tuna and a variety of other types of fish, all at a surprisingly reasonable price. The delicious food, the chef's hospitality, and the great value make this restaurant the best!

The appetizers were delicious, especially the bamboo shoot kudzu tofu on the right side. I switched to Hakodate wine (which was not great) and had live button shrimp, live squid, and swordtip squid. The button shrimp was sweet, the miso was rich, and the swordtip squid had a good texture that paired well with ginger soy sauce. I switched to sake and had butter salted cod roe on top of potatoes (I don't like cod roe). I also enjoyed the freshly boiled hairy crab that I had requested when making the reservation. I ate it as is, without any additional seasoning. The homemade sesame tofu, refreshing grilled eel with white soy sauce, and tempura with monkfish liver and garlic sprouts were also delicious. Lastly, I had tempura with the squid tentacles from earlier, along with garlic sprouts and cod roe. The unique texture of the squid with its innards included in the tempura was interesting. I was full and satisfied! Thank you for the meal.

Good evening! I made a reservation at a restaurant from Goryokaku Park and walked there, getting lost in a blizzard and finally arriving shivering. Along the way, I got lost and apologized for being a little late to the restaurant staff, who kindly and gently guided me and even recommended taking a taxi from the station during a snowstorm. When I arrived, the snow stopped. Yoshian. I found this restaurant by reading various travel blogs about Hakodate before coming. The area didn't have many eateries lined up like in the Bay Area or near the station, so it felt isolated. The locals seem to frequent this seafood izakaya, so I decided to go here. Upon entering the restaurant, it was quite warm, with a counter of about 5-6 seats and 4 table seats. I was happy to take off my shoes! We sat at the counter, where there was a round tank in front of us. The cheerful master and female staff, along with 3 male staff in the back, were serving us. I started with a shochu highball as I wasn't in the mood for beer that day. The homemade sesame tofu and fish were delicious. The appetizers are usually a good indicator of the meal's quality. I ordered various items from the menu, such as live squid, hairy crab, and sea urchin, and added more based on our appetite. The sea urchin was delicious, even though it wasn't quite to my taste. The hairy crab sashimi was something I really wanted to eat, and it was delightful. The sea urchin was a bit different from what I'm used to, but it was tasty. I couldn't stop eating the steamed hairy crab with its rich miso flavor. The live squid sashimi was fresh and delicious. The restaurant served us freshly prepared squid sashimi from the tank in front of us. Unfortunately, the squid was small that day. The tempura made from the squid's legs was a bit soggy. The octopus was split between the two of us. We both love oily fish, so we hesitated to try the homemade kizushi, but the staff offered to serve us a small portion. The sea grapes were just right, and the sea urchin was a unique experience. The oysters were perfect with a drink. The shellfish was crunchy and delicious, and the sea squirt was a new and interesting taste. The whole experience was enjoyable, and we even ended up finishing a bottle of shochu. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and it was a great dining experience in Hakodate.

The workplace reputation is good and visited. The menu is centered around seafood. Everything is fresh and delicious. The sashimi is fresh and just the right size. The fried oysters have a unique smell, but even people who are not fond of it can eat it. The cod is not only my favorite fish, but it is also extremely delicious. The biggest charm is the head chef. His friendliness and that smile are very soothing. I want to come back to this restaurant again.

This is a popular restaurant located along Route 5 that only locals know about. It is always bustling with customers no matter when you visit. Their must-try dish is the fresh squid, known for its crunchy texture and sweet flavor when chewed. Not only the sashimi, but also the grilled dishes are delicious, and you can't go wrong with anything you order. If you visit Hakodate, this is a place you definitely want to go to.

My favorite restaurant is "Yoshian". Due to certain circumstances, I visited Hakodate four times this spring to early summer, and on the last night of my last stay in Hakodate, I absolutely wanted to visit this restaurant. I had heard that it was popular locally, but I decided to go without making a reservation, thinking that it would be fine to sit at the counter alone. However, when I arrived, I was told that they couldn't serve any dishes other than the appetizer because there was a group of customers, and it would take over an hour. I insisted that I was willing to wait for about an hour. The staff asked if I was okay with just drinks and appetizers, and I said it was fine. I was allowed to enter the restaurant quite forcefully. I'm sorry. I was desperate because this was my last chance. I was seated at the counter and enjoyed the appetizer while sipping on a lemon sour. I was captivated by the efficient movements of the head chef inside the counter, who was preparing dishes for the group of customers. Within 30 minutes, the head chef asked if he could serve the live squid that the group was having. He showed me a transparent squid from the tank in front of me. It was still moving on the plate. I had never tasted such delicious squid before. It was my first time trying live squid, and it was so delicious! The texture was chewy, and the flavor spread in my mouth as I chewed. It was amazing. The head chef then asked if he could serve sashimi as well, and I left it all up to him. I had flounder, button shrimp, whelk, herring, and tuna. It was so fresh that I felt like I wouldn't be able to eat sashimi in Tokyo anymore. The head chef then served grilled octopus. It was my first time trying it, and it was light but had a nice oily texture. I forgot to take a picture because I was so eager to eat it. My daughter recommended this restaurant to me, saying it was her favorite among all the restaurants she had been to. I told the head chef this, and he modestly said that it was probably because it was a trip. The delicious food, along with the warm character of the head chef, made this place the best. I left it to the chef to prepare the same dishes as the group, and he served them one by one. The tempura baby corn was incredibly sweet, and the potato was fluffy and delicious. The head chef fried the tentacles of the live squid. I was thrilled to finally try the Hokkaido squid tentacles. The boiled asparagus was thick and delicious even without any seasoning. The head chef, who was slightly younger than me, had worked at "Ika Kiyoshi" for seven years during my previous stay in Hakodate. He recommended the view from the Kijihiki Plateau Observatory at the Kijihiki Highland in Shichinohe Town. He also mentioned the Melody Road, so I definitely want to visit.

The restaurant is located a little away from the town. There is another curtain visible at the back of the shop, which seems to be a private room, and if you choose a course, you will be taken to the back store. The appetizer was homemade whale bacon, so I was confident that this place would be great. Furthermore, the abundant sea urchin and seaweed with free-flowing soy sauce was absolutely amazing. The sashimi platter had a variety of options, each portion neatly arranged on a large plate, making it both luxurious and easy to eat. The snow crab was a bit small but had a rich flavor, and it even came with crab miso. The live squid was a long-awaited treat, and the crab sashimi was a delightful surprise. The grilled and deep-fried squid legs were deliciously prepared. The creative dishes like flounder with miso sauce and simmered butterbur were a nice touch and to my liking. The tempura even had thick asparagus. It was a delightful meal filled with seasonal ingredients. The rice ball had salmon roe, and the dessert was red-fleshed melon. I thoroughly enjoyed the taste of Hokkaido with this luxurious meal. I had communicated my budget and requested specific ingredients, and the restaurant almost completely fulfilled my requests, leaving me very satisfied. This place is definitely worth a visit. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
